You get what you pay for. I spent $25,000 dollars of work restoring a barn find car. And agreed to everything they recommended needed attention. Upon picking up the car. The brake caliper failed a day later and had to be towed back. Expectedly I was angry, flukes happen and I get it but the failure happened on a part that is responsible to my safety. Even though I lost my temper at Dalton, he didn't yell back rather kept his composure and said he would prioritize my issue. Later that day Ricky the manager from Foreign Exchange gave me a call back apologized and accepted responsibility for the parts failure at no charge to me. THIS!!! Is what I look for in a mechanic! Everyone makes mistakes but not everyone stands behind their work and makes sure that you have a good customer experience getting things right. I will continue to do business with Foreign Exchange because they prioritize professionalism, believe in the quality of their work and when things go awry they warranty their work instead of putting the onus back on you. read more

They did however absolutely go completely above and beyond giving me recommendations on who to contact that might be able to help. These guys are fantastic. My wife found them when she researched Audi mechanics after a terrible experience at White-Allen. I am always suspicious of finding a mechanic through anything else but friends. I am not a car guy so I am being honest when I say that I don't always know what half the stuff they talk about is. I just want the car to run well and stop when needed. These guys sat down with me and walked through what my options were and candidly said there was work that I thought needed to be done that could wait 30,000-40,000 miles. I will bring both my cars here for everything that needs to be done. The place looked incredibly well organized and the shop was spotless. I highly recommend stopping in to see for yourself. I had an incredibly good experience with them for a 2000 Saab 9-3... their Saab mechanic at the Dayton store is as good as they get. He knew exactly what to do, did it perfectly, and didn't do anything that wasn't necessary. Couldn't be better. But I had a *very* expensive Mini repair, new clutch and power steering leak fix. The clutch was slipping again in under 5000 miles, a worst case scenario because it is far enough that they don't know if I abused it or not, but I know I didn't. And the power steering leak is still leaking. The fact that they didn't get what should be a "do it in your sleep" repair right the first time makes me not want to go back and have them take it completely apart just to tell me they won't warranty it. And like I said, they have no way of knowing I wasn't out autocrossing the thing or that I didn't hand it to some idiot 16 year old who never drove a stick. So I don't really blame them for not volunteering to just redo it, but they can't blame me for not going back either, given *I* know the thing was not driven hard. I have a newer Saab also now, and I might take it back to them if they still have that same Saab guy working there. But I'm looking elsewhere to get the mini done right this time. (Update!) I'm leaving the above review unchanged, but adding stars. :) Since that original review, I got the time to take the mini apart myself to diagnose the issue. Before this, we were at an impasse. I was worried about giving them the car to see what was wrong because I then had no way of verifying what they said was true if they indicated the problem wasn't their fault, and my previous experiences with other shops have made it very difficult to trust. But they can't do anything to find the problem and make things right if I don't give them the car, which I didn't, and they have to trust me that I wasn't out drag racing the thing or teaching my kid to drive and murdering a clutch in cold blood. So I took the car apart (I have the skills and experience, just not always the time) and found the problem (a clutch slave cylinder was mounted on the wrong side of a mounting boss, which consumed most of the available clutch travel, which means it works fine when installed but as the clutch starts to wear it slips soon because the clutch never actually completely disengages). I took just the picture and the slave cylinder in to talk to the owner about "now what do we do?". I couldn't have been more pleased and more pleasantly surprised. Rick (the owner) immediately accepted full responsibility for the mistake, and wanted to send a tow truck over to my garage the next day to pick up the car so they can make it right. Ricky (the manager) walked into the room half way through the conversation (without hearing what I said was wrong yet), looked at the picture, and said "that was mounted wrong, it should be on the other side". They offered more than I asked for to try and make things right, which based on my previous dealings with, well, nearly every other shop I have ever dealt with, was a wonderful change. This was now two years after the original repair (the car more or less sat for a year while I was deciding what to do with it). All I walked in with was a $29 beat up part that for all they knew could have been bought on ebay, a picture of an incorrectly mounted slave cylinder, and a claim that the part and the picture was related to a mistake they made two years ago. It would have been staggeringly easy, and tempting, and probably even reasonable for them to say "we are really sorry, but because you didn't bring it here for us to make right, we can't help you". But they didn't. They are bending over backwards to make things right. I have tried to be as fair as I could be with them, and they have reciprocated by doing everything reasonable (and offering a few things that were above and beyond reasonable) to try and make things right. So I am back to "highly recommend". Their costs are below or on par or below what a dealer will charge, their expertise is at least as good as a dealer, and they have demonstrated that they will stand behind their work. Modern cars are staggering complex (take this from a guy with an engineering degree that builds robots for fun). Mistakes *will* happen no matter how careful you are or no matter where you go. So your first concern should be if a shop is capable of doing the job right, but an almost equal second concern should be if they will do the right thing when they make a mistake (because everyone does eventually). My husband and I decided not to repair my car until I contacted Foreign Exchange. The customer service I received from all of their staff, especially Ricky, was unsurpassed. The communication I received while my car was being repaired was fantastic and I am so please with the work they performed on my car. The repair cost was $5700.00 cheaper than the repair quote I received from BMW of Dayton. Foreign Exchange cared enough to look the entire car over, with my permission, prior to it leaving the facility to establish a baseline for my car. Before I went to Foreign Exchange in Moraine, I had invested quite a bit of money on repairs. people at the front desk are nice... But had my car in for an alignment and saw the guy who's doing my alignment floor my car. I saw him taking it out it out twice and he drove it really fast. My car is loud so I can really heart it.. Then right in front of me in the parking, he floor it again... After reading such positive reviews I was hoping for a better experience, however, that was not the case. I live in Washington state and my daughter (and her VW Beetle) is a student at UD. The car was recently hit from behind, resulting in minor cosmetic damage to the bumper and, just recently discovered, the trunk would not open. Since it was time for an oil change and I wasn't thrilled with White-Allen when I took the car there this summer, I was happy to see that, according to their website (remember, I'm in Washington), "Our Dayton, OH location offers body shop repair work..." , which would enable me to have the bumper looked, the trunk fixed, and have the oil change taken care of at the same time (by a AAA approved facility with stellar reviews). I scheduled an appointment for last Friday, explaining that I wanted an oil change, an estimate on the body work and the trunk issue addressed. Once there they found that there was water in the trunk. My husband spoke with Aaron and he explained that they would need to remove the interior of the trunk to find where it was leaking and that they couldn't get to it that day. He told them to go ahead and keep the car and find the problem, assuming they'd be able to fix it once they determined where it was leaking. After not hearing from them Monday we called them Tuesday morning. Aaron explained that they found the leak, which was on the attaching frame of the convertible top. They recommended removing the top and resealing, however "we do not have a body shop and cannot do the work". I don't understand why they didn't tell me that when I first made the appointment as asked for an estimate on the body work along with the oil change. I spent $212.00 in labor to have them tell me where the leak was even though they couldn't do the work. This should have been disclosed up front, as I would not have had them even look at it if they weren't able to do the repairs. The communication was poor and their website misleading. read more

