My first time going in the store, but we came because the mall left us barefoot in our souls. I called ahead to make sure they carried the brand we wanted, I was looking specifically for Hoka and they had a huge selection! If you are looking for a specialty shoe or a finer brand, this is your one stop shop. The representative who answered the phone was extremely friendly and knowledgeable, and when we were in the store, there were several people ready to help. They are old school classy and help place the shoe on your foot, which is such a nice touch. Excellent selection of adorable socks and the clearance section was impressive as well. If you are a shoe aficionado you should stop by and get your high. I would highly recommend this store for anyone who needs a specialty brand or certain support . Terrible. Honestly it's the first review I've ever written unless it was positive. I bought a pair of Hoka's off the clearance rack for over $100, wore them one time on a paved trail for about a mile and have never felt more pain from a shoe in my life and they won't take them back. Yes, I'm very upset. I'd have settled for in store credit since they don't do returns. Yes the bottoms have some show from me walking in them, but they said they were dirty all over, that's a lie. We Bought sandals this past weekend for my husband. He wore them twice and one of the shoes began coming apart at the seam. I spoke with the manager, Bruce, who said they would repair the sandal but refused to stand behind the product in what would be, with a reputable retailer/brand, a reasonable fashion. He refused to reimburse our money or even replace the sander's that are clearly defective. We have done business with this store over the years and recommended it to family and friends. I love this store. I live in California and buy my shoes here while visiting family in Salem. The store is nice and is clean, and they have a good selection of shoes and even have my sort of odd size shoe in stock that few other shoe stores I've been to have. Just went to exchange some dansko shoes my mom had bought for work. She was told that she had 30 days to return or exchange the shoes. There was nothing there that she has to return them in "original condition" or with the same packaging. Just the days. She likes the shoes that she bought but the return policy that this store has is atrocious. The girl that "helped" with the return was extremely rude saying that because of the dirt on the bottom of the shoes she can't exchange them. My mom works 10 hour shifts at a hospital and she normally wears these kinds of shoes all the time. But these were uncomfortable. All she wanted to do was exchange them but she wasn't even allowed to do that. If I could give this store a 0 star for their horrible service I would. Will not be returning here again. read more

