Midtown Garden Center, is a lovely little sanctuary located in one of the busiest areas in the city. Yes, parking might be difficult, and yes, the area isn't exactly "walkable" but once you arrive you're transported to a beautiful little rainforest with pots, plants, blooms, succulents, and even smoothies to satisfy your cravings on a hot and sunny day. Most importantly, the staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. They can always find you exactly what you're looking for and do a great job at potting for you. I am one of those stereotypical people who does an amazing job at killing plants, but everything that they have recommended for me has been spot on over the years.

I wish I remembered to take a picture of some more of items before I gave them away as gifts! I did buy a pair of astronaut earrings for a friend that loves space. While it might seem polite, my experience has taught me that when they bombard you like that, it's either because they're watching you like a thief, or they're desperate for you to leave because it's a holiday, they're closing, or they simply don't want to work. Every time I go to this Ace Store in Brickell, it is a different issue. I went yesterday and the same thing happened. As soon as I walked in, someone asked, "How can I help you?" When I explained what I needed, the employee's expression immediately soured. He looked angry and led me to a line where he called over another person who had no idea what I was talking about. That person called someone else, who then called a third person. That third person was the only one who could somewhat help, but within three minutes, he became visibly annoyed. He wouldn't listen to my explanation, ignored me, and kept looking away. When he finally understood what I needed, he made a bunch of excuses, claiming the store didn't carry it or that the item didn't even exist. In reality, it does exist and they do carry it, but he actually recommended I go to their rival, Home Depot, saying they had more variety. It is shameful that a store like Ace Hardware , which is filled with such a great variety of high-quality merchandise, hires such depressing, disrespectful, and lazy people. To make matters worse, I have to go back and return the part now because the man didn't listen to me and gave me the wrong item. When I went to pay, the cashier was too busy chatting with a coworker to notice me. She just handed me the item and the receipt without even offering a bag. When I said thank you, she didn't even respond; she just kept talking to the other employee,I I stopped at the door and said "thank you" again very loudly. The man she was talking to started laughing, and she finally said, "Oh, thanks, you're welcome, honey," only because she was embarrassed. It is honestly depressing. First, let's just get this out the way: their website (as of late 2013) is awful. It's like the internet circa 1997. Bad. But their retail location is large, pretty, with parking at both sides of their building (it's on a corner). The interior cordons off the wallpaper book "library" to the back where staff help consult shoppers like me looking for inspiration. But each time I've been there, it usually takes *several* minutes for someone to help and the staff have been more helpful than not, however English language skills are a lacking for some staff. This was less an attitude problem than a language thing. Anyway, I'm giving this a three star rating which might seem harsh, but that's exactly what I think makes sense: One Of A Kind stocks lots of wallpaper and interior textiles, with books available for research and product available for order, but it's not above-and-beyond.
