The incredible variety of high-quality food and gourmet items will literally make your mouth water. Inspired by the food markets of Europe, this Greensboro based specialty grocery chain at the Towers Shopping Center in Southwest Roanoke, offers a refreshing change of pace. It provides a much more intimate, personalized shopping experience than your average Roanoke supermarket. No wonder it was again voted in 2026, #1 Best Grocery Store by USA Today Readers Choice, as well as #1 Best Grocery Produce, Bakery, Deli, and Prepared Foods. Today, I was able to confirm all of the above through personal experience. As I walked around the store, I was very impressed by all of its departments and the high quality of their offerings. They have beautiful flowers, fresh bread, amazing steaks and seafood, sparkling fruits and vegetables, a great variety of coffees, top-of-the-line wines, and exquisite prepared foods, among others. I invite you to view my photographs accompanying this review to get a true sense of this wonderful marketplace! What impressed me most was their excellent staff. They were highly engaged and genuinely eager to help. When I asked the meat department if they carried Hanger Steak, the employee gave me a well-reasoned explanation for why they didn't. Little did he know, I had already thoroughly researched Hanger Steak for one of my previous restaurant reviews! At the bakery, I fell in love with their Strawberry Chantilly Cake and its sliced almond topping. The Triple Chocolate Truffle Cake also looked amazingly delicious. I ended up purchasing a Small Fruit Tart to enjoy as a dessert for dinner alongside some sushi I also bought there. Although they have a small seating area with a few tables and a microwave for anyone wanting to dine in, I decided to take my treats inside the shopping center to eat at the marble tables and chairs. My cashier, Malikai, was friendly, efficient, and made the checkout process incredibly smooth and fast. Paying with Google Pay was a breeze. I highly recommend this high-end grocery store! It is on the pricier side, but absolutely worth it for the excellent quality and customer service.

Self check out is the only real option here as well, there are a couple full service registers open at any time, but multiple self check out stations (a lot) always open. The only redeeming grace of the cake was that it did taste good! It was moist and fresh. I did not pick the cake up and my cousin did not know exactly what the cake was supposed to look like. She did complain about the cracks and Kroger did give her a $10 discount. She picked up 45 mins before the party started so there was not an option for a do over anyway. After my moms party, I personally went to Lakeside Kroger and spoke to the manager. I showed her the cake pictures and explained what I had asked for. My time here at the Roanoke Co+Op was brief, as I spent about 1/2 hour or so looking around and purchased a couple of snack items. The store is one of the largest health and natural food resources in southwest Virginia. It reminds me of my own local natural health food stores in Honolulu but not Whole Foods. It's a quintessential supermarket store that houses a lot of natural food resources that you typically won't find in your larger local grocery stores. They're typically a place where health is impactful and natural foods are the way to build your own lifestyle here in Southwest Virginia. The store itself is not that large but they have a lot of great items to choose from. During the time I was here around 3pm, it wasn't terribly crowded so it was nice to be looking around and seeing what Roanoke Co+Op has to offer. I ended up grabbing healthy snacks and paid cash for them. Healthy chips and healthy drinks other than commercial soda drinks are helpful when you want to maintain weight while maximizing your food options here and supporting local businesses. It was a cozy experience though. The staff here is friendly and knowledgeable about a lot of things, specifically how to live a balanced healthy life. We all sure could be more concerned and cognizant about what we eat and how food affects our bodies. Natural foods help bridge that gap with that and the Roanoke Co+Op helps and reminds us of all the natural healthy foods we can incorporate into our diets on a daily lives. It's always nice to find good sources here or wherever your travels takes you. I'm glad my travels took me here and helped me with my snacks and dinner options on a balmy Thursday in March 2026. I enjoyed my time here at the Roanoke Co+Op and hopefully you will too on your next trip here to shop at the Roanoke Co+Op. The overall experience here at the Roanoke Co+Op natural foods store was very good and pleasant. It gave me a chance to wind down during my travels and help myself with meal planning during my stay in Roanoke, even if it's for a night. There was not much of an air conditioning system that kept me and others cool and comfortable. I enjoyed looking at all the different products on the shelves and price compared a lot of things while I was roaming through the aisles that Thursday March