So disappointed with this business! Do yourself a favor and take your vehicle to the dealer in the first place. We had a problem with our Mercedes 350ML. Since the ABS light came on and the car could not be driven, we called Foreign Exchange in Moraine. They assured us they could fix it at the Waynesville shop. Had it towed there and they kept it five days, only to call and say they were towing it to the Moraine shop since they could not find the problem there. After a week, they called to say they needed to order a $2,136 part for it and needed authorization for it. We agreed to the part and waited another week, only to be told the part was not fixing it. We told them if they could not fix it, we would have it towed to the dealer and pay them for their time. But, Chad assured us his shop liked a challenge and they would work on it some more because he believed they could fix it, but he needed authorization for more time, more money. Two days ago, they called to say they could not fix the car and we needed to have it towed to the dealer. They had the car three weeks and one day and did not fix it! They ran up the bill by asking for more time and they insisted the $2,136 part could not be returned, so we had to pay for it even though it was not helping the car. We were without the car for three weeks, and then they admitted they could not find the problem. Today they presented us a bill for $3,584.49, saying we still needed to pay for the part, even though it did not fix the issue and the labor was not cheap. It is so frustrating to be treated like this! Foreign Exchange is not a reputable business treating customers like this. Today they towed our car to the dealer, where we should have gone in the first place. We definitely would not recommend Foreign Exchange to anyone! read more

After the hail storm earlier this year, they did a great job of restoring my beloved Impreza, great team, good people.

I've dealt with these guys with a few cars of mine and have found that they are the most reliable and consistent service shop in the area. Their technicians are as good as they get and a huge relief in today's world of sketchy service shops. I'll certainly be a lifetime customer with my BMWs and have recommend them to my friends whom aren't fully satisfied with dealer service. They are always helpful with suggestions to eliminate future problems and they are concerned with your safety more importantly, once you leave in your vehicle. I've purchased a vehicle from them years ago and it runs better today than ever. You'll be hard pressed to find better combination of service writers and technicians in one location. My friends whom take their vehicles there feel the same about them. They wont steer you wrong, get in there and get those service lights eliminated, Nice vehicles are more fun without a bunch of lights on knowing they have made it more safe for you. read more
