Wishing I did not have to write this review, but I do want to share my honest experience of our…read morerecent visit to Capital Vet Specialists. I called the clinic at 1:30am after we found our sweet girl so sick. It is a 24/7 ER and the first one that picked up their lines. They were upfront on costs from the start letting us know they it is 188 for the vet to evaluate here. We rushed to the hospital and as soon as we arrived they jumped into action. The nurse came charging out and carried my baby girl back. They immediately started doing what they could to help. Throughout the 18 hours my girl was in their care they exhibited clear, honest, and transparent communication. From the start, the gave us an estimate on what we could expect cost wise. I appreciated how they gave us the highest range, so we could get the worry of cost out of the way. They do this so that they don't need to keep calling asking if they can do x,y,z. Anything they don't need, they refund to you. When health tragedy is at hand, no one wants to be worried about cost and I think they have a great system for maintaining a clear process on payments. I want to give special thank you to the night Vet Dr. Izeman or Eisman ( i dont know the proper spelling). He showed us great empathy and compassion and treated my girl with the utmost care. I am heartbroken to share that we lost my bestfriend, but I do want to acknowledge that Dr. Izeman and his nurses gave us the the space we needed and helped us each step of the way. Although I hope you never need to, I would certainly recommend brining your fur babies here for any overnight emergency.

I had to take my 14-year-old dog here recently due to some seizure-like symptoms and was struck -- even in my anxious state -- by how clean the waiting room was (a feeling that continued with the waiting rooms). A nurse came out to check on my dog even as I was first talking with the person at the reception desk. The nurse was fantastic overall, and I hate that I can't recall his name; he was so sweet with our dog and compassionate with us. With regards to costs, we knew that emergency care was expensive, but he was clear that they come up with the "maximum option" for a diagnostic/treatment plan by default and that there would be plenty of ways to work together to trim back the plan if necessary (which I prefer to a "bottom line" plan that ends up needing a lot of additions). The veterinarian was also kind, knowledgeable, and clear when we spoke to her -- she didn't get overwhelmingly technical with us, nor did she talk down to us. Overall, as we were the only ones there that night, we were in and out within 90 minutes, and that's with consultations, testing, and the time it takes for test results. The office is kind enough to have some snacks, bottled water, and coffee available for families, which was comforting. We didn't get any long-term questions about what caused my dog's event solved here, and I wasn't expecting to. I took her to rule out any emergency causes, and that's exactly what they did for us. They were also very transparent about what should be done that night and what could safely wait for a regular veterinary appointment. I hope I don't have to come here again, but I will feel absolutely confident about returning here with my pets if I ever need to. They clearly care about pets -- and their human families.

Knowing something wasn't right, we called our vet immediately. A huge thank you to Dr. (Mrs &Mr) Timberlake at Southeast Veterinary Hospital, who got us in the very next day. They identified the issue and performed a biopsy that same afternoon. Once the results came back, they immediately referred us to Dr. Darrow at ECoVets Veterinary Specialists. On April 13th, we had our consultation with Dr. Darrow to discuss the biopsy results and next steps. Blood work and X-rays were completed that same day, followed by a CT scan on April 14th. Just three days later, she was in surgery. Everything happened so fast, but the team knew exactly what was best for sweet Kirby girl and adjusted their schedules to act quickly and kick cancer to the curb. To say we are thankful and beyond grateful is a massive understatement. We will never be able to fully express our gratitude, though I think they could tell how happy we were at our follow-up appointment! To the entire staff at ECoVets Veterinary Specialists--the doctors, nurses, front desk, surgery scheduler, and everyone behind the scenes--thank you. From the initial consultation through surgery and the follow-up calls, your care and compassion have been absolutely top-notch. The best news: We got clean margins! By day 6 of recovery, Kirby was determined to eat on her own. After a lot of rest during the first 10 days, we've now fast-forwarded to week 4, and she is doing amazing. She is back to barking, playing with her brother, eating her soft food, and carrying around her soft toys (her babies). She is adjusting beautifully to her new little mouth, and we are truly amazed by her resilience. None of this would have been possible without Dr. Darrow and his incredible staff. We were so lucky to have such an amazing team of doctors and nurses in our corner. Thank you all so much! -- Kirby, Christi, and Jason Powell

The staff was welcoming and friendly when we arrived. We were immediately taken back to a room that was very clean and bright. The staff member who came to speak to us first was great, took time to listen and also try to help my anxious dog feel better. She took Magnus back for his exam and he was brought back by the neurologist, Dr. Kim. The doctor took time to explain everything thoroughly and answer questions. The first staff member returned to go over additional medication instructions and answer any questions. The visit was reasonably priced as well. Very glad to find this pet ER and specialty vets not too far from home.

We arrived before 11pm. My dog has a bacterial infection. How do I know this? Well he gave it to my husband and I. When we told the nurse this she immediately got defensive. We then proceeded to get a fecal test done to which the nurse got facies on her and then continued to spread it all over our dog and the table and never sanitized anything. After all of that and the tests were run we were told it is a bacterial infection, they don't know what kind of bacteria, and if we pay an additional $1000.00 they could find out. However, the estimate was for X-rays and other excessive things. The vet Johnson NOT doctor was not only unhelpful, but uneducated. Everyone there cares more about lining their pockets than animal care. We ended up just taking antibiotics and leaving with a $415.00 bill. Our dog is still sick, no one at the vet was helpful and it's at the price of a 15lbs dog.

To make a long story short he diagnosed my pet with one thing (pretty much a death sentence) and never checked more than that. I left a message that he was vomiting blood still no call back. I went to another vet THANK GOD. He had pancreatitis was treated and is doing well. I expected he would receive a compassionate evaluation and, if appropriate, humane euthanasia. Instead, Dr. Johnson barely looked at the dog, appeared more concerned about catching fleas than providing care, and dismissed the situation entirely. Rather than offering empathy or solutions, he lectured me that I should take the dog home and try to find the owner -- an absurd suggestion given the dog's obvious condition. The lack of compassion and professionalism was shocking. In my opinion, Dr. Johnson should not be practicing veterinary medicine. I strongly advise others to seek care elsewhere. I requested that Dr. Ronald Greshake the owner of Vet-I-Care Animal Hospital contact me but I never heard from him.