afternoon. The prices can be a little more than average, which is typical of natural wellness stores versus the chain supermarkets. You come here because you want to be here and are focused and laser driven on a healthy purposeful life. That is what gets me going every single day I live. The prices doesn't mean much if you don't have health. The store itself is very organized and definitely is amazing. It has everyday items for anyone and everyone who needs healthy food and snacks while having other non edible items for active lifestyles. Regardless of how your lifestyle looks like, the Roanoke Co+Op has what you are looking for. I could have purchased more stuff here but I couldn't use everything during my stay in Roanoke and had to pack it in my luggage, Which was already packed to the max. Even then, my experience here at the Co+Op was very good and happy that I was here. Recommended if you're in the Roanoke area and want to be on top of your health and lifestyle. The Roanoke Co+Op health and natural wellness store is located in Roanoke, Virginia in the Grandin neighborhood. It's physically situated at 1319 Grandin Road SW. They accept major credit cards as well as cash. As far as parking goes, they have a small but limited parking spaces for yall who drive. For myself who take public transportation as much as I do, bus routes 65 and 71 passes the Grandin neighborhood and stops nearby. So you can walk from there and to the Co+Op, which isn't far from the bus stops. There's always Uber and Lyft for anyone and everyone who needs that. I ended up walking to the Grandin neighborhood from the 3rd Street Bus station exchange that afternoon because I had time to kill and tried to save a little bit of money. It was money well saved and spent it while shopping at the Co+Op instead. They have a hot bar, where you can buy your lunch and dinner by the lbs. One of these years when my travels permit me to return to Roanoke, I will be able to come back and have lunch or dinner here at the Co+Op. Recommended if you're in the area and want to eat and be healthy. 5.0 stars for the overall experience. Support local! A+

This makes it less excusable that the store just didn't seem to be fully stocked. The produce section was a small corner of the store. Prepared foods was a much bigger entrant, as was the freezer section. The lack of fresh items seems contrary to the health food vibe. On the upside, you'll struggle to find a place that has more niche brands with vegan, gluten-free, and other specialty items. The local focus is also appreciated. On the downside, I was surprised how expensive it was, and that's with shopping the sale items and the $1 credit I apparently picked up by shopping at the Roanoke Earth Fare. We are to expect 4 to 8 inches of combined snow and sleet, ice accumulation, and dangerous travel conditions with wind gusts up to 35 - 40 mph. After receiving the above information from the weathercasters of Channel 10 local news, I decided to go shopping for food, water, and essentials to weather the storm. Asking around, on the day before the storm would reach us, I was told that Walmart's shelves were almost all cleared out, and not to bother going there. My friends advised me to go to either Food Lion or Kroger. I decided to go to the Vinton Kroger, knowing by experience how well managed this Kroger is and how they do an excellent job of keeping their shelves stocked. When I arrived, their parking lot was pretty full, but still had some parking spaces available to park. As I parked and approached the entrance, their American flag flew high above under a beautiful blue sky with white clouds. Inside, I was able to walk around with my shopping cart and find all the essentials I needed to weather the storm. From frozen ready-made foods, easy to prepare, to bread and cold cuts, to even milk and water, that oftentimes are the first things to run out in supermarkets during inclement weather. I asked one of the employees for directions of where to find the little glass bottles of Starbucks Coffee and she immediately gave me the aile number. Another employee helped me reach the toilet paper that I wanted that was on a shelf too high for me to reach. They even had the cereal that I like that oftentimes even in good weather the other supermarkets run out. The clerk at the cashier's counter was very efficient checking out all my merchandise, and the bag packing attendant in quickly packaging all my item and nicely placing them back into my cart. In Vinton, they also don't charge you for the bags, which they do in Roanoke. As I was taking my groceries to my Lexus, cars stopped to allow me to cross over to the parking lot. I quickly placed all my items in the trunk of my Lexus and pushed the cart back to one of those cart stations in the middle of the parking lot. As I was leaving the parking lot I saw behind me how another car was paking in the parking space I had just left. I thought to myself how grateful I was to the management and staff of this Kroger in particular for being so efficient that allowed me to shop, like if nothing out of the ordinary was going on.
