I took a Flix bus from Portland to Seattle and back. From Portland to Seattle it was great. Five minute walk from my apartment. Friendly driver. Not crowded. Internet. Charger. Space above my seat to store stuff. Comfortable ride. On the way back though it was a totally different story. I was scheduled to leave Seattle at 7:55pm at the 6th Ave S & S Lane St stop. Then at 3:36pm I get an email from them saying that they had to cancel my ride. WUT!!! No text message or call either. Fortunately I was on my laptop and saw the email in time, but what if I wasn't? I think this is absolutely terrible. I easily could have missed the email and been stuck in Seattle having to find a hotel at the last minute. Since I saw the email, I was able to reschedule. I took the 5:20pm option that leaves from "Seattle Bus Station" which is at 503 S Royal Brougham Way, 98134 Seattle and "Operated by MTR Western as FlixBus". I get there 15 minutes early, like they ask, but... well... I was confused. - It was a Greyhound Station. It didn't say "Seattle Bus Station" anywhere. - There was no one else waiting. I was the only one. Even a few minutes before 5:20pm. This made me think I was in the wrong place. I'd expect there to be at least a dozen or so other people like me waiting to board. - The Greyhound Station was closed. So it wasn't like I could walk inside and ask an employee or something for clarification. - There were two different parking lots outside the Greyhound Station and if it even was the right place, I wasn't sure which parking lot it would be, so I tried to frantically keep an eye on both. - Adding to the confusion, it was this weird sketchy area underneath a huge highway with lots of stuff going on. Including a huge depot or something for city buses. So I was nervous that one of the areas with the city buses was actually "Seattle Bus Station" as opposed to the Greyhound Station being "Seattle Bus Station". There were also random city buses parked all over the place, and I wasn't sure if I misjudged a city bus to be the Flix bus I was supposed to board. - 5:20pm passes and no bus arrives. - At around 5:25pm I see a MTR Western bus arrive in one of the Greyhound Station parking lots. So I walk up to the driver, ask if he's with Flix bus, he is, but he says he's just dropping off, not picking up, and I'm probably waiting for a different bus that will come after his. - So I walk back to the other parking lot. But then I decide to walk back and ask the guy for more clarification. - He says again that he's not picking up here, just dropping off. So I start elaborating that I'm going to Portland and am worried I'll miss my bus and ask if he can help me make sure I'm in the right place for my bus. He asks for my ticket. I show him. He asks when I got it. I explain that they cancelled my initial trip and just got this one like two hours ago. He realizes that it's his bus and he must not have gotten the notice or something since it was two hours ago and tells me to board his bus. So yeah. Wtf. I easily could have missed my bus. Poor communication. They should have made absolutely sure to communicate with the drivers, get affirmation from the drivers that they know what's going on, have pictures of the pick up locations so that it's visually clear where you're supposed to be, and provide text message updates if a bus is running late. There should also be large signs saying something like "Flix bus boarding location here". I dunno, probably a bunch of other stuff too. And regarding the cancellation, I _kinda_ get it. There probably weren't enough passengers and to it wouldn't be profitable for them to run the route. And tickets are very cheap. If your offering is "the tickets will be cheap in exchange for the timing being unpredictable", that's valid. However, if that is indeed what you're offering, you need to be absolutely clear about that to your customers. That way customers know what they're getting into and consent to it. Instead, the whole "we might cancel your trip at the very last minute" thing was probably hidden in the fine print somewhere which I see as quite unethical. Oh, and on the trip back the internet stopped working after 20 minutes or so. "Error: time quota limit exceeded". PS: I find it odd that on Yelp there is a different FlixBus business page for each drop off/pick up location. As a customer I want to know what FlixBus is like overall as a company. They probably do it per-location so that customers only see a handful of 1 star reviews as opposed to thousands and can rationalize to themselves that it's just a small sample size. read more

Possible one of the worst experiences I've had with any kind of interstate transport. Firstly the bus stop is nothing more than a plastic signboard. There's no additional signage or seating area. This would be fine if the bus was on time. We had dropped a family member off for their ride from Portland to Seattle. The scheduled departure time was 3 PM, and after being 30 minutes late we started to worry; however my brother in law wasn't too concerned as they were late on his trip down. After another 30 minutes (a total of 1 hour at this point) he finally received an email, the first piece of communication this entire time, which stated that there was an "unknown delay." Since we didn't receive any further communication we decided to call them. After being on hold for 40 minutes (almost 2 hours now from initial departure) we finally got a hold of customer service who's exact words were "we lost contact with the bus driver and we do not know where they are" and they had no other options for us. In the end, they reached out to us over an automated email almost 4hours after scheduled departure to offer us another "free ride" to another destination (Not Seattle). Long story short they may be the cheapest option but I could not truly recommend them. Between the delays and the sheer lack of communication. read more

