We visited on 18th July for Sunday lunch, lovely brick and flint property in a rural location, just on B3046, easy to find. A warm welcome when we got there, whole place looks welcoming on the inside, clean, lovely furnishings, contemporary style in a beautiful building. Very attentive staff and prompt service. My husband ordered Broccoli & Stilton soup to start, came in a little Le Creuset pot with lid on a bread board with two lovely thick slices of toasted bread and a pot of butter. Really hot, very fresh and tasty, broccoli was still nice and crunchy, not that mushy version you so often get. Stilton taste subtle and not too overpowering. We both ordered the 42 day dry aged rib of beef for main, most definitely the tastiest, flavoursome fantastic piece of beef I have ever had the pleasure of eating and I have tried many! The waitress asked how we each wanted the beef cooked, I asked for medium and my husband medium-rare and they were both exactly that. The beef had a slightly caramelised outside edge with lovely melt in the mouth fat and a soft texture to the meat. Came with proper roasted potatoes, mashed swede, carrots, broccoli and cauliflower which still had a bit of crunch and lovely and hot, HUGE yorkshire pudding and a really flavoursome gravy which I could of drank a glass of! Asked for a bit extra gravy, there was plenty on the plate however it was so yum I wanted more, waitress went and got it instantly in a little jug. Condiments such as horseradish and mustard available in individual preserving jars.
For puds, I had a pot of Judes strawberry tease ice cream which whilst was not made in-house was really delicious and locally sourced from just outside Winchester. My husband had treacle & toasted pecan tart, Stone's green ginger wine with pistachio ice cream, he said it was fantastic and very tasty, beautiful ginger flavour. Then I had a pot of tea, little thing but makes a nice addition, the cups were warmed and came with a bowl of rough cut brown and white sugar cubes. My husband had an tasty americano coffee, not on the menu however they knew what he meant. The whole meal and experience was fabulous, little details like the toilets being spotlessly clean with The White Company soap and personalised "The Woolpack Inn" cardboard napkin rings on soft white napkins added to the whole thing. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there and will be going back again as soon as we can!! You can eat in the bar, dining room or they have a private dining room, they also have accommodation. Lots of outside space to sit outside and families welcome too, couldn't ask for more. I wouldn't be surprised if this place earns a Michelin star........Thank you for such a wonderful meal. read more
