My family decided to move my mom from a very expensive memory care facility in California to a new facility in Texas. I was pretty freaked out about how to move my 81 year old, wheelchair bound, mom with dementia. I did a search for possible transportation and found Flying Angels. I was still skeptical of using a service I found on the internet, but I am soooooo glad I set aside my concerns and engaged Flying Angels to help with the move. Maria was so organized and on top of booking the flights, the transportation and liaised with her doctor's office for prescriptions. And her response time was immediate. Even from a different time zone. I was really impressed with her professional handling of our move. The real star was Audrey. We called her Saint Audrey by the end of the trip. She was so calm and she told my mom lots of stories and engaged with and listened to my mom's stories (whether true or not). The trip was so smooth. I was so worried, but Audrey made sure my mom was happy and calm for the entire trip, even with a layover and a second flight from Dallas. Thank you Audrey for an easy trip to my mom's new home! There are simply not enough stars to express the value Flying Angels brings to the table. I engaged Flying Angels to move my mother who has demential across the country. In spite of flight delays and her impaired cognition, Mom arrived a full 9 1/2 hours later calm and in good form. My Flight Coordinator, Sue Tressender exceeded the standard on every level. Her communications and coordination skills are excellent. Throughout the entire process, Sue was prompt, responsive, supportive and always available to answer my questions, walk me through the process and yes, allay my concerns. Sue was professional in all of her efforts. I don't think I can quantify the value that Mom's Travel Nurse, Audrey, brought to the experience. Wow. Audrey is indeed a "soul whisperer." Her interactions with my mother were nothing shy of brilliant. She was open, caring, and genuine in building trust with my mom. Indeed Audrey's expert skills and extensive experience in nursing are matched equally with her ability to connect with others -- even me. Audrey not only cared for my mother but she also was patient, attentive and supportive of me in all of my neurotic fears in this whole process. And she is a genius at distraction! After Mom's flight was delayed, she understandably became agitated. Audrey simply interrupted her for a phone call and handed her a banana. All of Mom's anxiety and agitation was swept away in laughter. Audrey's creative ease in distracting an agitated woman with dementia was absolutely genius! LITERALLY ANGELS!!!!!! I can't speak highly enough about this company. They will forever and always be a part of my family. Let me explain why. My mom was living in Portugal and I convinced her to move home. She started having severe back pain. After a month of horrible hospitals, testing, and the pain getting worse, she found out she had metastasized cancer and the bone cancer is what fractured her spine. She could barely walk and had to stay laying down because the pain was so bad. The doctor in Portugal said get home ASAP. As soon as my mom finally told me what she was going on I jumped into action and started trying to find a way to get her home. Having no idea how to help my mom being in the states with an expired passport, scared, worried, desperate for help, by the grace of God I found Flying Angels. I talked to the most wonderful, patient, helpful, kind, loving, and compassionate woman. She helped to calm my nerves, she answered every question and she jumped into action to get my mom home to be with her family. From the moment they got involved it was a blessing and when they got to her to the moment I met them at the hospital in my home town with my mom, I truly believe they were sent from God. Whether you believe in God or not, trust that you will not find a better company to help you, your loved ones or a friend. They made my mom so comfortable, they took the best care of her and got her home to me just in time for the family to be there for her as she passed away. My mom would've died alone in Portugal where she didn't speak the language and didn't really have any friends. But because of this company, my mom was showered with love and around family as she took her last breath. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE use this company if their services is what you need. I will start by saying that the Flying Angels company are an important if not critical service for the American disabled community, but more than that - they are an exceptionally well run company who presented off the bat as reliable and highly competent, and carried out this incredibly difficult transport challenge my family had, with total professionalism and precise execution of the fine details and many steps needed in my mom's transport case. I want to specifically thank Liz and Sue who took care of my mother and pulled this effort off for our family. Sue provided the logistical support, including numerous "we don't have this or that document, since she's fully disabled," and was undaunted by the vast efforts required. Liz was our flight nurse, and I'm just not sure how anyone could have done better for my mom, or been more thoughtful and conscious of all my mom's needs and experiences from Start to Finish. From the minute Liz arrived (a day early) to prep my mom and perform a long checklist of Mom's medical/prescription preparation needs, Liz owned every element of the process and coordination, displaying experience and skill, leading me to focus on more private affairs to close out my mom's previous residence contract. I was looking forward to a great vacation in Venice. Things changed quickly within 30 minutes leaving the airport. I inured my knee heading into the water taxi and was hanging out at the Venice historical hospital for a day and a half. How do I get home in a safe