BUYER BE WARE!! For many years I've been buying various items from this store, always trusting that they sell highest quality products at the best price - boy, was I wrong... The word clarified butter or ghee is self-explanatory, but just in case, it is simply a regular butter melted and simmered for 1/2 hr. Now let's consider a $11.49 price for 19.41oz of a product that contains "fat SUBSTITUTE/refined DEODORIZED vegetable oils in natural and IMPROVED form; grapeseed, soybean, emulsifier sunflower lecithin" - just look at the list of ingredients on the label - there's everything else but butter!! I won't put this stuff on my table and don't recommend that you do. read more

Always come here since they have amazing selections for vegan and Whole Foods in general! I purchased some vegan sausages, and returned it the next day due to molding. Rude interaction overall on trying to exchange the item, not even return it. Finally agrees to exchange it, mind you, we (me and my partner) visit frequent. I come here when I need something on the fly, otherwise I use vitacost, iHerb or amazon. the prices are very high but what really pisses me off is the damn service! I came in, quickly got my items, put them on the counter and waited for the woman working today to get off her phone and acknowledge the fact that there is a paying customer at the counter! She was so rude did not even say anything to me other than the total and that was all and she went back to her phone. This is a great store that sells only organic products, so for all the people who care about organic stuff- this place is for you. It sells a multitude of things that you would randomly need at different points in your life like tea tree oil. They also have tea and shampoo and a bunch of other things. That you might just happen to stumble upon and ultimately purchase. But of course, it's not cheap here- but they do sell quality stuff. They have a whole section dedicated to different types of medicinal and aromatic oils- all pure oils from Now Essential Oils. I mean, if you're not willing to wait for Amazon to ship it over to you, you could always come here. Definitely four stars for their huge selection. read more

I'm torn with whether to grant this 3 stars or 4 stars, but in all fairness, compared to all my reviews, this is really a 3 star market, grocery, health food spot. Located right in the middle of Sheepshead Bay, and literally on the same block as the B/Q train Sheepshead Bay train station, this local market is the only one that has any semblance of true organic produce, breads, meats, cheeses, groceries and vitamins/supplements. They also have raw snacks, yay, but since they are the only game in town, you will pay higher prices than let's say some of the stores in Cortelyou Rd. However, not to shame the place, it's catered to the local Russian community near Brighton and Manhattan Beaches, so the staff all have a thick Russian accent. But they are polite and helpful, so diversity is a great thing! It's great to stop by and pick up some of my favorites like green salad, tomatoes, avocados, bananas, apples, my staples, and whatever else makes sense. They even stock raw cow's milk cheese...but you didn't hear it from me. Thank goodness for Forces of Nature - it's a small place, but it has all the essentials when you don't feel like driving far, or don't feel like driving at all. Due to Hurricane Sandy, there was a separate shop two doors down just for vitamins and supplements - it's merged into one shop now. Stay tuned as they renovate. read more

When I am here for the holidays, I do come here for some organic and natural products. They have a decent sized selection between the two stores. They are priced much higher than if you were to go to Whole Foods or Trader Joe's. I once saw 1lb of organic strawberries for $12 which is absurd. A whole organic chicken will run you at around $22-25 depending on the size. So for specialty items, it will do in a pinch, but for organic produce you are better going to Sheepshead Bay Market (still expensive) or Stop and Shop nearby. If you get a membership here after spending a certain amount, you will get 10% off every future order which is nice, I guess. read more

This place carries a very wide array of vitamins and healthcare and holistic products as well as a decent selection of niche health foods, teas etc. If you are looking for a specific herbal vitamin, mineral etc. you will likely find it here-- at a substantial premium, which is why I very rarely shop here. A few examples of quirky things I have looked for here: ear candles, olive leaf, garlic juice (for medicinal purposes), garlic oil, specific teas, gluten-free products. The staff is hit or miss. I can always find someone in the store to answer my question, although a few workers clearly want nothing to do with non-Russian customers. They have a loyalty program. You save $200 of receipts from within the past year (I believe, maybe $300) and then receive 10% off. The location is very convenient, the store is kept very clean and while they carry such a large variety of products in such a small space, it does not feel cramped. read more

