I have worked in the City of Hayward for over 25 years. I think I've been to this Valero station…read moreabout 15-20 times. It's not the best place to get gas. Prices are usually a bit jacked up due to it's location near Hwy 92. At night, it's dark, dirty and you feel a little unsafe. But the big negative about this station is when "pay at the pump" doesn't work. Because depending on who's working inside the snack shop, will decide the level of weirdness you might experience. If you have to pay inside, they will probably tell you to pay upfront (even with credit). So I said $35, and he said that's not enough. After awhile, that Chevron across the street looks alot better. So if "pay at the pump" doesn't work, get in your car and leave. There's a Valero at Hesperian Blvd x A Street that boasts "cheapest" gas in Hayward.

The ownership of this gas-station/Mechanic shop has changed in this last year or so. I will say the…read moreMechanics prices are clearly far higher than before; during the previous ownership. As there is no mechanic phone number displayed online you have to call the gas station front desk. The man that always picks up always seems to be in a hurry to hang up and gives you zero information about gas prices, mechanic's phone number or anything regarding. Very confused as to what that phone number even serves as. I will say, though the mechanic himself is very friendly and informative on what your car needs and is willing to form a proper relationship with you and your car. You just have to go there in person to see when he can give your car in line.

Today around 3 pm I went with my sister and had a poor experience here. As we walked in the store…read morethe cashier just stared as we walked in no greeting just stares the whole time we were there, it felt like he was just staring as if we were about to steal or something which I thought was weird but still continued to shop. I picked up some snacks and got a canned soda which I accidentally dropped, it wasn't leaking, just a minor dent on the bottom. Later I changed my mind put it back and got a different soda flavor. I put my stuff on the counter went back to get some chips and meanwhile the cashier saw an opportunity and went to get the soda I had dropped without asking scanned and insisted I had to pay for it, saying it was now unsellable. I insisted it didn't make sense what he was saying especially if the can was not leaking or open, and to show me a written policy that stated his claims and if so then I will pay for it but if not then what he was trying to enforce was not valid. So I told him I don't want anything so then he rung my sister and tried charging her the soda. When I asked for a manager, he said there wasn't one and refused to listen. Ultimately, my sister and I chose not to purchase anything and left the store. As a customer, I expect better communication, professionalism, and common sense--especially in situations like this. I hope this feedback helps improve how similar issues are handled in the future. Lost a customer won't be shopping here at all not even stopping here for gas.