way? I'm on crutches and even then...it's difficult to move/function. I found Flying Angels at the very last minute! Karen was amazing on the phone! She did EVERYTHING! Flights, transportation, the RN...you name it. Chris (the RN) was amazing as well. He was very accommodating and was helpful when it came to getting from place to place. Thank you!!! Flying Angels provided outstanding service to our family in helping my father, who is 86YO with dementia and a serious heart condition, move to Tempe, AZ, from Indianapolis. Elise, our Flight Coordinator, and Chris, our travel nurse, were the answer to many, many prayers. We were so worried that my Dad would struggle to understand where we were going, or become frustrated or belligerent, but our trip was 100% successful, and we are so grateful. Elise helped us with all the advance planning, including some additional complications like my Mom's last minute decision to take her scooter, and the fact that my Dad's driver's license and passport expired years ago. She was a comforting support as we finalized travel plans, ensuring we had all the documents and arrangements in place for all aspects of our trip. Chris arrived a day before the flight to meet my Dad and do the pre-flight check. He has a great demeanor and put my parents at ease. On travel day, Chris arrived at 4am to ensure Dad was up and dressed and ready to go for a 5:15am departure. We arrived at the airport in plenty of time, and Chris even helped me when I started to panic about the logistics of 8 pieces of baggage plus two elderly people, and getting to the counter when the airport luggage cart machine was broken. We had a slight complication when the battery on my mom's scooter didn't identify what it was made of (some batteries can't be taken on airplanes), and Chris calmly and patiently worked with the counter agent to make sure everything was ok. Chris is a miracle -- he always has a Plan A, Plan B, and Plan C, and allows plenty of time for any surprises, so the whole trip was smooth. Chris and a gate agent worked together to transfer my dad to an aisle wheelchair to get him on the plane. During the flight, Chris monitored my Dad's vitals and kept him calm. My dad was even smiling on the plane! Once we landed, the ground transportation arranged by Elise was ready for us and took us to Dad's new healthcare center. Chris coordinated the intake process with the receiving facility and stayed to make sure Dad was all checked in and stable. This was an outstanding experience for all, and my mom and I can't stop talking about how relieved we are that it went well. We are so grateful to Elise and Chris! If you're weighing whether or not to use Flying Angels, you should know that it was worth every penny and more, and any hesitation we were having about feasibility of transporting Dad due to his medical conditions was completely relieved due to this outstanding company and the service provided by Elise and Chris. I was injured in Copenhagen Denmark when a speeding bicyclist ran into me, causing elbow and pelvic fractures. I had a surgical repair of the elbow in Copenhagen and was then transported home by an RN flight coordinator, Doug, from Flying Angels. Doug was very calm, competent and made everything work. There were a few glitches along the way where miscommunication between our travel medical insurer and Flying Angels and us potentially caused problems but all was fixed rapidly and I arrived home in great condition. read more

I learned about Flying Angels when needing to travel across the country with a family member that has dementia and mobility issues. I did not even know "flight nurse" was a nursing specialty. Bob Bacheler, DNP and a lot of other letters, was our nurse. Bob arranged our travel itinerary, came to town a day and a half before we were to leave. He spent time with his patient well before our departure and made us all feel comfortable about the journey we were to embark upon. He is cheerful and fun, and has an easygoing nature that made my relative with dementia trust him and like him right away. This was my first experience traveling by air with a person that has dementia. Bob's experience was priceless. As well as being a stone-cold professional nurse, Bob is also a caring individual who takes his job seriously and does it well. He is clearly interested in people and the world around him and applies the idea of "being of service" to not just his profession, but his life. Flying Angels recently moved a dear family member of ours across the country. In no time, it was clear that they know exactly how to do the job with compassion and efficiency. Flying Angels is run by folks with a background In airline service, so they knew what to expect, and we were confident in their ability to get our sister safely into the arms of family 4,000 miles away. The RN who took my sister 'back home' helped to pack her belongings and let us know when we needed to box other belongings to mail them out. That careful planning enabled them to go carry-on so there was no luggage to pick up after the flight. The wonderful RN who transported my sister texted us en route, during and after the trip so we knew it was going well. We were so grateful that she took that time to keep us apprised. By the way, they were able to give us a woman nurse to do the trip, to make my sister more comfortable if a bathroom break was needed. I'm confident in saying they would be an outstanding resource to move someone even the most challenging situation. I highly Recommend them to anyone who needs to move a loved one! read more

