Some Materials and labor that I had paid for were not ultimately provided, requiring me to hire additional contractors and purchase materials again in order to complete portions of the project upward of $15k. The job site was frequently inactive for extended periods. Before final inspections, I incurred additional expenses to address four active plumbing leaks and the resulting damage that were not corrected. I also received a gas water heater instead of the electric water heater specified for the project. Interior doors, baseboards, and other paid-for items remained unprovided & uninstalled. Floors that were intended to be flush between rooms were constructed with approximately 2-inch height transitions. The exterior deck foundation was never built although paid for. Communication became a significant issue as the project progressed. Concerns were repeatedly raised, but solutions were not provided. Several design decisions that had been provided in writing were not implemented as directed, requiring additional corrective work and cost (!) where possible. The project also experienced ongoing quality and oversight issues, including damaged flooring that was never repaired, unfinished & uneven stairs, prolonged plumbing issues and delays, construction debris remaining on site despite payment for debris removal services, and kitchen cabinets that were being installed significantly out of level, requiring me to stop the work and hire another contractor to complete the installation. As a result, I incurred substantial additional costs, spent considerable time coordinating corrective work, and ultimately had to manage completion of portions of the project myself after the original scope remained unfinished. Prospective customers should carefully review project scope, material delivery, change-order procedures, completion requirements, and contractor oversight responsibilities before entering into an agreement.

I needed professional help with a sloped area of my back yard, and Garden Song Design was just what…read morethe doctor ordered. I couldn't be more happy with the job Paula and her team did. My wife and I can now really enjoy our new outdoor space - it was like adding a new room to the house, in addition to providing us with an awesome view from our deck. The sloped area was laden with roots, stumps and vines - and had been taken over by poison ivy, milkweed and various other hardy weeds; not a pretty sight and a real pain to stay on top of. It was very difficult to move dirt in that area. After years of procrastination I finally pulled the trigger and asked Paula for some help. At the first consultation we discussed concept, scope and budget; and Paula took many measurements and photos. Within days she sent us a series of photo renderings, pictures of various plant and tree options that would work well with the concept (as well as with the environmental conditions of the location), and a detailed estimate. In addition, she outlined her reasoning for the various elements of the plan. This gave us a really good framework from which to work as it triggered other ideas about the ultimate vision for our backyard - beyond just the sloped area. Sharing these other ideas with Paula - and deciding to add a fire pit to the project - she worked with us over the next couple of weeks, and numerous phone calls, to fine-tune the project in a way that would better compliment the ultimate vision. Throughout the process, she provided expert guidance - taking into consideration sun/shade, the budget, and other factors I would have never thought of. Many of the suggestions were just subtle design features - but they made a huge difference to the end of achieving our vision. For example she suggested a slight curvature in the landscape edge to help delineate the fire pit area from where we we planned a future patio. It was a soft enough curve to allow for easy mowing, but enough to really set off the fire pit area. Ultimately we ended up with a better project than we ever imagined. If you want a professionally designed landscape - I highly recommend Garden Song Design. I don't think you'll find anyone more knowledgeable about trees and plants, as well as design principles, as Paula.

From the beginning, she was very prompt in getting back to me, and her communication was stellar! She came out to my home and took detailed measurements and lots of pictures - she spent a great deal of time with me discussing what I was looking - low maintenance plants and flowers that look great, of course! :) She was also very respectful of my budget. A week later, she came back to my home with a full blow blueprint, detailing each plant and the placement - she made her recommendations taking into account the soil, sun, acidity, etc - all things I wouldn't have known anything about - and we went back and forth about a few plants, and she was great about making changes. She also had some other ideas for our house that we could do ourselves to save money, which was so greatly appreciated! On the day of the install, Paula was on site and guiding the placement of the plants - she did a phenomenal job! Great communication throughout, very happy customer! If you're going to spend the money that's involved in really landscaping your house, do yourself a favor and hire a professional like Paula - otherwise, you'll go to Home Depot, buy a bunch of pretty plants, they'll all be dead in a month, and then you`ll have to hire her anyway - I say that from experience :)
