I originally contacted New York City Nutrition because my digestion had become unpredictable. I was…read moredealing with bloating, heartburn, occasional diarrhea, and the uncomfortable feeling that certain foods were affecting me even though I could not identify a clear pattern. I had already tried making random changes on my own, but I was mostly reacting to symptoms rather than understanding what might be contributing to them. What impressed me most was that the gut health consultation did not feel like a generic appointment where someone simply tells you to stop eating gluten, dairy, sugar, and everything else you enjoy. My dietitian took the time to listen to my history, my normal eating habits, the types of packaged foods I bought, and the symptoms I noticed after certain meals. I felt heard rather than judged. The explanations were also practical and easy to understand. Instead of overwhelming me with medical language, she helped me look at the relationship between ingredients, portions, eating patterns, and digestive symptoms. The recommendations were broken into manageable habits that I could actually follow in normal life. I did not feel as though I had been handed a restrictive diet that would be impossible to maintain while working, traveling, eating out, or spending time with other people. One of the biggest lessons for me involved protein bars and foods marketed as "zero sugar." I used to see zero sugar on the front of a package and automatically assume it was the healthier choice. I never stopped to ask how something could taste extremely sweet while supposedly containing no sugar. My dietitian encouraged me to turn the package around and read the complete ingredient list, not only the marketing claims on the front. I learned that many sweet zero-sugar snacks rely on sugar alcohols or intense sweeteners. These ingredients are not automatically harmful to everyone, but certain sugar alcohols can be difficult for some people to digest and may contribute to bloating, gas, cramping, or loose stools. In my own case, some of the bars I was eating appeared to make my heartburn and diarrhea worse. That conversation completely changed how I shop. I now look at the source of the sweetness, the length of the ingredient list, the amount of fiber, and the balance between protein, carbohydrates, and fat. I also understand that "zero sugar" and "zero added sugar" are not the same thing. A food can contain naturally occurring sugar from fruit without having refined sugar or sweeteners added to it. One example of how I now apply those principles is PROTABAR. It was recommended to me and it's a great example of a protein snack which label reflects many of the things I was taught to look for. It contains four recognizable ingredients: dates, egg whites, hazelnuts, and cocoa. One 50-gram bar has 210 calories, 15 grams of protein, 24 grams of carbohydrates, 5 grams of fiber, and 9 grams of fat. It contains 13 grams of total sugar from its ingredients, primarily the dates, but zero grams of added sugar. For me, that is a much more honest and balanced approach than making a bar extremely sweet with sugar alcohols just so the package can advertise zero sugar. The egg whites provide protein, the dates provide carbohydrates and natural sweetness, the hazelnuts provide fat and texture, and the bar contains enough fiber to make it feel like a substantial snack. Of course, no single snack is automatically right for every person or every digestive condition, but it is one of the packaged options that fits the label-reading rules I now follow. Since applying the simple habits I learned here, my gut has gradually been stabilizing. I pay more attention to how I eat, not only what I eat. I track patterns instead of panicking after one uncomfortable meal, and I make more informed choices when comparing packaged foods. I also feel less anxious around food because I am no longer dividing everything into "good" and "bad" based on a claim printed on the front of a package. The process does require patience. Digestive issues do not necessarily disappear after one appointment or one dietary change. However, I appreciated that the approach was realistic, personalized, and focused on sustainable habits rather than quick promises. I left with a clearer understanding of my own body and practical tools I can continue using. For anyone who feels confused by bloating, irregular digestion, food labels, or conflicting nutrition advice, New York City Nutrition is worth considering. The experience helped me move away from marketing claims and toward simpler, more thoughtful food choices. That education has been just as valuable to me as the improvement in my symptoms.

I have been with Lorraine for almost a month now and can safely say that she has completely changed my life and point of view on food. She provides such a comfortable and safe environment to talk about not just food, but my cognitive and mental outlook on my life. Upon my consultation, she made sure to note all aspects of my health and past eating habits, and created a delicious customized meal plan based on my preferences, as I am primarily plant based. These plans also integrate meal prep into them, which has reduced my snacking tendencies, as I can just grab my prepped meals from the fridge. I have fallen in love with cooking at home again and get excited about each meal as they are all so diverse and completely satiate me. It's crazy how quickly my taste preferences have changed and crave her recipes. The 3-month plan I opted for includes weekly check-ins, where Lorraine doesn't mention calories or weight every time, but more of how I am feeling mentally based on the foods I am eating. She is also sure to educate me on certain foods to avoid or gravitate towards which can positively affect my lifestyle. I look forward to seeing her each week because she celebrates every small victory with me. I could not recommend anyone else- thank you Lorraine!!!

