The menu is an upmarket version of tradition pub fare, with starters from £6.50-£8.90, including soup of the day, garlic mushrooms, deep fried blanchbait, tempura vegetables, and a warm smoked salmon and prawn platter. Mains include a meat pie of the day; a range of burgers; a gammon steak; 8oz sirloin steak; locally-sourced sausages, pasta, chilli, Thai curry (chicken, prawn or vegetable); cashew, courgette and carrot pie; lamb's liver; and a "catch of the day" fish dish. For those looking for a smaller lighter meal, they do a range of sandwiches and baps, and a ploughman's. There is a board listing the desserts of the day. My friend and I had the pie of the day with mash and vegetables (£15) and a veggie burger (£12) with chips and homemade coleslaw: both came in good portions (see photographs). He was very helpful and walked me through the different ciders they had in stock and even how you could add fruit syrups to sweeten the flavor. A good selection of real ale, sets off the old beams and friendly land lady. Moving with pint in had to the large garden overlooking the south downs way (see photos) we soon had steaming masses of food arriving. My lamb with apricots and apples was sumptuous. The liver and bacon my sister had was adequate, but the fish pie was a real winner, salmon, prawns, white fish in a creamy mash. Mmmmm. By the piles of benches stacked against a barn it looks like it gets very busy in the summertime - and according to some locals it "isn't as good as it was before it was discovered" but all in all a great lunch and think it is a great find. Heartily recommend, hope some other Qypers can discover it too.

There is a reasonable ca park as it gets quite hard to park in the summer. I have visited for lunch and dinner and both were very nicely presented and well cooked. The skate is very tasty and the scampi and Jenga chips are good. The costs can be a little bit higher for lunch but the menu is very similar and therefore for dinner, I thought it was quite reasonable. Peter who used to be at another Billericay restaurant is the restaurant manager and as normal makes sure we get well looked after.
