This dojo is the ultimate safe, judgment-free zone where my son is allowed to grow at his own pace. What blows me away is how they exemplfy a bit of Mr. Miyagi when it comes to integrity, discipline, and respect. On the days my kid walks in having a total meltdown, the instructors don't force him to just push through it with robot stoicism--they meet him exactly where he's at, respect his mood, and gently guide him back into the game. The staff cheers these kids on with the kind of pure, unadulterated enthusiasm you usually only see from lottery winners. A massive, glowing shoutout needs to go to Stephanie, who is a absolute powerhouse of patience and deserves a medal, a raise, and possibly a vacation on a private island for the magic she pulls off daily. Even the attending parents break the mold here. You will find that everyone genuinely supports one another. If you want a place that builds a better version of me - lol - this is it. All joking aside, my son's wish to return time after time is probably the best compliment I can give of this place. I suggest all parents that are not sure to do what we did -- call or email the office. The Sensei Marcus, Sensei Christina and all the instructors are patient, encouraging, and really know how to work with kids while still teaching discipline and respect. Since starting, I've seen a big boost in her confidence and focus. She looks forward to every class and is always excited to show us the new skills she's learning. The classes are well organized and keep the kids engaged while still challenging them. They truly care about the kids and helping them grow, not just in karate but in confidence and character as well. He teaches my "cane-fu" class, which is more like practical self-defense for older people (who might happen to have a cane handy.) He and his son and another sensei teach my daughter's kenpo class, where they do learn kata and forms, but they always make sure you know what the moves are a response to. In fact, that's Stan's first question almost every time: "why are you doing this?" Hard to believe this quality of martial arts instruction exists in small-town Galt.

I haven't been to his dojo in downtown Galt, but he used to have classes in his backyard(or garage on rainy days) which was quite the experience. I remember one day, trying to do a form while he distracted our eyes with a water hose...haha. He didn't do that often but he was always trying to find new ways to mix things up for us. I really appreciated how different it was compared to the usual karate place, where you can see yourself doing forms in the mirrored walls, he emphasized body control- knowing where your foot is(without looking) so that you don't screw up the technique for example. I don't know how his classes are currently, but I think he provided great real world tactical self defense back then and have no doubts that he's still a great teacher. I wish I had stuck with it longer than I did.