My airport bus from Portland to the Sea-Tac Airport was over an hour late. After a chaotic and unorganized loading process onto a dirty bus, we learned that the bus wouldn't turn on. This resulted in a delay for more hours. I eventually had to hop off and rent a car to make my flight in time. I tried to contact them multiple times for a refund and never got a reply. Eventually my credit card refunded the charge. read more

I purchased 4 tickets from Seattle to portland for me and my three children. We arrived on time and found our bus number on our tickets. I presented my ticket to the driver and he said he was not going to portland and to not board his bus but rather sort this out with customer service. I called flix and was on hold so long the bus had departed. The customer service person would not listen to what I needed to explain and he refused to issue a refund which left me and my three children stranded in Seattle with no way home and $300 poorer. He had no patience or compassion or listening skills. I am disgusted with Flix Bus and will never use them. read more

Terrible service and customer service. Left behind at Bend Oregon to Salem because bus didn't pickup at the designated curb but was waiting in the parking lot. Nobody around on weekends to direct passengers when bus doesn't go to the designated pickup location in the lot. Multiple passengers left behind and their no refund policy doesn't allow for their errors. Never again and we make multiple trips to bend a month would have been nice to have a service we could rely on! read more

Nope. Do not use this service unless you HAVE to. I've ridden twice, both times have been awful. The front row of seats is cramped on some buses, they're always late, and currently, this bus has one seat left, next to a guy I couldn't physically sit next to. I paid to reserve a seat, but that literally doesn't matter. They don't check, so someone will sit in your seat. The fact that I've been standing for half an hour because of the no seats is ridiculous. Horrible. read more

Confusing/scamming processe to edit trip after purchase and customer service extremely unhelpful. I purchased a round trip ticket which is two separate tickets and I got to select my seats, I paid the extra $5 for each trip to have a passenger free seat due to covid concerns. I made the mistake of booking the two tickets on the same date, I needed to change the date of the second ticket I was able to do this but then I was not able to select a passenger-free seat and I was issued a voucher. In order to select my seat I then called customer service they informed me that I would need to cancel my trip and book a new trip because they could not change the seats post booking (why?). The customer service representative told me that I can go to the help section on the website and receive a cash refund for my vouchers that I was not able to use because you cannot use a voucher from a canceled booking on the same trip (his words) I then purchased the new trip went to the help section and could not find that option. So I called customer service again and they denied me the refund even though I had now paid in full twice. The representative was not helpful just repeating that is not in our terms and conditions over and over again. I just want to know why I was misled.  The second customer service representative told me verbatim I was misled by the first customer representative.  I don't appreciate being told different information by multiple representatives, and the convoluted way refunds and trip edits are handled is shady. This was the 1st time I had ever taken a Greyhound bus and I have to say that it went very well. We had a very good driver and she let us stop to use the restroom and get something to eat since it was around dinner time that were traveling. I would highly recommend this means of transportation in TN as they don't really have anything else besides Uber/Lyft to get from Nashville to Knoxville. It was way too much to do a one way car rental! This was a great option. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. Bus was an hour late with no notice of delay. Half way on our trip the bus broke down and delayed us even more. Turned my 3 hour trip into a day trip. Got to my station at night when I was supposed to get there in the afternoon. All they offered for the inconvenience was a 15% coupon off my next bus ride that I will never be taking with Flix. 0/10 wouldn't recommend. read more

Terrible, terrible customer service!! I accidently booked my return bus ticket to the incorrect city. Their website told me that I could go to "Manage my booking" to make corrections. This will NOT allow you to change the destination. Once I called customer service to ask if they could refund a ticket I was unable to use, the flat out REFUSED. So they tell you that you can change a booking (which you cannot) then will not refund your money for the ticket. This is a rip off scam and I'm not sure how they get away with it. Not sure how companies can get away with taking your money even if you cannot use the services. Luckily I had money to book a train ticket, but if you are short on funds, use at your own risk and do NOT make a mistake. read more

My week long trip to Portland has turned into 3 week stay due to FlixBus cancellations. Both of my bookings have been canceled 1.5 hours prior to boarding the bus back home. I will stick with Greyhound. read more

I highly recommend riding FlixBus not only is it much more affordable than flying but the bus is very modern, clean and has WiFi, is comfortable and the bus drivers are great. I took the bus from portland oregon to Washington recently for the first time. A few things to know are they do not sell water or snacks so bring bottled water and food. They do not really stop along the way long enough to buy anything at nearby Starbucks etc. other things to know are that the internet travel booking websites of various companies that book bus rides for FlixBus show that this bus stops at portland oregon union station (Amtrak) for some routes and give the impression (this could be subject to interpretation) that FlixBus is affiliated with portland union station and is one of its affiliated bus lines, however a union station staff member informed me that union station has no affiliation with FlixBus and FlixBus customers are not allowed to wait inside Portland, OR union station while waiting for their FlixBus to arrive. The actual FlixBus bus stop for most of its routes is on a curbside several blocks away from union station requiring a walk under a bridge which when it is dark outside is not only dangerous but scary. I recommend you have someone drive you there and watch until you get on the bus read more