These folks are truly angels. In March, my family met an impossible mission to fulfill my son's last wish to visit his hometown in Ohio from west coast. Bob stood up among a few companies and accepted this challenge. He and his team worked around clock to adjust a few times to make flying to hometown very smoothly and enjoyable. Recently I moved from Santa Fe, New Mexico to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I used the services provided by the Flying Angels. I need someone to travel with me and make sure that I was in good health. They provided all that I needed in a perfect manner. I use a walker and a wheelchair to get around and they were able to accommodate my physical condition. I also had a breathing condition and was on oxygen the whole time. Nothing phased the Flying Angels. They were very attentive and anticipated my needs The trip would not have been possible if it wasn't for the Flying Angels. They even accommodated me by bringing along a separate laptop so that I could watch a movie on the plane. "Flying Angels" - well what an appropriate name for this phenomenal business! A week ago my brother was moving his family from Minnesota to Florida in their RV. My 86 year old mother was moving with them when the RV was involved in a serious car accident in a remote area of Iowa. My mom was life flighted to the nearest trauma hospital in Wisconsin. She was treated for her injuries. It was a time of crisis for us as a family. Upon discharge, we had to get my mom to her new home in Florida (versus a rehab home in Wisconsin). She wasn't stable enough to travel with just family. The hospital gave us the name of Flying Angels. Upon our first call, Karen was very compassionate about our desire to get our mom back home. Karen also worked diligently with us when we expressed concern about a current hurricane in Florida. She made sure she all flights and transits were done after the hurricane passed through. She clearly understood the nursing requirements needed for my mom to make sure she got the best service. Our actual Flying Angel was RN Doug. He was the best! Not only did he take care of my mom's healthcare needs, he texted my brother and I during each step of her journey home. My mom loved him and said he was very kind and helpful. As a family, we appreciated the great communication skills and being kept in the loop with each step of the journey. I think my biggest compliment for this organization would be - in a time of crisis, when emotions are heightened and it is hard as a family to manage millions of small details, you really need people who can step up, serve your family well, and get things done with the utmost love and compassion. It was a bit expensive but given the circumstances of our crisis - it was worth it to ensure my mom got home safely to her family after such a traumatic accident. It's no picnic finding a way to move a loved one suffering from both illness and dementia across the country. I interviewed a number of services. And without question, I chose the best one to do the job --- Flying Angels' Bob Bacheler and RN Sue Treseder were extraordinary. I mean, sure you could find a cheaper service to move someone but how would you know they'd be able to keep track of them, keep them from wandering, change their Depends, keep them happy for a five hour flight, plus waiting in line at security? How about helping a loved one to pack before the trip and negotiate with them what they'll take, so that it's not necessary to check baggage? Sue did ALL of this and more to move my sister. Honestly, my younger sister and I were thinking about doing it ourselves but we would have not been prepared, no matter how we tried. These people are experts, and they deeply care about the wellbeing of the one being moved, and the family who has hired them to do this task. This is not the kind of job you want to leave to someone driving across the country -- anything can happen. And the older they are, and the sicker they are, the more likely something will go dreadfully wrong and they'll end up in the hospital again. Consider that every time an elderly person is moved, it takes them weeks to adjust and sometimes they never make it up to the same level they were before the move. If you love someone, you need to know without question that the most professional job will be done. And there is no doubt in my mind that our money was best-spent with Bob and his Flying Angels. My infirm sister arrived across the country, rested and ready to see the family anxiously awaiting her. She was awake for the whole flight. She was not upset by the move and in no time at all she trusted Sue. Truly a Flying Angel, that Sue. At arrival Bob actually took the trouble of driving Sue and my sister out to the suburbs of Philly and make sure she was safely delivered and settled in. You cannot buy service like that -- but it is what these people provided us. And we are so grateful. read more

Flying Angels helped my dad when I wasn't sure anyone could. While on vacation in Italy, my dad was hospitalized for three months and his doctors said the only way he could be discharged back to Texas was with a medically-assisted flight. His insurance company said they would not cover the flight but offered a company (Flying Angels) to contact. I emailed Bob Bacheler on a Saturday morning to explain the situation. By that afternoon, he was already calling me, asking for more information. He coordinated with one of the flight nurses, Karen (who lives in Milan), to visit my dad the next day (a Sunday). Over the next few days, Bob and Karen coordinated with my dad's Italian medical team, my dad, and my uncle (who was with my dad) to get him home safely. By Thursday, my dad was on a flight home with Karen to a rehab facility back in Texas. Upon arrival at the facility, Karen talked extensively with my dad's new medical staff about his conditions before leaving for her hotel. Overall, my experience with Flying Angels was very positive. Everyone was quick to respond, courteous, professional, and compassionate. And in case you're curious, the majority of the expense was actually for the flights themselves, not for Flying Angels. I hope not to use them again (#sorrynotsorry), but if I did need to, I know the situation would be taken care of and done well. read more