BRAVO Footwear Express, Salem! I am pleased and completely satisfied buying shoes from Footwear Express, Salem. The store is large with a big inventory. I came in the store needing help. I'm not an easy fit, with long skinny feet, and left foot longer than right. Joel helped me, he competently measured my feet and explained his findings. He then returned with 3 different sneakers, and then more for me to try. He was patient, and I found two pairs. Upon returning home, an 80 mile drive to the Oregon coast I laced the top eyelets of my Hoka pair and found a missing eyelet on the left shoe. I called the shop and was asked to send a photo of the problem. In less than an hour after sending the photo I was sent a return postage paid label for mailing. I boxed the shoes and took them to the post office. The next day I received a phone call from Kaleena verifying the shoes had been received and my account was credited. Two months ago I purchased a pair of short boots for my daughter that cost $150. In under a month, the heels started coming off. I brought them in and they replaced them. Then 3 weeks later the zipper teeth separated from the fabric. They won't replace them or give us our money back. These shoes were less than 2 months old and they blamed us for "wearing them too hard." Frankly, for $150, they should be able to take it, but they weren't even "worn hard." They were worn daily to school and that is all. They were junk. This store sells junk for high prices and doesn't make it right when they do. So, I get that businesses have policies around covid-19 and masks. I try to respect them and others as much as I can. We had been shopping all day and ended up at this place with my mother who was looking at shoes. I started to feel a little light headed and needed a break so I sat on the bench and pulled my mask down to breath for minute. I obviously have it on and no one was anywhere close to me. I would have pulled it back up if so. The sales girl walked over and said "pull your mask up over your nose" not in a nice way but rude. Shaming and accusatory. So I pulled it up. Then she proceeds to walk in front of me in the 2-3ft area directly in front of where I was sitting. Not social distancing at all when she could have walked around the other direction! So, I guess she just felt like pulling a control trip on me. It was really rude. We can still treat each other like human beings and have a little understanding. You don't know anything about me. I love this store. My mom introduced me to it when I got my first job as a dining room server. My feet always hurt by the end of the day until my mom got me some Alegrias for my birthday and it saved my feet. I get great customer service every time, especially today. My favorite shoes got a big tear and I thought there was no hope but the gentleman who helped me said that he thought there was something they could do. I'm surprised at how many people don't know about this GREAT store. They have a large selection of quality brands (Birkenstock, Clarks, Dansko, Mephisto, etc.). Prices are good, and they have a nice SALE rack. I went in this evening knowing what I wanted -- a new pair of Birks, Gizeh style, my favorite that I've work religiously for years. They had a nice variety of colors. Sales staff were attentive, and helpful, but also left me alone when I pleasantly said, "Just looking, I'll let you know if I have any questions." I walked out with three pairs of shoes, including two unique things I hadn't seen elsewhere. Oofos thongs, and a pair of Chaco ReversiFlips. (I love my shoes, but I'm no fancy heels chic, that's for sure.) i'd been in before because they also carry Baggallini handbags as well. After a week, his back and feet hurt worse than before the new shoes. He then spent more money on special insoles. When the pain got worse, we tried to exchange or at least get partial store credit. Terrible customer service. Seriously, don't go here. I purchased a pair of shoes for work here and wore them for no longer than 2 hours before getting blisters on the top of my feet. After trying to bring them back to exchange I was met with a super hostile employee who told me they needed to be "original condition". They had a speck of dirt on the bottom from walking on carpeted surfaces. After telling me I could try the manager the next day I brought them in only to have them yanked from me and brought to the back to talk to the manager in private. He then came out and proceeded to talk down to us saying that they were not like new. After asking what he considered to be like new he showed us a new pair that literally looked exactly the same. Finally after talking for 10 minutes they agreed to exchange them but the hostility continued. The return policy if you can call it that, is extremely strict and unreasonable. The manager said to try them on carpeted surfaces before going outside, but I work as a receptionist on carpeted surface! Seriously, avoid at all costs and find a reasonable shoe store, not worth your frustration. read more

I bought a pair of Birkenstocks during their sale yesterday evening, and uploaded a photo of my receipt so you can see, they were paid for yesterday. I wore them today for a few hours and realized they weren't the correct size. I went back today and the girl told me that since they were worn and not "original condition" I couldn't exchange them. I wore them literally less than a day, and I didn't want to return them, only exchange for a different size. I also told her that when I had come in yesterday, nobody helped me or assisted in picking the right size, and had bothered to tell me I couldn't exchange them. She just said "it's on the bottom of the receipt". I totally get that I should have taken more time and made someone help me pick out the Birkenstocks before buying them, since I've never owned a pair..... But their customer service is horrible and the girl just kept saying "Ohhhh, sorry!" in that way that you can tell she is not sorry at all. I am so impressed with this store! I stumbled upon it while on business in Salem. I didn't have time to visit it that day, but saw plenty of shoes in the window that interested me. Later my sister and I went there and received the best help ever from Helah. I tried on probably 15 pairs (I have very hard to fit feet, with all the problems of middle age) and Helah helped me find a perfect pair of shoes. Really, really cute. Only they did not have my size. Helah called the Albany store and ordered it from them. I asked her to wait until Monday before shipping so I could check with work and see whether I would be required to travel to Salem that week or not. I called the store on Monday and talked with another person who TOTALLY knew what the situation was! I said I would not be coming to Salem that week, and asked if they could please send my shoes to Portland. They arrived the very next day!! This store has totally cute shoes, for all ages and feet. My experience reflects many of the other reviewers. Wish I had checked before purchase. I bought my first pair of Birkenstock and was very unsure of sizing and spent a lot time in store. I asked salesperson for help and got very little help in checking my choice of size . The salesperson told me to wear them in house and try them out and if they did not work to bring them back. She did say not to wear them outside and I did not. I wore them couple times in house and realized they were too big. When I bought them back they refused to exchange them for proper size as they had been worn ! I explained what prior sales person said and this one just said sorry! I really like to support small shops but they are convincing me why small local shops are going away. I would certainly not recommend this store. read more

