About two weeks ago, I came here at night with my friend after not visiting for a while. We ordered the grilled mackerel with miso and fried gyoza. The mackerel tasted unusually sour, and the filling in the gyoza seemed off. When we asked to speak with the chef, we happened to see a male staff member walking into the women's restroom with a female staff member. We ended up waiting about 10 minutes, and when someone finally came to talk to us, it was the same man who had just gone into the restroom with the female staff member. To our surprise, he was the chef. Between the condition of the food and that situation, it made us seriously question their hygiene standards. Huge portions!! No frills, mom and pop shop recommended by fellow Yelper Azurine! The ramen is something I have never tried before. It had a thicker broth consistency and almost a little sweet and the egg omelet on top was also pretty interesting. Definitely large enough to share. We also got the fried liver which has the gaminess you have to like, but the crisp is there - leaning more towards the extra fried to me. We stumbled upon this spot for ramen and were pleasantly surprised! The portions are great. They give you plenty of broth, and the ramen itself is really tasty. We shared the ramen and some takoyaki (which were decent), and it was more than enough for the two of us. It breaks my heart to write this review, since I loved this place since I was a kid, but it is true this restaurant has changed ownership and has taken a downturn for the worst. I came with a friend and this place scarred them LOL To get seated, it was relatively quick - no line no waitlist and the restaurant was relatively empty. Once we were seated, is when everything started to unfold. We were seated, but never tended to. Everything we wanted, we had to flag down a waitress to get - this included ordering water, food ordering, and getting the bill. Once we placed our food order, I am not joking, but it took almost 40minutes to come out... it took so long that I even witnessed a couple get up and walk out since the service was so bad. The place seems dysfunctional because even after the couple left and told the restaurant host, another waitress still came out to deliver their food about 10 minutes after they left. The wait time was an issue at multiple tables, and the table next to us even had to remind the waitress of something they ordered because it never came out. Not to mention the kitchen is playing loud music which is bleeding into the dining room! My friend and I were patient, but were ultimately disappointed on the food delivery. My friend ordered chicken curry rice and ,I kid you not, the curry was red and tasted like spaghetti sauce. I ordered the Pork Omelet Curry and it tasted good but was nowhere to par with how it used to taste nor how it was portioned before. We even asked the waitress why the 2 curry's were starkly different and she didn't know the answer, nor did she offer to bring out a side of a different curry. The experience got worse, believe it or not. When requesting the bill, the waitress brought the bill over and asked for cash or card. We responded by card, but shortly after she said the card machine just broke and that we would have to pay cash or Zelle. Never in my restaurant visitation tenure have I zelled a restaurant before... but there's always a first. The waitress brought out a phone number to zelle, and the account name was a person's name not a business name. They have a cozy no-frills interior with mostly 4-person seats. 7:30pm on a Saturday was packed wit people but the wait isnt too long. The staff was busy, but attentive. I love this place! It's a must for me. It does get pretty crowded during the weekends but it's well-worth the wait! The parking lot is small since the dining area is small but it's honestly so worth it. I love the creamy ramen as it's super unique and the broth is rich. Background On Visit: Felt a bit hungers after moving furniture around. So we decide to replenish our reserves at FFT. Visitation Rights: Probably patronize the shop 2-3 times in the past. Appetizer Of Choice: They didn't offer kaarage on the menu, so we decided to get the Takoyaki instead. Thought it was tasty and the mayo and takoyaki sauce enhanced the eating experience. A very low key mom and pop ramen and curry spot off the beaten path in a commercial area. I know this is a popular local place and finally got to try the ramen. Ordered #17, the Nan Chatte as this is the most popular ramen so tried it. The soup is creamy with a hint of sweetness so that's new for me. Our family used to come here all the time and it is one of our favorite restaurants that's known for unique ramen flavor, consistent quality and generous portion. The chefs retired and sold to a corporation and everything