It is conveniently located to the university nearby and on a main strip with lots of other stores. I was impressed by a unique item in the produce section where they are growing herbs and you can snip them and put them right in a bag. I didn't see any grow lights so I'm going to have to assume these plants were grown elsewhere and then just placed in this mini garden area but it is a cute idea. I also noticed that all of the shelving is pretty low. I don't think there were any shelves taller than maybe 5 feet because I could see from one end the store to the other. It's a pretty nice grocery store and the staff is also particularly very friendly.

I particularly like their meat department. My local Food Lion has the worst beef and Walmart has the best. Their return policy is lenient and fair, and frankly I have found the employees at both the one in Hickory and the one in Morganton to be knowledgeable and helpful. Maybe I'm friendly to them, and they in turn go out of their way to help me. Managers seem ready to assist as well. Anyhow, what I really like about Walmart is the new delivery system. I have an account. I fill my cart throughout the week and when I reach $35, and it's usually more, I push Paypal and Voila! In two days my items are on my porch. For cosmetics, like Loreal mascara, which is ALWAYS sold out of Carbon Black, this is the solution. For the tea I like and breakfast biscuits, I can't reach them on the top shelf, so this solves that problem too. I realize I sound like a commercial, or someone who is hired to promote Walmart on Yelp, but I assure you I am not. I just noticed that people will take the time to write complaints, but few people will take the time to compliment what a store is doing right. ALDI isn't your regular American supermarket and there are a few key differences that help them keep prices down. Starting off with, you'll need to bring a quarter in order to borrow a shopping cart. You'll get it back when you return the cart. The merchandise is a wide variety but they don't have everything and they generally don't have more than one of an item. A few name brands here and there but usually ALDI's generic brand. Note that the quality is similar. At the register, the cashier scans the stuff and then puts it right back into your cart. You're bagging it yourself, making your time at the register faster. You can buy ALDI bags or bring your own. Or you can find a few cardboard boxes from the sales floor for free. There was a time that ALDI didn't accept credit cards but they do know. Easy, inexpensive (not cheap) and a good shopping experience. Enjoy! What a difference from our Walmart here in Denver. The store was not crowded on a Friday morning and had everything we came out to buy that day. The biggest difference was the employees. Every one we passed or passed us was smiling and most said hi and ask how we were doing. An older gentleman stocking one of the isles we were on chatted with us a few minutes. Try and find that in the Denver Walmart! Most of the employees at the Denver Walmart have a I hate my job/my life/the world look on their face and never speak to customers not even the door greeter which is what he/she gets paid to do! Even though the Denver Walmart is only 7 miles from our house, we avoid it when we can because its always very crowded with inconsiderate people blocking isles to talk, cutting in front of you with their carts and long check out lines because only 3-4 of the 30 check out lanes are open with lines backed up in to the store and on top of that there is always some kind of problem that ties up the line and makes for an even longer wait to check out. Here there was no wait to check out and it was a breeze compared to the Denver Walmart. After this experience I think my wife and I will plan to do our grocery shopping here after our weekly breakfast at Dick's .
