If you ever suggested to me that a restaurant on a massive roundabout was a good place to go, I…read morewon't lie, I simply wouldn't believe you but that would be where I was wrong, and you were right. From the outside it doesn't look that enticing, but the internal decor is a revelation, and clearly aiming higher than you would expect. The staff are absolutely spot on; attentive, welcoming, engaging (but not intrusive) and accommodated our unclear booking (5 or 8 people? can't tell you!), even on a very busy Saturday night. The restaurant, nicely decorated and cosy despite it's size. The menu, lots of options (although for dairy allergies/vegans, not quite so good, although there are gluten free options there, so.. getting there). I had a lovely cold grilled vegetable platter to start, followed by pistachio crusted tuna on couscous. I found my main more disappointed - while the tuna was beautifully cooked, I missed the pistachio, and the couscous itself overcooked and very soggy, but tasted lovely. Very much a hit and miss for mains, although all of my dining companions enjoyed their meals. Everything was washed down with a tasty Montepulciano, that I won't lie, probably clouded my judgement by dessert. Now I've visited Cibo, I feel awful dismissing it for it's location, but it's highly worth a visit. And dress up, it will make you feel classy!

"I feel sick." I've been listening to my husband repeat…read morethis phrase for the past three hours. We had a 30-minute wait for our food, and when our food finally arrived one of our group was served the wrong meal. She had a further wait for her meal to be prepared. There are far too many items on the menu for the kitchen staff to master. Some items were not even close to restaurant quality, like sandwiches that looked like they were made by a university student rather than a chef. Almost everything comes with chips, whether they suit the entrée or not... even my enchilada. I've eaten many amazing enchiladas in many countries, but I strongly suspect that my enchilada was made by someone who had never actually eaten one. It was really just random vegetables in tomato sauce and put them in a tortilla accompanied with bland, gluey guacamole. My husband's macaroni cheese dish was overpriced, thick, and oily, and came with bread that was clearly microwaved. His cheesecake was bland, nauseatingly sweet, and soggy, with a sweaty sheen on top. It's the first time I've ever turned down a second bite of cheesecake! The very dark and dated decor would seem charming and quaint if the food was kickass. And it could be, if the menu was trimmed back to focus on traditional fare with a fresh, modern twist. One final suggestion: they really need to spellcheck their chalkboard menus!

I wouldn't say this is the best Indian restaurant that l have been to, but certainly not the worst,…read morewe came by on a Sunday where there is a Sunday buffet for under £9.00 per head, good value but authentic tasting definitely not, the food has been definitely adapted for the westerners. The dining area looks like an 80's theme, needs upgrading, or lick of paint, I got lost in the rest rooms and ended up in the dry stores (what the h*ll was someone thinking of putting a dry store in the toilets) as there was three doors to choose from l got the wrong door. There is only a small selection of draught beers available but the ones we got where not cold and they where flat. On the outside, the signage says that they won awards in this curry house but the newest award was over 10 years ago, they are giving themselves bad advertising by doing this.

Clippers was an a-ok Indian restaurant. The food was decent, as others reviewers have said, but…read morethere's definitely better Indian food to be had a drive away in Edinburgh city. I can never resist the creamy, sweet lure of a korma but Clippers' was by no means among the best. The same with the naan. I've had garlic naans just oozing with delicious fresh garlic but, again, Clippers' offering was just an a-okay in the flavours department. For me, the service was lacking because there was a certain pushiness about it all; pushing us for the buffet option, the persistence of 'another?' when it came to drinks; it was just a little much. The waiter even asked me, 'some rosé?' His attempt at person-drink matching was ultimately flawed. - Firstly, I'm a g & t girl and, secondly, I just wasn't in the mood for alcohol. It's daft to presume that everyone is. So, an a-okay by all means. Three stars for Clippers.
