I have 2 young boys with sensory needs, where I was apprehensive of taking them to a salon/barber. However, we wanted them to both learn the social skills of doing regular things in our community.....and finding a barber with sensitivity for their personality differences seemed like a good start! Craig and the other fine stylists at Foltos' were a great fit, where the boys loved the calming shop with a hip vibe from Day 1. The staff all have wonderful patience, and even the other customers do not seem to mind the random outbursts. It had been 20+ years since I stepped foot in Craig's place. Why? For 20+ years I shaved my head then about a year ago, my wifey said " let your hair grow out and let's see what happens". So I did and it grew! Kind of like a Chia Pet but more out of control. Remember Shaggy on Scooby Doo? Yep, that was me! So then the wifey says "you should get a trim.....". So being a good husband and always wanting to please, I go in and must say all the hair on the floor from the day before kind of turned me off. Pay no attention to the millennial scum who left bad reviews ("elderly" fellow?). Greg Foltos and his rotating cast of distaff colleagues give great haircuts (okay, sometimes the sideburns don't match big deal) and even better life experience. Sit in one of the chairs (barber or visitor) for any amount of time and it is clear that (a) they don't make barber shops like this any more (at least not in white neighborhoods) and that (b) Greg is a community lynchpin. He has a coat drive every year, he knows everyone, he has a helping hand for anyone who needs it, and the conversation is stimulating and intelligent. I have nothing but fantastic things to say about Chris. She has given me a fantastic cut and really knew how to get what I was looking for. My hair always looks great when she cuts it. The atmosphere is an old school barber shop and I'm a fan of the aesthetic. I brought my daughter the first time I came here and they were kind to her. They had toys that she could play with and gave her a sucker. That's definitely a plus! I usually come when there isn't anyone else so I haven't experienced the lively conversations that other people have mentioned. They have always been extremely friendly and welcoming to me. I've never done a yelp review, and I think when people do them it's one of three things . A 1 star because it's bad, a 5 star because it's good or even mediocre, and then a 4 star because a 5 star is suppose to be perfect. Well this one star has a good reason, and the reason being is I got screw. Before I went I did my hair so they could get an idea of what it looks like when I walked in. I told him "I want it just a little shorter" and when I saw how he was handling the scissors that's well I knew I made a mistake. The man had tremors and while I can't diagnose him he literally said so himself when he was talking later on to another customer. But back to the beginning. After I said a little shorter he didn't hold his fingers up to confirm where to cut which was a major red flag . And he cut off 2/3 of my hair on the first cut. While that may not seem all that bad if I have short hair I don't, I have a middle part that flows with length. By the end of the session I can confidently say two things. 1 I have officially experienced a bad haircut and 2. I've never cried over such a stupid thing in my whole like. (I'm an 18 year old man with showing emotions, as in you should see me on Christmas; I have to fake it on the outside). I've been thinking about this haircut all day and I couldn't get it out of my mind. I got it cut August 27th at around 3:40pm and I am currently typing this up at 2:58 am on the 28th (about 12 hours) and I leave in 3 days for college. I would like to genuinely thank the old man for screwing it up so badly because it helped me learned to not show too much emotion by screaming. And a thanks to my dad for making me get haircut. Not to mention but the end result didn't even look good. I may be upset that it wasn't what I wanted but he didn't even do a good job of screwing it up. Edit- I've read three comments so far saying the exact thing that happened to me saying it was uneven, crooked, and felt rushed. While you probably will have a good experience, just remember if you like your hair a certain way then don't expect the old man to do a top job. read more

Foltos has been a mainstay in Batavia for many years. I've received good haircuts the three times I've been there, although the owner himself can be a bit odd at times, which was a disappointment and what kept Foltos from getting 4 stars. For just a medium regular fade, it cost me $20 (not including the tip). I'm used to paying far less than that, but I guess thats the standard a barber charges nowadays vs. some place like Great Clips, who charged me less, but consistently screwed up a simple medium regular fade. On one particular visit, the main thing that turned me off was the owner, Mr. Foltos. Maybe it was just that day I happened to walk in he was feeling a certain way, but some of his comments were completely inappropriate for the setting. A guy next to me practically lept out of his chair, paid for his haircut and left after the bizarre conversation. Mr. Foltos is friendly no doubt and the two ladies who cut my hair definitely knew what they were doing, I would just recommend he's more careful about what he says in the future, so he doesn't scare off any other customers (especially in this economy). Avoiding topics such as politics, religion and sex should be commonsense. I should point out that out of my three visits, the owner's bizarre comments only occurred once, so its not like its happened every time I've been there. I love the owner. I recently moved from out of state and still had/have hair issues post chemotherapy. I was really scared to have someone cut or style my unstylish hair. He made me feel very comfortable and he was kind enough to lie to me when he told me "It doesn't look nearly as bad as you think." ): His positive attitude and sense of humor are very endearing.
