Sadly, within the past 3 years my family has had to lay to rest three family members at the Florida National Cemetery. Though I have not been directly connected with any planning of the ceremonies, my family members have spoke highly of the ease the cemetery has made of the situation. They do their absolute best to make sure everything flows as seamless as possible while covering the family direct needs/wants for their beloved member being laid to rest that day. Though they have many ceremonies planned each day that are timed, it is important to know that you can speak up if some additional time is needed before the end of your time. It is simple just by a few words or taking your additional time needed by staying at the ceremony sight. They are very timely between the ceremony time and when the person or ashes are placed with there headstone for you to return to visit. Given that I have several more family members who are military members and/or spouses, we will be back in the upcoming years and I hope things remain as seamless. read more

I have visited a number of National Cemeteries and I am always impressed by the cleanliness and organization, which demonstrates a true respect for the veterans who are laid to rest in them. Whether it is the Arlington National Cemetery or the Long Island National Cemetery or the Beaufort National Cemetery, the grounds are impeccable and the site is peaceful. At first, I wandered and read through headstones. I always look for one who shares my own birthday as a way to connect with those laid to rest here. After I did not find one, I switched and headed to find one specific person. David Moniac fought in the US Army during the Second Seminole War. He was the first Native American graduate of West Point (in 1822) and was commissioned a second lieutenant in the 6th Infantry Regiment. After resigning his commission and then returning to the army as a Captain in 1836 (the only Native American commissioned officer), he was promoted to Major but fell in battle against the Seminoles in 1836. The inscription on the stone, "He was as brave and gallant a man as ever drew a sword or faced an enemy." Maj. Gen. T.S. Jessup. Thank you for your service. Unfortunate we had a very sad occasion for our family to visit this cemetery but it is a wonderful military cemetery. Nestled in a forest the way the gravesites are organized is spectacular. The service for my dad with military honors was incredibly moving and emotional. The honor guard was incredibly professional and courteous. The gun salute is a bit startling but beautiful. I'd also like to note that military spouses may be buried here as well. read more

Beautiful place where our fallen heroes can Rest In Peace. From the moment we arrived we were told to line up at the yellow line until our volunteer came to share with us the details of how our 20 minute service would go. Her name was Tina, and she greeted our Dad with great empathy and respect. His beloved wife had died two years prior due to the pandemic we couldn't have a service for her. Today was the day! As a Funeral Director, I have taken 100s of veterans for burial here. Florida National (Bushnell) is a beautiful wildlife preserve where sometimes deer come out of the woods during the funerals! It's awesome. There are also hawks, woodpeckers, bunnies, critters. This park is a peaceful final resting place. They offer every family a Committal Shelter for final prayers and the FD can prearrange Military Honors. Every time they Present The Flag, I cry. It's so emotional. This cemetery is dedicated to our heroes who have helped keep our country free. I attended a service for my husband's dear friend on June 1 - right after the Memorial Day weekend. Every headstone was decorated with an American flag. Wherever I looked the rows were straight and perfect - forming a "V" for veteran. Grounds are meticulously kept - as it should be for hallowed ground. Services are beautiful and touching. I was saving my 1500th review for something special and I found it here at the Florida National Cemetery when we interred my Dad last week. The grounds here are absolutely beautiful and the staff was amazingly helpful both before and during the memorial ceremony. To keep things organized they start you in your lane so all of the mourners can drive to the location of the ceremony in one group. The area where the ceremony is located is a nice size, but during COVID only the immediate family gets seating and everyone else spreads out around the outer edge. The location was perfectly accommodating. We had beautiful weather the day we were there and the VFW did a nice job with the service, as did the bagpiper. Dad would have loved the service. read more

This Memorial Day, I wanted to do something other then a bbq or beach day, I wanted to really celebrate the lives of our military and share my patriotic spirit with the fallen. I didn't know what to expect when we arrived here but my breath was taken away by how vast and beautiful this cemetery is. The entrance lined with big American Flags was so glorious! This is beautiful part of Florida and the grounds are immaculate. On this day, after the eleventh hour, of the eleven day, of the eleventh month, I know my father is resting in peace. Hopefully playing some cards with the guys & gals here! We went back to Bushnell National Cemetery on Memorial Day weekend and were overwhelmed at how beautiful it looked seeing all the United States Flags on the gravesites. There are 129,000 interred at Bushnell so take a moment, and just imagine. I have attached pictures, but they do not do justice for the cemeteries beauty. read more

I regret having a need to visit the cemetery. It is a beautifully kept area. There is a convenient kiosk that prints your loved one's info. An organized letter and number system makes it easy to find the location. There are benches to allow reflection. Heavy hearts. read more

A bit strange to review a cemetery, but this is one that I have visited repeatedly to honor the burials of recent KIAs as well as the generations of vets that served over the years, some falling in combat and more surviving to die in old age. A beautiful setting that is well maintained. Will be there again on 12/15/12 to take part in the nation-wide "Wreathes Across America" event honoring fallen warriors. What a beautiful, peaceful place to honor the lives of thousands of men and women who served in the military. The cemetery is very simple but quite large, offering nature trails and many places to sit quietly. Seeing thousands of perfectly aligned white grave stones is a powerful reminder of how many individuals have served over the years. We laid my grandfather, a WWII Merchant Marine, to rest earlier this month. The Navy provided two compassionate servicemen to honor him for his maritime service, present the American flag to my grandmother, and play Taps. Everything was arranged beautifully, and with (expected) military precision. It is an honor and a privilege to be laid to rest here, and they treat even departed servicemen with the dignity and respect they deserve. read more

When you drive through here you see all the markers of men and women who at one point in time defended this country chokes you up. A huge and very well maintained national cemetery. It's the second to largest national cemetery.

While visiting my father's grave, the landscapers were busy tending the grounds, as I knelt to place flowers, they shut off their equipment, moved to the side and removed their caps. They stayed this way until I left. What a show of respect! My wife and I plan to be laid to rest in this beautiful place. We have attended funeral services and ceremonies several times that were conducted with perfection. But yesterday, 11/18/2013, 1 PM, we attended the funeral of Lt. Col Mel Sweat and were treated very rudely, bordering on disrespect. A 12 gun salute ( Four Troops, Three shots) was made and taps was played. Then someone read a poem and we recited the Lord's Prayer. This took all of 20 minutes. The director said that this concluded the ceremony and said that we we all had to get back to our cars and leave as there was another service scheduled. We didn't even have the chance to offer any accolades for the deceased or condolences to the surviving spouse. In fact, the Director was tugging on her arm trying to get her to leave. We left feeling that we had not given the proper respect to this truly deserving individual and his surviving wife. This sentiment was shared by others in attendance. read more
