It really did sound horrible... laugen dough (which is what pretzels are made of), Schmarrn (related to sourcream, or cream cheese, but not quite the same), local brats, kraut, cheese and tomatoes. I was prepared for a nightmare... but it ended up being delicious. The pizzas were served with a mini salad topping the middle of it. The dough was nice and thin and had that typical nice chewy crust all around. The ingredients worked surprisingly well together, but could have done without the tomatoes. Visually they were a nice pop of colors, but tastewise they had no business on the Franconian Pretzel pizza. I didn't try the vegetarian version, but my friend, who is a tiny person, ate the entire thing, whereas I could only finish half of mine. So I would say she enjoyed it. I had the pana cotta with blueberry compote and was delighted to see the compote made from the small blueberries I grew up with instead of these huge overbred tasteless blueberries so common nowadays. Finally, at 8:45 PM, we managed to get her attention to order more food, only to be told the kitchen was closed, despite it actually closing at 9:00 PM. I asked if I could have some bread for my hungry 1.5-year-old, but she walked away without taking an order. My father eventually went inside and spoke with the bartender, and we were able to place and receive extra food and beverage. I'm sharing my experience because I felt we were treated differently from other patrons, possibly because I'm Chinese and my son is biracial (my husband is white, British and American). No one should be treated differently based on race, gender, age, or sexuality. My son won't remember this, but I will. This was my first trip to Germany, and I believed here we would be treated equally. I certainly hope that when my son is my age and travels with his family, this won't happen to him.
