The…read moreAnimal Shelter (sometimes wrongly referred to as the dog pound) hosts a monthly discounted price microchip implant and rabies vaccination on the first Tuesday of every month. They even gave out FREE personalized "dog tags" for everyone participating when I was there! The City Of Tallahassee had a promotional table setup handing out free colored bandanas. Free iced cold bottled water was handed out in line under two temporary canopies/awnings to get pets and people cooled down and shielded from the 95 degree sunshine. Totally awesome!!!!! The entire Animal Shelter staff was FANTASTIC! They were on their A-game. Necessary forms, paperwork and pens were distributed along the entire line to be completed beforehand. They even started letting pets and owners inside to get out of the stifling heat. Once called into the exam room, the procedure was extremely efficient, with near zero stress to my pet. The Doctor and support staff were extremely professional, handled my pet with a gentle touch and provided verbal reassurances to my kitten as the procedure occurred. It took less than a minute for both the microchip insertion and rabies vaccine to be administered. The entire process took 45 minutes from beginning to end for me. Simply fantastic! It is recommended to visit 'The Fix Thrift Shop - Be The Solution' first as they are the beginning point on the path to good pet stewardship. There you can get crucial 'new pet owner' information, microchip and rabies info, spay and neuter vouchers, etc. Always remember, good animal stewardship leads to fewer unnecessary animal euthanizations! As my pet story continues to unfold: The stray kitten I took in is now known as Fuzzy and everyone seems to love that name lol! We're here a minimum of once a week, vet visits open to the community periodically (monthly/quarterly?). Puppy play time, supervised by a trainer happens twice a week Saturdays and Sundays. Pal Rewards help make things more affordable. Plenty of variety in food, toys, and treats for dogs, cats, and others. They have a good return policy, which is important. We've had to use it several times, so we know first hand the benefit of needing to return a toy when they're not into it. Feel free to buy stuff, even if you're not sure your pet will enjoy. Certain items you will have to make sure you have your receipt if you need to exchange or return.

I was nervous but overall I would say Ashley and Petco exceeded my initial expectations. I could tell she had a genuine love for dogs when I left him which eased some of my worries. At the end of the day I was happier about the fact that my dog was treated with love than the actual cut. Usually he gets a teddy bear cut but this time I only mentioned keeping it longer and making his face round. In retrospect I should have been more specific and shown a photo. It turned out shorter than I'm used to and a bit uneven. Ashley said he was a major wiggle worm and wanted to play which I'm sure made it very difficult. She was nice about his puppy behavior though and remained positive and upbeat throughout our conversations at pickup and drop off. She seemed to really enjoy my dog despite his antics which made a huge difference.
