I want to give this place a better review than I have. It's a nice change from the Prets and Costas in the area, and I love the idea of having mixed salads.
But they do the one thing I hate when food is sold by the weight: they serve it for you. I've been here a few times and always have problems with them giving me too much. Today for example, they tried to charge me over £8 for a salad box, because when I asked for just a little bit of the sweet potato and fig salad, "just a small scoop," the server gave me two giant scoops. So he took off 80p. Really? I also wanted a small scoop of the beans, but got a big portion. Oddly enough, when I asked for the cucumber salad but didn't indicate how much I wanted, he gave me a tiny scoop.
Also, I wish they'd denote when things have chili in them - my sweet potato and fig salad was spicy, as was the cucumber salad. It was good, but not what I wanted today.
They used to have chicken escalope but now just have pork escalope; if you don't eat red meat your protein options are pretty much limited to a fish cake and a quarter chicken in sauce.
The layout isn't great, either. I understand the choice to have the salads in the window are to entice people to come in - and they do look great, don't get me wrong - but when there's a queue (and there usually is) the queue to order blocks off the salads, making it very difficult to tell the server which salads you want.
But yeah, my biggest grips are definitely the chili without labelling and, even more than that, the portion sizes. I don't think it's too much to ask, when things are priced according to weight, to have a say in how much you're getting! read more