I bought a pair of $135 birkenstocks that had a defective buckle and they wouldn't exchange them they straightened the buckle which also scratched it and said since it was worn they couldn't be exchanged. Then someone came out from the back and said it was my fault because I tried them on and should have noticed it. I bought over $300 shoes in that purchase. They charged me $60 less for a pair of shoes because they got in the wrong box and I came in and made that right but they were nasty and just said I should have noticed the defect - but yet they didn't notice a $60 mistake! I had an incident with Footwear Express several years ago. I wasn't feeling well so asked I could take the shoes home and return them if they didn't work and the clerk told me yes. When I tried to return them 2 days later in perfect unworn condition. I was told that I could only get in store credit and they pointed to a small sign near the cash register that was on the opposite side than I had checked out stating in store credit only. The manager came out and was very rude and said that his "girls" would not have told me that I could return them for a refund. After many years of boycotting the store and trying every other store I could think of I returned today to purchase some socks. The clerk asked me if I need help and after I said I wanted some socks she pointed to a rack. After finding a pair I thought might work I asked if they had other ones that might work and she pointed to the far wall. She offered no help and was not friendly even on the verge of being rude. Perhaps just buying socks and not shoes wasn't enough for me to warrant any help. There are lots of cute styles of shoes in the store, but won't bother to go in to the store again. read more

Just bought a pair of Danskos from here. Terrible customer service. My sales associate was rude and caddy. Her and the rest of the sales associates just sat around and seemed genuinely annoyed by any questions I had or request to try on a shoe. The shoe selection is excellent but the quality of customer service is very poor. Also, my sales associates breasts were hanging out the entire time she was helping me with shoe fittings and it was disgusting. Again the quality of customer service here was terrible. Never again. The return policy, or non return policy, is also unreasonable. There's lots of other places to buy shoes. read more

I bought a great pair of Danskos here about a year ago. I literally walk my entire shift for a living, so a good pair of shoes can make or break me. My heels had worn unevenly (as with any other shoe I have ever worn), causing severe lower back pain. So I had to stop wearing them. Today as I was running errands, I stopped in prepared to buy the exact pair again. I was talking to the saleswoman (I didn't get her name, but she was really friendly) and explained how my supination wears out every shoe I've ever had. She told me to bring my shoes in and the heel could easily be fixed. I had no idea that this store did shoe repairs, so I was elated! My second trip (an hour later) was awful and I will never step foot into the store again. I was greeted by a second saleswoman as "hello...AGAIN" very sternly. I smiled and told her I was there to have my shoes repaired and she just looked at them and said "That's normal wear." I set them on the counter and showed her how uneven they are and how uncomfortable they are to wear. I was thinking she would tell this to the person fixing my shoe so he could troubleshoot. She rudely interrupted me and scoffed back behind the curtain as she said "ugh, I'll show Bruce!" She didn't think anything needed to be done about my shoes apparently, but she obviously doesn't walk for a living. She said "I only have one pair left in your size" I WASN'T THERE TO BUY SHOES! I WAS THERE TO HAVE SHOES REPAIRED! HOW IS SHE STILL MISSING THE POINT?!!! He came out and I explained that I roll my ankles a lot as my heels wear down. I asked if there was anything I could do to lengthen the life of my shoes. He was so kind and offered to put shoe taps on at no charge. (In which I hope helps.) She was just rolling her eyes at this point. I told him thank you and was on my way out. The first saleswoman gave me a friendly goodbye. But even late into the night, I am still wondering why this girl was so AWFUL to me. She was young, with dark hair and a lot of eyeliner and a pink shirt. I'm glad she didn't have a name tag because at least I don't have to cringe when I come across her name. read more
