In the CS surroundings Ellis is an alternative to the traditional fast food, offering average quality gourmet burgers for an average price. The service is friendly and fast enough and you have a considerable selection of beer which goes always well with a burger. It was packed when I visited. I enjoyed my meal when I visited this cafe today. The service was friendly and speedy which is a big deal especially when you live in NL. LOL The name of the cafe HOLY SMOKE can be quite deceiving in my opinion. I was really hoping it would be a BBQ smoke house. However, they don't smoke any of their meats. They should consider smoking their meat which will put them apart from the rest of the burger joints in Rotterdam. As of now, they are not bad at all. I find them slightly above average. The pork belly my friend ordered was so so. It was not bad but my friend didn't find anything special with it. In the other hand, the poussin another friend ordered was delicious according to him. Overall, HOLY SMOKE tries to capture the spirit of Southern American BBQ smokehouse dinner vibe. In many ways, they succeed. It reminds me a bit of the good old souther smokehouse joint you'd find in the southern states of US but much more hip and chic. It is just the flavor is lacking quite a bit. Please, if you consider opening another burger or bbq joint in Rotterdam, either smoke your meat or do something creative with your meat. :-)

Opened only six months ago, The Burger Club is one of the latest additions to Rotterdam's…read morecollection of gourmet burger joints. Last Friday, me and a couple of likeminded burger fans decided to try this relatively young establishment. We arrive at peak hour and the restaurant is in full swing. We take our seats and enjoy the bustle that is so clearly visible through the open kitchen: a well-oiled, three man machine producing fine looking burgers one after another. After placing our orders we enjoy two more rounds of beer; the waiting takes a little longer than we had expected, but then again, Friday evening most places are quite busy, and thus a bit slower. The restaurant's namesake burger "The Burger Club" is, like all other burgers here, served on a rustic wooden kitchen board. Unlike other burger places, this burger isn't served paper wrapped or with a skewer through it - it's neat and can stand upright without support. This place focuses on the meat. You can choose from either local MRIJ beef, Iberico pork or (American) Wagyu beef. Personally I think using Wagyu for a burger is just a waste, so I decide on the local beef. And although I'm not a big fan of cooking burgers on a griddle, chef Luis certainly managed to pull it off: the burger I'm served is medium rare and the patty is nice and thick. My group consists of not the smallest guys, and we realize that we're not completely satisfied and saturated: though the burgers were of great quality, it lacked a little in size. We decide on getting two servings of sliders - 2 x 3 tiny burgers of the three different types of meat - to share among the five of us. The tiny version of the Iberico burger is a nice ending to my dinner, and it's a great way to get to try the other meats as well. Although the initial order took a bit longer to get served than usual, the service was great. Hostess Nanet walks around in comfortable clothes, no stiff suit, and that is also what she's trying to reflect in the service: be comfortable and enjoy. The only downside was the size of the burgers, although I'm sure some people were very comfortable with it. I'll definitely visit again soon.

It's open early in the morning until midnight, with hours extending until 1 am on weekends. The interior was large and had a good amount of seating including some booths, it was indistinguishable from a McDonald's I'd find back home in the United Kingdom. I ordered via the touch-screen electronic ordering kiosks which have an English option and were pretty straightforward to use, prices did seem a little more here than back home, but I was happy to pay this to finally get a gluten-free bun. I was annoyed at having to pay extra for sauces, which are normally free in the UK. 75 cents extra for a sauce seems a little excessive... they did have options to save some money if you bought two sauces, but it'd have to be two of the same sauce to get a discount. This location offers table service, service seemed reasonably fast and friendly. The gluten-free bun was a great addition and the chips were hot and again indistinguishable from any McDonald's worldwide, my burger its-self wasn't the best, and didn't have as much sauce or toppings (such as onions) that I would have liked on my GF Quarter Pounder with Cheese. I ordered an Iced Tea with my meal, but unfortunately, the ordering kiosk did not state it was sparkling, so do be careful when ordering - I got a nasty surprise when taking my first sip as I dislike sparkling drinks! 3* - Not the best but certainly not too bad for a McDonald's with hot food served reasonably quickly in a clean environment.

Sad broth. Not Tensai. Tensai's broth is STRONG. The pork belly was so tender -- so unbelievably tender -- that the fake news media would never even report on it. They'd say "oh it wasn't that tender." It was that tender. It was more tender than they said it could be. Experts said you couldn't get pork belly that tender. Wrong. Don't come here if you're in a hurry. This experience may be a one-off, as the waiter apologized for the wait and brought me a free refill of the lychee soda. The noodles were fine, a substantial meal with lots of vegetables in the soup. I added some soy sauce as it was pretty bland. Next time I would ask for some of their black garlic oil.
