Nothing special about the production....and too many commercials...the cost isn't cheap either.

Even more brilliant is making all the arcade machines free play, so when you pay the $12.99 to get in, you have the opportunity to play any game your heart desires. I drank two beers while at Cidercade, their Texas Blonde and their Pistolas Mexican Lager. Both were good and easy to drink. All the arcade games have nearby areas to place your drinks so you can lock in on the games as needed. The collection of games is great and varied, from pinball machines and Japanese rhythm games to classic arcade games like Q*bert, Donkey Kong, Tetris, and more. There are racing games, Guitar Hero Arcade, rail shooters, Pop-A-Shot, skee ball, and plenty of other options. I enjoy that most of the people moving around Cidercade feel pretty sophisticated and do not get too rowdy like at other bars. Everyone is there to have a good time and chill. All the games are clean, which is crazy knowing how much beer and how many drinks are being consumed around them. A little booze in your system and playing pinball is an amazing experience, and I cannot wait to go back. RIYL: The Y2K center but you were alive in the 2000s.

The weather is usually perfect in early May, the crowd is manageable, parking is a breeze, the finish-line festival is fun, and if you can run a halfway decent pace, you'll have a good chance at an age-group medal. Quite a few "serious" runners I know refuse to participate in our hallowed Cap10k (we just had the 41st edition of that one) because it is so overcrowded with non-runners who clog up the course and make it frustrating if not somewhat dangerous for those who are working to hit a time goal. That is not much of a problem with the Sunshine Run, as the number of participants is about a 10th of that in the Cap10k. Plus, the out-and-back course (Riverside - South 1st - Cesar Chavez - Veterans - Lake Austin - Exposition turnaround) is mostly flat except that little bitty hill by the fire station. On the way back to the common finish line, there can be a few annoying moments when you have to get around the walkers who are just now finishing their 5k, but there's plenty of space to maneuver. I kind of love the level of youth participation in the race. When you sign up, you have the option to make an extra donation to support fees so that a low-income child can run the race, and I see lots of school and recreational run clubs participating in the team challenges. Back at the finish festival, there are the usual fun things: music, free food & drinks, vendor swag, photo ops, etc. Oh, and lots of adorable dogs, because the race features a "fastest dog in Austin 5k" contest. I always just pay to park in the Long Center garage with no problem, but it would be easy enough to have someone drop-off at Riverside & Lamar or at Barton Springs & South 1st.

The registration was only $25 for the 10k (6.2 miles) ....not sure how much the 5k was or the kids fun run. But anytime you find a cheap 10k you sign up for it! What really sets this race apart is that it is a race for a cause. Your entry fee goes towards summer camp tuition and fees for families that can't afford to pay. Awesome!! In addition to that, you can raise money and get swag...$50 raised gets you a T-shirt...hat...camel back thingy...more swag for how much you raise. The course begins on Auditorium Shores and stays flat except for the lil hill by Deep Eddy. It loops back around by the Cvs/Randals. The 5k makes the turn at Austin HS. I will definitely sign up for this race again! A super way to stay fit and give back.

They also have a selection of furniture, jewelry, sculptures, and works of art. Lotus Gallery is connected to West Chelsea gallery. When you walk in it has the appearance of an antique store as many of the items appear aged. The number items in the room appear greater than the amount of space. However, upon closer viewing you can tell some of these pieces are ancient and the setting is perfectly representative of the pieces. The phrase, "you break it, it's yours" comes to mind when you meander through the store. Some of the items are truly ancient and can range to over $100K. Quite honestly, even if I could afford a $100K piece, I would be petrified to be around the piece in fear of my clumsy self breaking it. Lotus gallery has garnered quite a prestigious reputation due to the uniqueness and age of their curated pieces. I enjoyed viewing their pieces and will certainly return to spend even more time in the gallery.

I'm a 3rd generation antique enthusiast and always make an effort to explore the local haunts when traveling. When I walked in I was honestly a bit intimidated. This was no flea market junk flip.. I was instead surrounded by museum quality asian antiquities, some priced at well over $100k. It felt like being inside a museum where everything just happened to be for sale. In my pre judgement bias, I became suspicious the employee would want no part of me if he thought my pockets weren't deep enough. I couldnt have been more wrong. John, the owners son, had a limitless supply patience for my questions. I was so in awe of everything around me I spent 3 hours inside the gallery that first day, asking him dozens of questions. I was charmed to find that the gallery also had smaller and more affordable pieces, literally something for everyone at almost every price point. Every variation of Buddha from every age, vases, bronzes, busts, statues, jewelry, furniture and textiles can be found here. I fell in love with and ended up purchasing a nine, yes NINE () hundred year old Chinese bronze vase from the Song dynasty. John ended up being more than willing to negotiate on the price which put it into my price range. In conclusion, you get the feeling that this store is truly a passion project for the owner and her son John. If you like old things of beauty, history, and mind boggling craftsmanship from every corner of Asia, GO. TO. LOTUS. GALLERY. -Trevor
