During the summer, they are slammed, but they never run out of anything, the staff is always polite and helpful, and they have good deals on food. This Food Lion is convenient and easy to get to if you're in the area. The service is great and the deli has many options of cheese and meat ready for pickup so there's no waiting at the counter. They make great hot wings too. I like all the options right when you enter the store too. read more

After a 10 hour workday, I was given the privilege of checking out and bagging my own groceries while (I kid you not) TWO employees watched and chatted with one another behind me . One was the manger. Were they sufficiently staffed to open a checkout lane. Absolutely. I am obviously in the wrong business as it must be incredibly satisfying to watch your customers doing your work for you. And paying high prices for the opportunity to work at Food Lion. Thank goodness for the lazy employees this store has. Brings new meaning to customer service. read more

Blonde dude named Calvin checking ids at self checkout saying ids are fake even though we gave 4 real ids. All 4 of us are over 21 which is why we came to food lion together to buy alcohol. We are not that stupid to bring in a underage person with a fake id to get alcohol when we could have left him at home.. makes no sense why one of us would be underage. One of our friends who is over 21 came after that day to buy alcohol for himself, and once again Calvin denied selling alcohol to him and said his id is fake. Dude does not know how to do his job properly and should not be checking ids if he does not know the difference between a fake and a real id. After he denied us alcohol, him and a lady customer started mocking us saying "those kids are so scared" and such. Very unprofessional, definitely should be looked at. read more

This Food Lion is near and dear to my heart. I am a northern transplant to the Charlotte area just like more than half of our population. As such, I have struggled to find a grocery store that I like since I was spoiled with Stop and Shop and Shop Rite. I absolutely hated Food Lion and Harris Teeter when I first moved down here in 2012. I shortly thereafter started vacationing yearly at Sunset Beach and found this gem of a Food Lion. It was so much more modern and updated than the ones near me in Concord. Slowly, but surely, I started to fall in love with this Food Lion. I think it might have been a combo of the kind locals and the happiness of just being at the beach, but this Food Lion completely changed my opinion of Food Lion. I have since become a fiercely loyal Food Lion customer and utilize their Food Lion to Go regularly. read more

"That was one nice Food Lion!", my daughter commented as we rode away with our weekly food cache while kicking off our annual trip to Sunset Beach, and she was right. Spoiled by Harris Teeter and Publix, we typically avoid Food Lion back home, but this beach location has its own charm, which can best be attributed to the pleasant locals that it employs. Besides the friendly service, it is also larger than your typical Food Lion. The meat and produce departments both offer plenty of fresh products and the deli/ bakery, which happily greets you upon entry, is also a tempting option. Of course, it is geared to the tourist so the expected selection of beachy items like straw hats, sand toys, flip flops and what not. The prices seem to be a bit pricier than your average Food Lion but not drastically so. read more

My friends and I, all college graduates 22 years and above, went to buy 2 cases of alcohol while on vacation. We all gave the worker, Calvin at self-checkout, our IDs. He refused alcohol to us because he simply didn't believe us. One out of four of us didn't have the "Real ID" star on his drivers license and Calvin, along with his managers had no knowledge about this although it is common sense that it is still a valid ID. I would recommend these employees to gain some knowledge of what IDs look like and that they're not all going to be 100% identical. Keep in mind, Calvin showed us his ID and he isn't even old enough to purchase alcohol. I would not recommend this store. They decided they wanted to refuse us just because they could, no validation behind it at all. Calvin also was mocking us to a random customer. By the end of it, he knew he was in the wrong saying it was a "learning experience" for him, yet still did nothing to change his behavior. Completely unprofessional! read more

This is our go-to place for groceries about 90% of the time. Sure, you have to know when to avoid those pesky out-of-towners during the summer months but, if you time it right, the shopping experience is quite pleasant. They offer everything we need to live and survive. They've never not had anything that I'm looking for. The place seems to always be clean. That's a big plus! In fact, I'm going by there on the way home from work today! Convenient! read more

I like this store has a lot of items and less expensive then Lowes and Publix, self serve checkouts that have a cool added bonus of having special bags no charge for your cold items that you purchase. The Food Lion brand items are also good, the English Breakfast tea is really good and inexpensive. They have good customer service. read more

Buy it here. Don't wait till you get to the beach! This little gem, recently renovated, was built about 10 or so years ago. It was a great improvement to the old food lion across 904 and down the street a bit. The new location is nice, clean, easy to access without having to negotiate the intersection, and full of russians??? I'm telling you, between Russians, Mexicans, Americans, and Carolinians, this place is like a UN with a frozen food section! Nothing against it at all, I could care less, but it's just weird... this place is literally 1/4 of a mile from the least populated beach in NC, 30+ miles from the nearest "city" and surrounded by retirees... oh well.... back to the food.... So the store is laid out nicely and has all the ammenities you'd expect from a food lion. They have a great deli, butcher and beer selection... basically everything you need for a successful beach week. The prices are about 50% cheaper than the small market on the island. Save the onesies and twosies for the market and make your big purchases at Food Lion. The last tip I'll give you is to your shopping at off hours. Everyone who visits sunset for the week moves in on Sunday, moves out on Saturday. Sunday in the summers is insanity at Food Lion. Pick up 48 hours worth of food, or eat out the first day and a half, then Monday night at about 11 pm, go hit the store for all your food for the week. Trust me, you'll thank me for it and I know what I'm talking about. My driver's license says "Sunset Beach" on it. read more

Come here for our shopping on vacation every year. They really came through for me the last time I was in. Had to run to the bathroom and to my surprise it was very clean and specious. Also they have a nice beer slection. Would shop and go to the bathroom here again. read more

An okay grocery store...doesn't have the finer selection that somewhere like the Lowe's does just across the border. Big plus, though, is that it's open 24/7 during the summer. Helpful when a lot of places in this town close around 4pm. read more

I called ahead to find out the hours for the wings at the hit bar. The guy told me confidently that the refresh all day. I'm 8 minutes away. I arrived about 15 minutes later and most of the wings were empty. And there are flys everywhere!! What's yo with th flys?? I asked and they said more would be ready in 10 minutes, so I shipped. When I came back, the guy said the young lady was saucing them. So I waited and watch the staff do more talking than working. The guy who gets the garbage needs to be supervised or fired. Needless to say, I left without wings. And when I went to Custoner Service to leave my basket and tell them why I was leaving, the guy ignored me and cleaned his counter. Yeah, he didn't see me. I'm 5'10" and I also coughed to get his attention. I will go to Food Lion in Calabash, which is my home store, without the wing bar. read more
