Had a 130 appointment with Lamar today per recommendation of a relative, first time at this salon. I arrived early, the receptionist was not welcoming. I sat down and waited for Lamar for about 10 min after my appointment time. Lamar was finishing up with someone else so I assumed that was the reason for the wait. A man came in after me, and he went into the chair with Lamar next. Then, a woman came up to me and asked if I was ready for my haircut. What? I had been sitting there over 10 min. I told her I wanted her to cut my hair symmetrical. She ended up giving me possibly the worst haircut I've ever had. I am so disappointed and the way she cut around my ears is absolutely not symmetrical. One ear is cut around really high up and the other is not. She didn't even show me the back of my head after her cut. I'm so disappointed and feel like I look like a clown now and have to do family and friend gatherings for thanksgiving looking like this...people I haven't seen in years. I'm satisfied with the haircut but.... I went online a day before my haircut and booked my appointment with Leanne for 2pm. I had to fill out a set of fields on the site, verify my email address, blah blah and after 5 min of the online saga, I finally booked my appointment. I went to the salon at 1:45pm and showed them my appointment email confirmation. Unfortunately, it was not honored. Leanne also transferred the blame to me saying that I had booked at the same time with someone else, which caused the error. Later, I overheard the 2pm appointment guy saying that Leanne had called him up and asked him to come half an hour early because she was free at 2. I had to get a haircut from someone else thanks to this. Overall, not what I expect when I pay $25. Tip: Don't book online; call and make the appointment. Get your haircut from Suzanne, she's the best. She has been my stylist for 8 years (grad school and postdoc)! She is very versatile, I changed the way I wanted my hair done fairly regularly and she always came through with a great cut. I tried others at for men only over the years and while they were good, I always came back to Suzanne for her consistency and fun conversations. Pro tips: I would recommend making a reservation online too, it's easy, you can pick your stylist, and know you won't have to come back later if it's busy. It's probably been mentioned but grab a free Yuengling from the tap while you wait or get your hair cut. You can get a free shape up in between hair cuts which is great when you don't have time for a full cut but need to get cleaned up. read more

I've been here 3 or 4 times- have gotten a new stylist each time. I'm always pleased with the whole experience. I would advise getting an appointment; once they book up they'll take a few walk-ins, but this is a gamble as to how long you'll wait. I will say I was one of two walk-ins just now and they got pretty busy around lunch, and they didn't just keep taking walk-ins (a good thing), they started advising that the wait would be too long. This visit I had Tanya- she was awesome. Didn't talk too much, was very pleasant- worked through a quick discussion of what I wanted- she was calm and competent- not stressed and hurried. If you are a guy with short hair, this is the place to go. They get the big things right: get you in and out quick (assuming you have an appointment), give you any popular men's style you ask for, give you a shampoo, and style your hair with your choice of product. For just this, they are pretty good. However, where they really shine are the details: hot lather neck shave, hot towel with the shampoo, free beer while you wait, and a free "clean-up" after one/two weeks. The beer is novel and the hot towel is relaxing, while the neck shave clean-up will ensure that you look your best. The clean-up is why this is the place to go if you have short hair. Everywhere else will charge you just to get the corners and back cleaned up, but here they will just give it to you. For my hair style, that means that I look good for a month, instead of looking like a bum by the time I get my next hair cut. read more

I have been coming here on and off for a while now. I have had 1 bad haircut here in the past 3-4 years. Otherwise, they know their job. Today, Tanya did my hair. I liked that she asked me just enough questions about how I liked it cut, but didn't go to technical. She used her judgement and experience and gave me the right suggestions before she went ahead. I have has other people do the job too, and they all did well. So yea, bottom line, come here if you want to get a haircut but not have to decide whether size 1 clipper is better or size 2. They don't mind giving a professional opinion, and that's what really counts in this business. Annoying part, this new electronic sign-in kiosk at the salon. It just keeps zooming in and out. She is experienced, knowledgeable, skilled, and works with you to get exactly the look you want. Tanya is a lovely person--warm, down to earth, interesting, welcoming, and chill. Been in here once to get a haircut, and it worked out pretty well. The stylist was an older guy - don't remember his name unfortunately. The lady at the front desk was a little rude but the hair cut was good. This morning I went in with an appointment for my second cut with these guys, showed up at 12:00 on the dot. There was a crowd of guys out front, surrounding two stylists who couldn't believe that neither of them had brought keys to open the place up. I went down the street to the bookstore to give them some time to work it out, came back 10 minutes later and they had bumped me off the list and wanted me to come back in at 1:30. I sent in my feedback to For Men Only but as of a week later, I still haven't heard from them. You sometimes feel that if they get to you, you should be grateful. Bear in mind, this is after making a reservation. I have been going here for about 6-8 months (at least one visit per month) and am sad to say that this experience has happened more than once. My most recent visit I was overlooked as having a reservation (although it was written on their sign-in sheet) and when I brought this to the attention of the stylist, her first response was: You can't wait? I know mistakes happen and some customers take longer than others. Fine, we're all human. I worked in the service industry 10 years and know things don't always (or seldom) run the way we'd like them to. I also know that "For Men Only" does "shape ups" where a customer can come in and, briefly cutting into a reserved time slot, get a nice little trim for free (this wasn't the case in either of the instances where I was overlooked). But to be treated this way and repeatedly displays a lack of concern for the image of their brand and a disregard for the satisfaction of the customer. I have a stylist I really like here and the "perks" (a beer and free trim-ups) are an added bonus. I'm unsure, however, if it is worth the cold/indifferent attitude I've encountered from time to time. read more

I was starting a new job, so I thought I would get a step up from my usual at Supercuts. How wrong I was, the abomination I received was the worst hair cut in the history of mankind. Do not go to this "barber" they will hack your hair up like they did to me, twice in one sitting! I really can't believe how horrible the service was. The woman was rushing as she hacked away at my hair. She nicked me down to the scalp and kept on going without informing me. Awful, awful service. Went there today for a haircut, signed in and was the only one waiting. Two guys finish getting their haircut, and while they're paying, another guy walks in. I hear him clearly state he doesn't have an appt. He sits down for a minute, and then gets called up right away. The other guy looks like your typical Penn State student. The other stylist finishes cleaning up her station, looks at me, makes eye contact, smirks, and then goes back to cleaning her glasses. I walked out because I didn't have the time to raise a fuss and still make my next appt. It's 2017, and I shouldn't have to deal with not meeting the shop's demographic. read more
