However, during the run part of my workout which is stride training, the associate approached me to tell me that I was approaching the edge of the treadmill which was causing a squeak which is a sign to tell me that I'm getting close to falling off in a condescending manner. This is common in stride training and only happened about 2 times during the beginning of the stride. I was being conscious of this as I always am when I go to an open gym but this is the first time I've been approached by an associate at a location and it just didn't sit right with me. I did not engage in a conversation and instead simply said okay already knowing it wasn't going to happen during the remainder of my workout and it did not.

However, it was recently brought to my attention that a friend of mine on Facebook had signed up for a 6 month contract and ended up with a one year contract. I was even more appalled when OTHER people complained of the SAME thing. I obtained what I thought was a one year membership. 7 months into my membership I called their office and explained I was moving soon and wouldn't be able to use the gym anymore. I was curious to know if there was a way I could cancel the membership. I understood when he told me I would have to continue with my membership seeing as how I did sign a contract. However, when he mentioned my 2 year contract I was blown away. I then explained to him I was only supposed to have a one year membership. I would not have knowingly signed a 2 year contract, especially since this was my first time to use a gym! He went on further and explained that the only way I could get out of the membership was if I became physically disabled or if I die. Then in his best surfer dude voice said, "there's nothing else I can do brah." So, one day I decided to go meet with management and explain to him my predicament. I told him the situation and gave him the woman's name who did my membership. Apparently she was fired for giving away free tanning. So, I couldn't even properly confront this lady about how my contract got messed up. Needless to say I ended up just paying for the second year membership. I was young and naive in thinking that this world would do good by you if you did right by it. I did learn 2 valuable lessons 1. Anytime Fitness in Brandon is a tart for money. 2. Don't expect someone to do their job correctly and morally. Read your contract, double check it send it to a dang lawyer before you sign it. Anytime Fitness in Brandon Ms. Should be ashamed of using these tactics. It is even more shameful that they are STILL doing this and no reprimand has been bestowed upon this business. I just wanted to share my story, seeing as how recently it has come to my attention that I am not the only one that has been figuratively screwed by this establishment.

I have been a regular at the Flowood Y for three years. I strength train there three days most…read moreweeks and do all my cardio the other 3-4 days per week if the weather keeps me indoors. The equipment is very well maintained and extensive. The indoor lap pool is very nice and not crowded during most of every day. The staff is amazing in all parts of the facility. I am not generally a group exercise fan but, if you are, the Flowood Y is your place to be. HIIT, Zumba, Yoga, Mat Palates, Reformer Palates, Body Sculpt, Step Aerobics, Spin, Barre, Kickboxing, Water Aerobics ... probably 100 classes per week--all included in your basic membership. I am also not a parent but know that the Flowood Y has child care (included with family membership) for your children age 6 months to 12 years, for up to 90 minutes a day while you work out. The only thing keeping me from 5 stars is the lack of a steam room, dry sauna, massage or laundry service but hey--its a YMCA--not Equinox. As Katie said, it is one of the nicest YMCA's you will ever see and at a small fraction of the Equinox price. Frankly, if you like any form of group exercise and/or are towing a kid around, I can't imagine you going anywhere else in Jackson, Madison, Ridgeland, Flowood or Brandon.

He was hesitant to try, but I found Grapple after evaluating our local options online and showed him their social media. He was immediately interested. I'm very glad I found Grapple and that I reached out to the owner, JC, for my son to attend a trial class. He was very chill and personable. JC, Nicolas, and the other people in class made my son feel very welcome and comfortable, as well as encouraged him and hyped him up. He was thrilled when we left class and has been excited to go back since we walked out the door. I knew jiu jitsu would be fun and give him an outlet for his energy, but with Grapple, it's clear he's also going to gain a lot of positive influences too.
