This place is adorable! There is ample parking, tons of outdoor or indoor seating, and even a little kids play area. The bartenders were very kind, knowledgeable, and helpful in picking our flights and informing us about discounts when coming back to get glasses of our favorites. The wines I tried were all pretty tasty, offering a good selection of both classic wines but also some sweeter or novelty wines to try like the slushy rosé. Would recommend to a friend! read more

This winery is now added to my Kentucky list of wineries that I will frequently visit on our travels through this area. I just had the best tasting. The lady that poured for me was so friendly and informative. She made my wine tasting experience truly lovely. You get 6 tastings for $10 so I tried the 5 dry red wines and the semi sweet aged in a Four Roses bourbon barrel. The semi sweet was too sweet for my taste but I bought a bottle to share with my sweet loving wine friends. I really liked all the dry red wines here. My favorite was the Cabernet Sauvignon so I purchased that along with the dessert chocolate infused wine that I will try later. There are many wineries to choose from for wine lovers. We dropped in for a quick tasting. Lots of fruit forward wine like most wineries in the Midwest. Make sure you try their port, it was a little fruity as well but had a nice tawny flavor. I am not a wine drinker so I was out of my element when I was at Forest Edge Winery. I did not have a bad experience but nothing really stood out to me. A friend and I decided to have a day out at the last minute and wine hopping unintentionally became the main thing we did. It is located by The Jim Beam Distillery so it is not hard to miss. The tasting were around $5 dollars for 6 wines. None of the wines really stuck out to me where I had to buy a bottle. A small perk was they gave you Goldfish while sampling the wine. It is a nice location and I did enjoy my time here but I probably would try other wineries before making the drive back. read more

On Derby Day, a sizeable group of us from Louisville did a Run for the Rose before the big race. We got all dolled up in dresses & fascinators to visit two wineries close by. We started at Forest Edge. I love Bernheim Forest and my family regularly hikes there, so I'd seen signs for this quaint spot down the road. I was excited to stop in and try their products. The space is cute with a cottage in the forest vibe. There were about 14 or 16 of us and we all received great service from n what I witnessed. We bellied up to the large tasting bar to sample the wines but the tasting room is spacious. You get six, small tastes (looked like 1 oz) for $6. After tasting, many of us got glasses of our favorite wine or wine slushy. I thoroughly enjoyed our stop here and will drop in again with friends or family next time I'm in Clermont! read more

What a cute, charming little winery just South of Louisville. A friend and I were winery-hopping and this was the next closest one to where we were. It's right off the highway, so nothing you have to go too deep in the sticks to reach. It's also really cute! On the inside and outside it looks like a little house. I believe it was $5 for a 6 wine tasting, if I remember correctly. The staff were friendly and the wines were all great. They have a really nice variety, from dry to sweet. While they did have plenty of tables to enjoy wine at, my one fuss is that you have to stand at the bar for the tasting - there are no stools. Because of this I felt like I wasn't able to relax as much with it and we drank them each rather quickly. They did give us Goldfish crackers to snack on though, between each wine. This place seems like a nice hangout if you decide to buy a glass or bottle. They have a few different rooms you can walk through, checker boards and a lot of neat stuff to look at. They also have a really cute playroom for kids if you bring some with you. This is another great one that is worth a shot! read more

This is a really nice winery that is located in Claremont/Shepherdsville right across the street from Bernheim Forest. And I'm not a big wine guy to be honest you know I drink more beer or bourbon or something like that my wife really enjoys wine and we have gone here a few times. This Winery is just off I-65 and near Jim Beam Distillery. You can see the sign just off the road so it isn't very hard to find and parking lot is kinda small. Of course, being a Tuesday the place wasn't very busy. The interior is very clean and it looks and feels like a home. I got rather quick service and was told I could get 6 tastings for $5. So that's what I went with. I had a few favorites but I particularly liked the one that tasted like Strawberry preserve. Before leaving I did get a program of other wineries in Kentucky after asking a couple from Cincinnati what good wineries were up there after finding out they were from Cinci. I only got to keep the glass after paying close to $5 for it, that's ok. I wish I would have caught the guys name that hosted the tasting. He was a great host. They also have Wine slushees in Sangria and Peach Bellini. read more

My sisters and nieces love going here together for their tasty wines and especially for their "Wine Down Sundays"! They have live music in the Barrel Room and you can bring your own snacks. We always have a good time filled with good wine, snacks, music, and lots of laughs! I like the dry wines, and my favorite is the Chardonnay. I did try the Riesling, which is a semi-sweet, and it was good too. If you like sweet wines, then my sister said that their Moscato is one of the best. We found this Winery as we were driving to the Giants. We went to the winery after we saw the giants. Parking was easy, and it wasn't packed, which was good for us. The tasting was for 6 wines for 5 dollars. We were treated by a very cute and adorable cat and felt like we were at home. We were given a list of wines and offered suggestions based on the type of wines we drink and the unique wines. This made the process very easy. We enjoyed most if not all wines we selected. Everyone wore masks, and they had plexiglass between guests that were served at the bar. We enjoyed ourselves very much and ended up getting a couple or five bottles, lol. read more

