I called and emailed all of the various excursions, rental cars, sea plane rides etc. Every single one responded and let me know what I needed to do to get credit or refund etc. All were very helpful and supportive EXCEPT SEA QUEST. Sea quest didn't respond at all other than by sending requests saying they did not have our waivers. To which I responded letting them know we had cancelled the trip and btw had sent the waivers even though they're not necessary at this point. I would've been ok if they kept the deposit or gave us a credit. But they continue to ask for waivers while I'm in the ICU with my husband and have now added an additional charge. The kicker is that we're a party of three and they sent a message stating that solo kayaking isn't allowed?? So, are you saying someone has to stay behind because we're a party of 3 and you don't have other kayakers?! lol What a stupid comment w/o providing more info. Clearly not organized. They used to be reputable but clearly they're new ownership has issues. This is one company I won't be using when I rebook our trip.

My sister had recently come here to go kayaking and recommended it as a spot to visit. So, I decided to give it a try as a lunch spot. Discovery passes were required for parking, fortunately I had thought ahead and it was in the glove compartment of my car. I arrived towards the morning side of noon on 1 September 2021 and parking was abundant. The weather was sunny with a slight wind. So I decided to park, grab my lunch and eat on a piece of driftwood on the beach. A group of kayakers were just heading out as I ate and a few dog walkers made their way up and down the shore. Just up from the beach there were picnic tables and a large grassy expanse. A trail led off into a wooded area. The restroom building not far from the parking lot was kept cleanly.

It's a level, rocky beach, with some driftwood - perfect for exploring, beach walking, or just sitting on a log and taking it all in. There's a bit of a rough parking area (watch out for potholes) and zero facilities, so keep that in mind as it's a bit of a drive to the nearest restroom. This would make a great beach for kayaking or canoeing, as the bay it sits on is semi-protected and seemed insulated from the wind. Note: the map indicates there's a boat launch here, but there is not. There appears to have been one at some point, but it's been mostly washed away and covered with rocks and driftwood - definitely no way to actually use it to launch anything but a portable watercraft.

The marina is located right by the entrance to the Navy base, so we pass it on our way on/off the base when going to the Navy Exchange or Commissary. If one is able, it is fun to walk the docks to just look at the boats and talk to some boat owners if they are out and about. Also, the bay on which the marina is located has some very cool rocks along the water's edge. Fun to take a small dinghy with outboard motor out on the water to do some geo-exploring around the bay. Not too far a ride away from the marina. All around the marina serves as a nice base for some nautical adventuring.

Since I bought the boat a variety of issues have come up and some required replacement parts others just maintenance work. It has been my experience that Flower's does good work at a very fair price. Joe, the owner, is one of the more enjoyable people to deal with. He is patient and will explain what they are doing in a manner that is easy to understand. He and his mechanic are also VERY willing to give advice on work that you might undertake yourself and avoid a trip to the shop. All in all, a great business to do work with.

Hunter Bay County Dock is one of the best kept secrets on Lopez Island. If you are looking for a…read morerelatively private beach, or a place to launch your boat, this place is a must visit! The graded concrete ramp is in good shape, and easily accessible. Hunter Bay is well-sheltered by tall cliffs to the south, so the water is relatively calm. The beach and surrounding environs make for a truly gorgeous setting. The beach is next to the ramp and dock, and there's plenty of soft, pebbled sand. It's a great place to sit on a driftwood log and listen to the birds sing. I spent an hour at this beach and never encountered a single person. That says a lot for Lopez Island in July, the busiest month of the year. Visitors will find parking on a hill just above the dock, with designated spots for cars and boat trailers. Boat trailer parking is limited to 72 hours, which is pretty impressive given there's no charge for parking in this space. Please be respectful and quiet when parking in the vicinity of the dock, it's a residential setting with neighboring vacation rentals and primary residences. Dogs are allowed on leash, but warnings indicate pets running free are subject to confiscation due to local livestock. I brought my dog and didn't feel she was in any danger - but I kept tabs on her the entire time I was there. I highly suggest checking out this lovely and serene beach when you visit Lopez Island next.
