I normally love to shop here. Yesterday I had the most rude check out lady. I bought six 2 liter cokes. When the lady was checking me out she said just get one out of cart. Then ask me if I wanted bags for the drinks. I said yes and she threw them on the counter like to say bag it then. Who is going to take 6 drinks out without bags? read more

First let me tell you what I DO like about Food Giant. I truly enjoy that I can get products at Food Giant that our local Wal-Mart doesn't carry. I also appreciate that I rarely have to wait in line longer than a minute or two (and that's rare) and that they have baggers who carry your groceries to your car unless you choose otherwise. Yes, their prices are a little high - but - I don't mind paying a few more cents to avoid the insanity of the supercenter down the street. What I don't appreciate about Food Giant is the deli department. Yes, I love their chicken, yes, I love their catfish. What I don't love - the staff behind the deli counter. I have purchased food from their deli at least 30 times. I have NEVER, not once, had a truly positive experience at the deli. Generally, I am completely ignored until they finish whatever task they are currently working on (sometimes a customer, usually some task for the deli itself). I am never greeted, never told, "I'll be right with you," never given apology after waiting for sometimes as long as five minutes (once even longer). At one particularly bad visit, I had waited for over five minutes for the counter clerk to finish what she was working on, when another customer walked up beside me who happened to be a friend of the clerk's. Despite the fact that I had waited there (and had clearly been seen), she began a conversation with said customer, THEN proceeded to take their order, and fill it. If my husband hadn't been wanting their catfish so desperately, I would have walked out immediately. But I didn't. That catfish is pretty awesome. But, seriously, they need to work on their service and attitude. I also have found that you really have to watch food from the freezer section - particularly ice cream. It's almost always covered with an icy layer and has an odd texture. I thought maybe it was a temporary issue, but after several different purchases, I have simply stopped buying ice cream (or pizza) there. I would like to add another positive note to the review. Despite the poor service from the deli. I do generally receive amazing service from the baggers, and the boys who restock (who will help you in the aisle and even ask if you need assistance, as well as answer any questions you may have). The checkout servers are touch and go - when they aren't busy talking to their friends, they are usually friendly and good at their job. read more

The deli counter has decent food but sometimes it is hit or miss on the fried chicken, livers and gizzards. But the staff is friendly and helpful and will let you know if something has been overcooked as is the case often with livers and gizzards. Some food prices are a little high but the hot deli is reasonable in price. It's a small downtown grocer independent employee owned store. Lot of good prices for the most part, albeit a limited selection do to being a small store. However if you are looking for something they don't carry just ask and they'll try and get it for you. They still offer paper or plastic and carry out your groceries for you and they don't break your eggs or smash your bread. Give them a shot you won't be disappointed.