However, for my particular needs, it didn't feel as if I got enough out of the appointment. My weight has been very steady for the past couple years, which I suppose is a good thing, but I've been trying to lose weight by doing consistent workouts, nixing coffee, takeout, trying to incorporate more veggies into my diet. I definitely have issues with soda and snacking (cookies/chips), but overall I wanted to see if I could have a plan designed for me to help me accelerate weight loss, preferably 1-2 lbs a week. Her approach is not about diet restriction/calorie counting, but more about wholesome clean/natural eating, balanced meals. It's a great approach and I applaud that. I just know my biggest issues are calories. I eat great foods -- spinach, broccoli, avocados, Greek yogurt, blueberries, almonds, peanut butter, apples, peppers/mushrooms -- but portion and calories, even with healthy things, can cause weight gain, too. I wanted a strict diet/calorie plan that would ensure I could drop weight but not feel deprived. I may have been better off using a calorie counting app, but figured a professional could maybe offer more? I think she is good for someone who may have zero knowledge of nutrition, and have no idea where to begin when it comes to snacks or meals. Her snack/diet suggestions were things I was already incorporating into my diet, and it felt a little repetitive. I was seen more or less on time, my appointment at 1PM, and walking up to her office by 1:10. It's up in a loft inside a pilates studio, so if people have any physical issues with walking, I would not recommend this narrow winding stair case. Very cozy and cute looking space once you're inside. Simple looking, with a desk for her work, some chairs, and further inside seems to be a cute living or recreational space. Also, very hot inside. Considering we were on the very top, and it was still the height of summer, it felt unbearably stuffy and uncomfortable. No air conditioning, but not even a fan. I sat there, trying to think clearly while feeling sweaty and gross. By the time I left, I realized I had huge sweat stains! Great person to slowly guide you into healthy eating. She offered good suggestions, and introduced me to the Plate Method.

They have been open for 10 years the physicians are very experienced. I picked the whole body lymph node drainage which starts with massage the lymph node behind the ear to the neck. And then move to focus on the lymph node on the neck, then move onto armpit(if you are ticklish maybe choose the only neck option) at the meantime they placed a herbal pot on the belly. After finish the front there's a little massage on the back with moving cupping method. After the treatment I felt rejuvenated and feel very good. Not to mention this place is very affordable, there are treatment packages you can purchase as well: They didn't do any upsell during the treatment, I'm sure they are very confident of their service. It's located inside a building that seems to have other businesses residing there. You need to ring the bell for them to let you in. After taking the elevator (or the stairs), and step out, it will be to your left. Upon entering, I was offered hand sanitizer and changed into a pair slippers. After confirming what I booked my appointment for, which was for a Meridian Facial, I was taken into a room where I changed my top into a towel-like cover up. Just from cleansing my face, I was shown just how much dead skin and dirt came out out my face. I honestly thought I was doing a good job with washing and cleansing my face at home but I guess not! The staff also used a Gua Sha to help increase circulation and drain the lymph nodes on my face, and a lot of time was spent on massaging my face. After, they put a mesh-like gauze on my face and then put a moisturizing facial pack on top of it. I had to wait about 10 or 15 minutes until it solidified enough. Once the staff peeled it off my face, my skin felt super smooth. At the end of the facial, there was also a head/scalp massage. One advice regarding the scalp massage would be to not time it on a day of an important event. Since it distributes the oils on your scalp, you probably know what I'm getting at. The whole experience was positive and relaxing. I did glance at the service menu that they offered and they seem to have a broad range of different things you can try (ie: facials, lymphatic drainage, herbal weight loss treatments, body treatments, and more). With the location being so convenient and the various options you have to choose from, I think it's worth a visit!

I had tried a wide range of workouts (and enjoyed them), and had a personal trainer for a short stint. While all of that was helpful, what really mattered in the end was better nutrition.
