Service is super-friendly and helpful. Food continues to be excellent, and the drinks are on point. I will have a brief moan that the old, adorable snug in the front room has been replaced by a standard dining area, but I'm also just happy to have the Castle back in the community again. Cute as a button, as you might expect for a village whose entire core is a National Trust location, this place is worth a visit.

Apparently, and this is what the owner of the next door antique store told us, the owner at this place used to be the chef in some of London's really happening kitchens...well, he must've had a good education, because the quality of both food and service was really good.

Some pubs just don't get food wine right, but they seem to be clued in on this front at the Witch. It is a little tucked out of the way, so if you haven;t been before I would suggest a route finder or bringing a sat nav. If you arrive at Haywards Heath station, it's worth an inexpensive taxi fare and well worth venturing into Lindfield for. i would definitely return for a second helping!

Not sure this is a good thing as, surely, most people choose a venue on it's food and this takes away that choice... They do offer a Dining Club discount on food (must include a main course) of 10% - this is Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and 'a steak for a tenner' deal on Thursdays. The whole pub is undergoing refurbishment in early 2024 inside and out which is great news as it was looking a bit tired when we last visited. Better weather sees the use of the large field for parking and al-fresco dining which proves very popular, especially at weekends as the pub is located in the South Downs National Park and is just a (steep) walk from the South Downs Way.

A good selection of real ale, sets off the old beams and friendly land lady. Moving with pint in had to the large garden overlooking the south downs way (see photos) we soon had steaming masses of food arriving. My lamb with apricots and apples was sumptuous. The liver and bacon my sister had was adequate, but the fish pie was a real winner, salmon, prawns, white fish in a creamy mash. Mmmmm. By the piles of benches stacked against a barn it looks like it gets very busy in the summertime - and according to some locals it "isn't as good as it was before it was discovered" but all in all a great lunch and think it is a great find. Heartily recommend, hope some other Qypers can discover it too.