drastically went downhill. First thing we notice was they increased the price. The service is non existent. The new waitress took our order and 30 minutes later, she realized she forgot to put it in. Fine we'll wait because we know the food will be good but nope. The broth lacks depth and flavors, even salt. It was bland and flavorless. We placed an order of appetizer too and after 40 mins, they came out to tell us the they ran out of tofu. Mind you this is 5pm on a Friday and they open til 9pm. When the check came, their machine is "down" so only take cash or Zelle. Took forever for them to come back and give me cash back change so we just left. While waiting, I was watching the speed of the kitchen. There were 3 people (wouldn't call them chefs) in the kitchen and took them 30-40 minutes to pump out 1 bowl of ramen for another table. They look like me trying to create a new recipe on my kitchen that I have to read the menu and follow step by step. That tells us everything we need to know. The experience we had recently is day and night compared to what it used to be. Once a great restaurant that we would drive out of the way for, now I wouldn't even step foot in it. I did not even know they reopened again until the rents mentioned it. Same location as I remembered from...gosh, was it over 10 yrs ago? Sheesh, time flies. Unlike before, there was no huge line out the door. We came closer to closing, 1ish. The same menu was on the side of the wall. We were greeted and seated right away. I ordered what I used to order before, #17 Nachatte Tonkatsu Ramen to split so I could order some apps too. Tempura mixed, and gyoza. They don't pan fry the dumplings like before, where it comes out like a flying saucer. They are individually pan fried like normal but still very tasty and with a lightly crispy bottom. The ramen was just how I remembered. Piping hot, which is rare in a ramen place when ordering tonkatsu based soup. Noods were al dente, just how I like it, and very slurpable. Pork slice was tender and flavorful. A bit too fatty for DD. The soup wasn't too heavy that we both did a great job down the soup. Tempura was crunchy and vegetables were tender. If you want to avoid a long wait, get there right at opening or just before, there's always a line, and for good reason. I ordered the Kimchi Ramen with Pork Chashu, and it was absolutely delicious! We went here last night for the first time in about 2 years. I'm not sure what happened here. This place used to be so good with a waitlist everyday. Gyoza used to be bomb, waitstaff spoke Japanese, food was delicious. We arrived at 7 thinking we definitely had to wait for a table for seven people, but we walked right in and the place was pretty much empty. We were there until close to 9 PM and still pretty much empty (and zero pick up orders either). The food was about a 2 on a scale of 1 to 10 and the gyoza is not even close to what it used to be. I've been wanting to try Foo Foo Tei for a while but never was in the area/was free during their off hours. They are located in a bit of a residential street with a few other businesses (the other popular sushi place some blocks down is Akasaka Sushi), so eating here for me becomes an intentional drive here. The food itself was great and gave me home-cooked dish vibes. The seafood ramen was packed with fresh veggies and a few shrimps and clams and the ramen itself was very flavorful. The squid was very fresh and not rubbery tasting at all, it was a great pick. #31, which was a fried ramen with gravy + veggies was an interesting dish, and reminded me of chinese fried chow mein. I wouldn't recommend the mini tuna bowl ($13) even if it's a dollar off with an order of ramen - there was 3 slices of tuna and it tasted like previously frozen water. I was probably better off ordering the mini chicken or tempura bowl. Overall Foo Foo Tei was a great try in my opinion, and would like to come back to try the other items in their 100+ menu read more

I went on a Friday for lunch and there wasn't a line so I was glad we were able to be seated right away. Usually the lines get long on weekends so I highly recommend going on weekdays if possible. Every time I come here, I always get the Ten-Shin ramen and Fried liver. The ten-shin ramen is packed with flavor and if you like thick broth, this one's for you. The fried liver is also a classic and paired with the sauce that's on the side is also a hit. This time I also tried the squid which I thought was very flavorful and well cooked! Foo Foo Tei is almost hidden and it's not part of a busy street so it's nice to know there's plenty of parking space outside of the internal parking. The inside feels like you're in someone's kitchen enjoying a nice meal. It's pretty small, but it definitely gives a more intimate vibe. read more
