Ah Fogherty's, where the men are men, the women are men, the music is loud and happy-go-lucky merrymakers will offer you liquorice allsorts from their pockets. Despite appearances, it's not a rough local that should be avoided. You could be dressed as a flamingo here before anybody asked why.
Tucked just off that barren section of Smithdown Road that acts as a buffer between the bridge and Penny Lane, Fogherty's Pub is a place where you can brazenly barge in, sit in somebody's favourite seat, then minutes later be debating with them over what would win in a fight between a shark and a tiger.
The middle-aged bands that play here are always good for a listen. Belting out classic covers and songs they've written on a coffee break, they make up for the fact they're ear-canal-bustingly loud by being really rather good to boot. The young whippersnappers could learn a thing or two from the fogies at Fogherty's. read more