What a delightful little Kentucky winery! I traveled to Forest Edge last weekend to celebrate my mother-in-law's birthday, and we were met with hospitality and, most of all, delicious wine. We opted to do the tasting, which features six samples of your choice for $5. With 21 wines total, the five of us were able to try each of the available wines on the menu. I chose the dry Chardonnay, as well as the semi-sweet Zoey Rose, Moscato, sweeter Bluegrass Blend, ice-style Love Spell and Toasted Tawny, which is barrel aged. Of these, Love Spell and Toasted Tawny were my faves. I haven't seen tawny ports at other Kentucky wineries, so this was a fun find. Also, we noticed that Forest Edge makes several great dry wines, a feat in Kentucky. My favorite of the day, though, was the Ridge Runner Red. I'm happy that my husband chose this as one of his tastings (and that I snuck a sip) or else I would have missed it. This wine features the Summer Daze sweet red wine aged for 12 months in bourbon barrels. The slight taste of bourbon from the barrels perfectly cuts down on the sweetness. I ended up buying a bottle to bring home with me. And my only complaint is that I HATE the hillbilly on the wine's label. I get that the Ridge Runner is inspired by Red McCoy, a legendary bootlegger, but you can reflect this without using the stereotypical image of a shoeless, bearded mountain man in overalls holding a bottle of moonshine. There's enough terrible stereotypes about Kentucky -- why add to them? Back to the positives: We loved the lady who served as our clerk for our tasting. She answered our questions, offered to top off a tasting glass with a different wine to show how well two wines can be blended and let us try some of the cheese spread before buying it. Forest Edge offers discounts for military, which was nice to see. And you can walk through to see a large room stacked with bourbon barrels -- including some from next door neighbor Jim Beam -- which I assume are filled with delicious wine. Forest Edge provides a fun mini-trip from Louisville, a wine-filled getaway. read more

Stumbled upon this winery during our visit to Bernheim Arboretum. Very pleased with our visit here! There was some outside seating, as well as seating in the main tasting room and the barrel room (which had a huge TV). The bar where we did the tastings had plexiglass (?) partitions which allowed parties of 2 to do a tasting. The cost for a tasting of 6 of their wines was $5. A wonderful selection of flavors for everyone. I enjoyed their strawberry wine and the moscato! They also had rotating slushie flavors which my husband and I enjoyed a glass of at the end of our visit. Staff was super friendly and knowledgeable. We were told they do seasonal flavors like pumpkin pie (probably later in November) and apple cranberry wine for Christmas time and you can call ahead to check if those are available. This is one of, my favorite KY wineries. Actually, it may be my favorite. I have been a few times. It has greatly improved each time, and it was good the first time. The staff is friendly and helpful and make you feel like they are happy you are there and want to share their wine, with you. There are many excellent wines, to try. They have grown a lot since my first visit. So many more wines, to try. So, if you have been before, it is try to go back. The last time we were there, they had vendors set up, so you could make purchase, for the holidays. They also had live music. It was such a fun, relaxing time, enjoying good wine. This is the second 5 star rating I've given out this week. We discovered it quite by accident after we missed the turn to Bernheim Forrest. A truly beautiful winery and tasting room. Great artwork and display of wine-related paraphernalia. We bought a bottle of chardonnay and planned to have a single glass and jet back to Middletown. Yeah...we downed the whole bottle. Their wines are great and moderately priced. They frequently have entertainment on weekends; although its a poke for us form Middletown. Plan on visiting the Berheim Forrest (BTW totally awesome) and then chill at this winery for awhile. A great laid back day and super way to unwind. read more

My fiancé and I probably tried about 10 between the 2 of us and only really enjoyed the semi-sweet Riesling called Rendezvous, which we really did like. We came in with a group of seven on Derby day. They have a Groupon for tastings for 6. You get to select 6 wines to sample and you get to keep your glass after the tasting. This is a more traditional winery, with grape wines and dry options (a lot of Kentucky wineries I have visited have been primarily sweet fruit wines, which I still love). The woman helping us with our tasting was very nice and friendly. She answered questions we had about the wines....though we didn't have many. We really just wanted to drink some good wine and enjoy the day. So...goal achieved. It's a little thing, but I liked the Goldfish crackers as a snacky palate cleanser. The tasting room was nice, with games to play (I got my butt kicked in Connect Four...) and they have a patio out back where you can enjoy a class of wine. What a nice stop this was. Day 2 of vacation and all heck broke loose at work Bummer. Stumbling across this charming winery was a stroke of pure genius. Thanks to the hubster- who simply doesn't believe in travel stops-who knew how stressed I was! Unique tasting offering 7 samples to taste for $5. I mean seriously-you can't beat that with a stick I prefer moscato and even sweeter for my wine. This winery had some delicious varieties making it tough to choose. I managed however....a couple of very unique dessert wines also claimed my palate. I ended up buying several bottles for us including a chocolate Carmel finish dessert wine and a Merlot for my bestie! The hostess was charming and had been there for years.
