This is a cute place right on the Homosassa River. We stayed at the hotel on the property and walked over for dinner. We had a big group and ordered several pizzas. All of them were good, but the Blue Crab Dip Pizza is the reason I would 100% come back here any time we are in this area. The seating area was outdoors on a covered patio, but comfortable, and there was a guy playing some live music. The kids liked going on the lawn and playing the yard games they had out, which was a great way to pass the time while we waited for our pizza. There's an island on the river in front of the restaurant that apparently used to have monkeys on it, but there were no monkeys when we were there. read more

Wow, what a great place! We rolled up around 3 pm after a big storm, so it wasn't busy. The bartender was extremely friendly and made us delicious Drunken Monkey drinks. We ordered the big pretzel, the gator pizza, and the crab dip. My son devoured the pretzel, the pizza was incredible, and I loved the flavor of the dip. The Monkey Bar is a good outdoor bar and pizza place. it is located right at the mouth of the Homassassa River on the Gulf of Mexico with picturesque sunsets and views of the local boaters going in and out the waterway. You can even dock your boat and step up to the bar for a beer or cocktails. You order at the bar and they bring it out to you at your table. They serve several themed cocktails and bourbon/whiskey drinks which are very good. The menu items are quite unique and everything tastes great. The staff is very friendly and works fast to get you served quickly. I would like to personally shout out to Heidi and Orlando for their great service and cheerfulness while doing so. My friends and I went on a Manatee tour in the area and the guide recommended we visit the Monkey Bar for some good food and views of monkey island. We got there around 1 and there was a good amount of people but not too crowded. We got the plain Mac and Cheese which was incredible. My friends and I agreed that it was one of the best Mac and Cheese we've ever had. For lunch we had the chicken bacon ranch pizza and the Alligator sausage pizza. The alligator sausage was so good! I wanted more when I was finished. If you like hawaiian pizza you'll love this, and if you don't they have an alligator dog on menu for you to try. I got the Money Juice for my drink and it was delicious! the views of monkey island and the water were also a nice bonus. watching the monkeys play around was so much fun. A local friend took me and another friend here while we were all visiting one weekend. Cool little local bar decent specials and local brew. Food was good nothing special. The service was excellent the staff was friendly and knowledgeable on local brews. The night we were there there was live music. Ample seating. My buddy brought his dog and though he had brought his own water bowl they provided one for him. Unfortunately the monkey island was still being renovated so we didn't get to see them. Did see lots. We came in for an early dinner today. There were hardly any other customers there, just a few with some drinks. We waited nearly an hour for our food and checked in with the bartenders repeatedly to see when it would be ready, until finally she tells us that she called our names and couldn't find us so our food had been sitting in the back in to-go boxes getting cold. No one ever called our name. The place was just about empty. We were sitting right in front of the bar. Extremely frustrating and disappointing. Asked for a refund immediately. Next we had a Cuban pizza. Very tasty and nice crust. I think more than one or 2 slices of a pie like this is good. A whole pie is a bit much. We got to visit the in laws' property in the area and have been wanting to check out this place for some time. First and foremost, who doesn't want to have a beer and look out at and island of monkeys? Our understanding is that they made a film in the area and the monkeys were unfortunately left behind. This is a popular spot, as it's a resort with the restaurant and bar attached. Since we visited in the afternoon, we opted to split a pretzel and have some beers. The pretzel got cold a little fast; however, we did come on an unseasonably cool day in March. There is plenty of outdoor space upstairs and downstairs for social distancing. They had a tasty looking menu, including pizzas and other items, as well as a full craft cocktail and craft beer menu. The beer selection was great! The outside area is perfect for people and monkey watching, and/or watching boaters go down the river. It's definitely a must visit if you're in the area. We hope to return soon! read more

People grabbing their children. I don't tell you some about brown people. Black people, especially, we are not kidnapping white children. Either we were overcharged. Oh that is too high for locals. I'm not sure what was worse at this location, the attitude of the server/bartender, or the extremely poor quality of food. Pizza was undercooked and underwhelming in flavor, both my wife and I couldn't finish our meals as they were tasteless. Scrapings from the pizza oven on the bottom of the pizza had more flavor than the pizza itself....clean the pizza oven for Gods sakes! The only thing it has going for it is the view of monkey Island, and you can do that from the dock without spending a dime. This place has a lot of potential, and it falls far short of it. read more

I have to say, I am just now realizing that there are actual monkeys here! As we visited too late in the evening, we weren't able to see them. They had a little island and we thought it was interesting that it was decorated and full of little tree houses - now we know why. Even without knowing that monkeys were around, the environment was great! As we enjoyed watching the water from the upper deck, we ordered drinks from the lower bar and sat upstairs. We had some excellent specialty cocktails! They were fairly simple but absolutely delicious. The French Toast and Old Cracker were both excellent. We decided to split the buffalo chicken dip and the Yulee Drive BBQ pizza for dinner. The pizza was definitely freshly made. The dip and pizza were perfect to split between two people. There seemed to be a few other bars open nearby at the time. The bars all seemed to be quite rowdy, however. We were happy to see that this bar, though crowded, was fairly calm. I used to really enjoy the Monkey Bar. I would normally start there, or at The Shed next door, and then walk between the two bars so I got the best of both worlds. When I left The Shed on my way to the Monkey Bar yesterday, however, I discovered that they had built a fence between the two properties. As a result, anyone wanting to go to both bars has to go all the way to the end of the street where there is a stop sign - no more shortcut. On top of that, the new bartender that was working there yesterday could not have been more rude. Quite a departure from the treatment I have received in the past. Came here yesterday based on pics on Yelp and the reviews. My experience wasn't as good. we also went there because of the catfish and the restaurant was on the river. When I walked in I realized that you have to walk up and order everything. Every time you want another glass of anything you have to wait in line. And there's a bar but you can't sit at the bar for some odd reason. And, this restaurant only serves pizza. So, to get catfish you have to walk across the parking lot to order it. There, you can sit at the bar but they have very limited drink options and ONLY CASH. I was able to take my catfish over to the pizza restaurant but unless you're outside, you can't sit to look at the river. Outside was just too hot. We left and went across the river. read more
