Well, it took over 30 years, but it's finally here, and it was definitely worth waiting for. It opened in January 2007, providing Formby with its first ever public pool. It's a futuristic looking building, set on a large plot of land, in the centre of town, with plenty of parking. Inside, there's a gym, a café and two pool areas. One pool is warm and shallow, which was perfect for our two little non-swimmers, while the main pool is deeper, 25m in length and five lanes wide, a proper training pool. The changing room system was a little confusing at first enter the cubicle from one side, exit the other side, with lockers near the pool, but that's a minor point. There are no slides or other distractions, which may disappoint some, but it gave the pools a calmer, less frantic feel, which was definitely a plus-point for us. Afterwards, we sampled the delicious cake and coffee at the café. We are looking forward to our next visit. read more
