They know what they're doing in terms of coffee and can prepare it for you in any way: French Press Turkish Espresso Pour Over My favorite part is that they sell a variety whole bean coffee by the kilo. It's situated close to where I work downtown, and I really needed to get an energy boost, as well as, something to put in my stomach. The cafe itself is quite large, and there are more than enough tables and places to sit. I didn't notice any outdoor seating, but that didn't matter, I found a nice spot along the window area. It was somewhat early to order any real food, so instead I got the Chocalatin pastry, which is similar to a croissant with chocolate. Instead of regular coffee, I decided on a medium cappuccino with leche, and for that I added 3 sugar packs. There were quite a few people seated inside, and I would guess about four people standing in the line in frontoc of me. The Chocalatin pastry was a great compliment to the capuccino, and it was a nice space to chill out and enjoy the scene.

This is a Mexican take on Starbucks, located in the Historical Center of Mexico City…read more Pricing is slightly less than Starbucks but the shops are not as nice. Coffee was good, but the plump blonde female cashier was really grumpy and that loses you a few stars. It was a hot summer day and I asked for an iced cappuccino. The plump girl scowled and told me they could do iced coffee. I said, no, I wanted a cappuccino. After a ten minute argument during which I told her I knew the difference between a cappuccino and a coffee and she maintained they were the same thing, finally she said, ok-ok-ok and caved in to my demand. When it arrived, it was an iced coffee. Come on, I know what iced coffee is. An iced coffee is not the end of the world but I ordered iced cappuccino. I asked the server, who was quite apologetic, to take it back and bring me a cappuccino and a glass of ice. He did so and the problem was solved. Two points back for the helpful server taking care of this. But the cashier should have done it from the beginning. Any shop with cappuccino and ice can make iced cappuccino. If I'd dealt with him from the beginning I'd have given this place a much higher rating.

They have different types of beans, all Mexican origin. They didn't speak much English so I couldn't get any recommendations. I used Google Translate but that made it more confusing. As it said coffee with sugar or coffee without sugar. I'm guessing it's the type of beans you'd buy if you drink your coffee that way. On the bottom was single origin coffee which was what I was looking for. I took a pic and asked a barista at another coffee shop which coffee she preferred. I ended up getting a kilo of Pulma Hildago and Cordoba. They were both medium roast. I'm drinking the Pulma Hidalgo it's slightly sweet and has mild citrus notes. I really like it. After doing more research they also have Marago beans. I wish I had done my research at the time because Marago beans are quite rare. They are taller trees so they are harder to pick and they also give less beans so farmers don't usually plant them. They are also the largest coffee beans, called elephant beans. I don't know if they taste good but I wish I tried it. I like this place, lots of Mexican single origin beans and even some rare varietals.

I wasn't sure exactly what to get and Juan, one of the guys who works here, recommended Planchuela, and Caracolillo which is regionally grown in Chiapas. I bought a kilo of each type. This is not a restaurant or cafe mind you, they strictly sell regional coffee beans that are prepared and roasted. Think of it as a deli that sells just coffee. Juan told me that they have over thirty different types of coffee beans that we're grown all over Mexico. You would be very hard pressed to find any place like this outside of Mexico. What a great find!

Looking around, its a casual spot that feels well loved. Photos of babies and other personal touches, along with just a large collection of coffee roasting/grinding machines lined the walls. We were provided menus and our waiter didn't speak English but we still got by with our minimal Spanish. I didn't pick up any hints of disdain for our lack of local language/customs. I ordered the special coffee and the chilaquiles with green salsa and chicharron de la ramos. The coffee was really good, smooth, rich, and no need to add sugar to fight any hints of bitterness. The chilaquiles were also amazing, the salsa verde was pleasantly spicy and the chicharron was so light and crisp. It made for a wonderful start to my morning and it was a large portion (I couldn't finish and got the rest to go). Paying was also easy, they accept card so just tap and go essentially. Highly recommend this spot as a great loal breakfast stop. Seemed to be a local favorite and didn't spot any other obvious tourists while we were here. Food was spectacular and prices were great for the amount of food we have.