I shop at this store all the time and have been shopping for the past 6 years that I lived not far away. My family and friends also shop here. I never had a problem until i purchased 2 products one which after opening smelled putrid and spoiled. I have used this product before from other brands and it has never smelled spoiled before so I know a bad smell when i smell one. The manager refused to give me a refund or store credit. For $16 bucks he was willing to lose a loyal customer or shall i say customers because I will make sure all my friends and family know. He also continued to tell me that the product was fine and organic...to someone who has been formulating cosmetics for years and knows how this product is supposed to smell organic or not. Interesting stuff... but you can buy a lot of specialty products they carry in a shop rite for less or even Trader Joe's. It's a nice experience because if I were a super health nut- u know the vegan, gluten free, non-gmo type we all know in our lives (nothing against them, sort of jealous in fact)- they have certain things you may not be able to find elsewhere. That kinda goes for all local shops no? Interesting breads, drinks, crackers, wheat, barley, flour, and protein powders of all sorts. An assortment of foreign, European stuff too. Their fruit didn't look fresh or bountiful enough to account for the boutique, almost city prices. Very disappointed in this store. My family and I have been shopping here for years. It's way overpriced and you can get much cheaper organic produce at stop n shop and cheaper supplants at Whole Foods but alas e don't always have Time for city trips. About 40 percent of the time I buy meat here it doesn't smell fresh. I feel their fridge is not cold enough. Chicken liver used to leak blood and smell bad almost every time. And every time I return bad meat it takes a minimum of 30 minutes with multiple staff smelling, questioning, and giving a loyal customer rules such as "well you bought it over a day ago..." "well you put in the freezer,". EVERY time there is an issue where they don't want to refund or even exchange the smelly meat and I have to fight for it. But after today when the staff smelled it and told me that it smelled fine and that the expiration was ok and didn't want to return it I am DONE with this store. They can eat meat that smells. I know meat and there should be no smell. Given them too many chances to have proper customer service and they don't. Go elsewhere, I am a big health food conassaour and never had these issues at another store which are always cheaper anyway: stop n shop and Whole Foods take any questionable products back no questions asked. It doesn't take forever and you're not asked demeaning and disrespectful questions where you're blamed for the stores bad meat handling policy. Won't shop here anymore. They need better customer service for sure. read more

The place is at most mediocre. People have no choice but to give this place business because there are no viable alternatives in this part of Brooklyn. However the point of this review is to point out how horrible customer service is and how rude, abrasive and obnoxious are the people who work here. You will never see a smile and when you ask a question you get looked down on and are "helped" while the employee continues the conversation with the co worker, as if you had the audacity to bother these wonderful people who were in the midst of having a very important discussion. I try to avoid this place as much as possible because produce are stale, selection is horrible and prices are obnoxious but. I don't understand why these people think that a smile is beneath them and being helpful is a concept paralleled only to a mortal disease. I go here occasionally-very nice selection. When I had the flu 2 winters ago, my ear was plugged up after I recovered. Instead of a doctor visit I went here and a helpful employee recommended Traumeel ear drops from Germany. They were $12-pricey foir a few capsules but did the trick well. No doctor visit. Another time I got a $17 creme for my knee when I pulled it running and no doctor visit. Also recommeded by a helpful employee. I am a big fan of homeopathic medicine and this is the place to go. They have a large selection of other things too. I also like Stop and Shop organics aisle but for medications and makeup, this is a good place in the area. Went to this store about 9 days ago and bought a diet product that the owner of the store RECOMMENDED. when I got home I looked up the product to see that there wasn't much about it on the Internet so I decided I wanted to take it back and get something that's more commonly used. I didn't have my receipt but my information on everything I bought is saved on their computer since my mother in law is enrolled in their rewards program. The guy who I assume is the manager REFUSED to not even return my item but to EXCHANGE it for something else. He said they have a 7 DAY RETURN OR EXCHANGE policy. It's been 9 days... and I must say he wasn't very understanding or considerate but he was rude about the whole situation. I will not go back to this store. Why do places like this still exist? I can buy everything they have online for wayyyy cheaper. The rewards system is stupid. I have to spend $200 before I see savings. I hope by the time I spend that much I'll be healthy enough to do without them. The people who work there for the most part have no knowledge of supplements. Except for one guy who I thought was pretty knowledgeable, but as soon as he tried to sell me on homeopathic products I knew he was full of it too. The general air of workers there seems to be dismissive. Like they can't be bothered and don't want to be there. Probably cause they treat their workers like crap.
