No big deal, mistakes happen, so we came back an hour later as requested. Unfortunately, when we returned, only one of us was serviced. Someone else had walked in, and the barber who was supposed to take care of us had either double-booked the appointment or decided to take the walk-in first. I was asked if I would be okay with him cutting that person's hair before mine, and I respectfully said no. My concern was the amount of time involved. The other person's haircut would take approximately 30-40 minutes, followed by another 30-40 minutes for mine, on top of the hour we had already lost because of the initial scheduling issue. That would have turned what should have been a normal appointment into roughly a two-hour visit. I understand that mistakes happen, and I don't expect everything to go perfectly. However, my time is valuable, and I don't think it's reasonable for a customer who made an appointment to have to absorb the consequences of a double booking. I ultimately chose not to wait any longer. I hope this can be taken as constructive feedback because better communication and scheduling would have made a big difference.

The owner of the shop noticed I was displeased, came over and asked what was going on. I explained to him that I asked for one thing and was getting something completely different, and it just kept getting worse! I sympathize with honest mistake; nobody is perfect after all. I know there's many personal factors or stressors that can negatively affect performance at work, or sometimes we just have bad/off days, so I tried to be understanding and chill till the end. I was definitely expecting at least some kind of discount or something, ANYTHING REALLY. But no; at the end, this barber had the audacity to charge me full price for a terrible and erroneous service. No real acknowledgement of his errors or apology to me for my dissatisfaction - and trust when I say they were well aware of how I felt about my haircut. But Kylie being the hair extraordinaire that she is, got me headed down the right path. (Although, I don't recommend this for everyone. First off, it's amazing that there is a parking lot at all in this neighborhood. Probably 90%+ of the businesses in the area you just park on the street. With that said, it obviously fills up. So just be ready for that. The shop itself is in the back of Estes clothing store. So if you have never been before, just walk towards the back and you will see it. Try not to be distracted by the awesome selection of ties in the shop! The environment is very classy and laid back. Two leather massage chairs to use while you wait (if you even need to wait). A fireplace, a TV, a great selection of magazines to read. You will most likely be offered something to drink. Kylie almost always has wine and other yummy options. Another blessing and curse: This is a very dog friendly barber shop. So if you love dogs (like I do) then you will probably be in dog heaven during many trips to Kylie's. If you are allergic to dogs, then I recommend contacting Kylie first or something. But all of Portland is very dog friendly. So you are probably used to these types of things if dogs make you go ACHOO! Kylie's cutting style varies. My hair is very short. I have seen her cut dudes hair that is longer and super styled. And she has also cut my wife's hair many times. So she obviously knows what she is doing in many different situations. The pricing is just right. $20-$40 depending on shampoo and scalp massaging. Considering this is a one woman show, I think that is pretty decent. This is not an impersonal, factory line, non-relaxing hair cut like chains. You can check out her schedule and make appointments online using Schedulicity. This is SOOO helpful in planning when to go. My wife and I live out in the burbs and we like to know in advance when we should go especially if we want our hair done before a specific date. One last note based on my wife's input: As I mentioned, I've been going to Kylie for a while. When I first started dating my wife, there was for sure this sense of, "This girl cuts your hair and massages your scalp? Whoa, she is gorgeous. I'm not sure about that." So... dear girl friends and wives: Kylie is not someone to worry about. In fact, you should probably just become friends with her. Because she is awesome and hilarious. And now-a-days, my wife has her hair cut by Kylie more than I do!
