The workout was a HIIT version alternating between light/medium weights and cardio. 45 sec on, 15 sec recovery. I felt the right amount of sore afterwards to know I worked hard. I was able to do most activities or at least adjust to one's I could do. The instructor was energetic and motivating. Music was pumping up the class. We even had a well behaved puppy participant. The room was bright and well heated. Really great experience.

Gym class for me was trying to stealth to the back of the line until class ran out. I was not, and still am not, terribly coordinated. But, Aerial arts seemed like a great way to build core, and a pretty unique hobby to boot. First day of class, we trained on three apparatuses: web (basically rope from gym class); tissue (sort of like climbing on mom's curtains); and trapeze (at about 4.5' rather than atop a giant circus tent). There's no slow move into Aerial arts: we will get strong and do circus. (Xelia's motto: Get strong, Have fun, Do Circus) Yesterday was session 4 of the 10-week session. I'm sore today and likely will be for the next few days. I left class yesterday accomplishing moves I couldn't do at my last class. I finished moves I struggled with at the beginning of last night's class. That is worth all the sore muscles today. Classes at Xelia's are meant to be taken on repeat. Session I is a mix of new students and returning. We rotate in small groups among 3 coaches who spot us and offer encouragement. It's physically demanding, and if you're like me, not too keen on heights, pushes comfort zones. I am excited re-evaluate my limitations as I progress.

While being supportive, everyone is coming from a variety of places in life and ages. I like it enough that I signed up for the upcoming Spring session. It's a crazy good workout. A couple of places charge $20-22 per class and that's with a package. So, yes, please! TimeOut's barre classes are called "Behind Bars". I've only had Madeline so far. I find her a very effective fitness instructor. Even though the classes have 20-30 students, she scans the room and offers up corrections and modifications. This impresses me. I also liked the fact that there seemed to be a wide variety of ages in my barre classes rather than a bunch of 20 something year olds clad in Lululemon with fake tans unlike a certain yoga chain that I will not mention by name. I would recommend signing up for class online. Also, you get a "no show" charge if you sign up for a class but don't show up but this is pretty common with barre classes. I haven't taken the other classes yet, but I might take a pilates one to switch things up. The studio itself is also very, very nice. There are dressing rooms, hot towels, and tea. Reception area people are nice also! So, you have to sign up for an orientation which at first I was kind of bummed out. But, when I went to the orientation, I found it really helpful and the instructor seemed knowledgeable and interested in everyone. Orientation is only about 15-20 minutes so not really a biggie. I would recommend trying to fit your orientation in before a class you want to attend. I've also not had parking issues at this place either but I usually take the first class of the day.

I just could not continue to watch her chastise her instructors and clients during classes and disrespect her clients in the truly crazy emails she sends. She said she'd eject people from class if it was obvious they'd used scented laundry products! We all want to be healthy but bullying and treating us like children isn't motivating in the least. I was worried that I was a bit "advanced" in my yoga practice for this class (even though it said all levels were welcome) due to the large quantity of props we all had to pull out of the closet. But it was fun to learn new things. By the end of class, I got a nice workout, relaxed, and felt thoroughly stretched out. I'll be back!

It was a wonderful relaxing stretching class for beginners. The perfect class after a day of sitting at a computer desk all day! Since it was on my birthday I could just bring a canned good for the class. Plus they had a great discounted deal for 5 classes for $50 that I had to take them up on. I hope to become a regular here. The receptionist and Yogi were both so warm and inviting. Remembering all of the regulars names and starting conversations with everyone. Both very different but equally wonderful. The studio is in a strip mall, but once you enter the front doors it's like it's own kind of paradise. They offer free tea and water, there is plenty of cubby storage for your things, and everyone is very welcoming and helpful. The only downside is that the smaller room gets a little cramped when the class is full, but the instructors handle it in stride and makes jokes about not tickling each other's feet. I have felt a slight air of judgement a few times from others in the class, but that can't be held against the studio, and I try my best to ignore it since I'm only there for myself (they're probably just jealous of my amazing savasana skills!) This place really is a wonderful break from the world, and I'm so glad they offer the free week to try all of the classes out!

I'm stronger and more aware of my body in space. Exercises are challenging with stretches built in. Core is a small, very welcoming studio and can accomodate levels of practice from beginners to more advanced practice. I have been helped immeasurably to recover from more than one surgery. There's space to hang coats and leave shoes, and you sign in on a clipboard by the door. The space itself is warm and inviting with dark wooden floors. There are a few windows that let light in near the ceiling.
