It's incredibly handy for travellers using the railway station and going to and from the Underground, and seems to be permanently busy. It has all the usual range of pharmaceuticals, other health products and toiletries, as well as snacks and food, and a range of in-store health and testing facilities (for flu vaccinations, chlamydia tests and treatment, etc). The only downside is that the low ceiling makes it feel rather claustrophobic. A new feature is 'serve and scan yourself' check-outs, which seem to work OK (or at least, after a few tries!)

It's quite spacious, with high ceilings and wide aisles (surprised they're not cramming in an extra aisle here and there). All the usuals reside on the shelves (vitamins, soaps, tissues, hair products etc) and they also have a photo area. I always consider Superdrug to be cheaper than Boots, so visit here to pick up general toiletries and make up bits. Some of the staff have been very helpful (one helped to check what they had in stock by using a zapping device, which also tells you when the next delivery will be) - Others aren't really bothered.

An independent pharmacy just near the post office at Old Street, Apex Pharmacy stocks a good range of vitamins and minerals, essential oils, some cosmetics and hair dyes and other beauty essentials. Staff are friendly and very helpful. This may not be the most attractive chemist in London but it is very, very useful, and for that I give Apex three stars.

For this you go to Boots. And other times, you just want to get in, get your advice, get your stuff and get out. And for this, you visit a shop like Judds Chemist. Judds is a super petite chemist shop on Pitfield Street (near Curious Yellow Kafe) that seriously could fit about 4 adults in it at one time. However, while small in stature they are big on satisfaction. They have a separate window for private consultations even! They have the essentials and can advise you on what ails you. On this particular visit I needed a cream for my infant son's skin and the chemist quickly suggested a generic of a certain cream, rung me up and I was on my way. Easy peasy, less than 2 minutes and only £4! I'll definitely be back when I need something close by, quick and efficient. They don't have all the bits and bobs that Boots has, but let's face it -- do we really NEED all that stuff anyway!? I probably don't!
