In fact, it is what I…read morewould consider to be one of those newer intermediate stations, namely the ones where they have no facilities, no staff, and you simply come here to get on the train and get off it again (though I usually come here to just get on the train). Then again, there is a shopping centre nearby, and they do have a bus interchange, though a rather small one.

I don't understand why Melbourne's otherwise outstanding tram system doesn't extend to the airport…read morebut it doesn't. So your option is an expensive cab or the Skybus. Fortunately there was a stop right outside our hotel so it was super convenient. There are several routes that go to different places - just ask & staff will make sure you get to the right bus. The buses we were on were very clean, with pleasant drivers and ample luggage space. There is also free WiFi that actually worked. I'd rather take a tram but the Skybus gets the job done.

I did catch a train from here years ago, and I believe that this used to be one of those stations…read morewhere form basically follows function. However that has changed since they decided to elevate the railway line over the road, namely so that traffic wouldn't bank up whenever a train passed by. Well, the station looks much more modern these days, and has a lot more facilities as well, including a warm waiting room, a ticket office, and of course toilets (which are sorely lacking from a lot of the older stations). Another thing that I certainly appreciate about this station is that it happens to be located near some shops, which means that it is good to stop off at for a coffee, or grabbing a bite to eat.

Actually, it's pretty packed when there is any major event on in the area, and I have to admit that I have got off the train here pretty often as well. The 60 minute ride has a narration in English and stops at highlights along the way. The W-class trams were built from the 1920s to the 1950s. They remind me a bit of the streetcars in New Orleans. We used the trams to get a nice overview of Melbourne with stops to reach museums, Flagstaff Gardens and Queen Victoria Market. Had a great view of Marvel Stadium, Flinders Street Station, St. Paul's Cathedral and the Immigration Museum from the tram. So interesting to also see all of the Australian Open/AO advertising throughout Melbourne. A nice way to explore Melbourne especially when you have limited time in the city.

The room has the standard amenities, such as an iron, a safe, things to make coffee or tea, as well as a mini fridge. There is also complimentary wifi. Breakfast is downstairs at Mr Tompkins. It usually includes scrambled eggs, chicken sausages, bacon, mini hash browns or potatoes, cut up fruit (watermelon, honey dew, and cantaloupe). There's also orange juice and a coffee machine. Overall, I was happy with my stay at the Rendezvous Hotel. The only real problem was that only one of the elevators were working, making it difficult to go up and down. I eventually figured out where to find the stairs.
