Whilst it pains me to give somewhere 2 stars, Fleet Street Kitchen deserves it.
Having been here previously for lunches not long after it had opened, I suggested Fleet Street for a friends Birthday meal/catchup on a (rather wet) Sunday afternoon.
I arrived at 5pm with yelp Elite, Oli M, and we ordered ourselves a glass of wine. All good thus far. Our Birthday girl then arrived and so we thought, it's now 5:20 (Our table was booked for 5:15) let's go site and wait for the other 2 guests.
Our table was not ready (In an almost empty restaurant)
So we went back to where we were sitting before and watch as staffed hurriedly transported chairs across the restaurant to a table in the informal drinking area. This table was meant for 4 people, not 5. We we then escorted to our table which by this point I wasn't very happy about. So, after umming and arrring I got up and asked the manager if we could have another table as this would not be able to fit us all on, especially since we were going to be having roast dinners, which have lots of separate dishes for sides. I was told that they had a party of 50 and there was no where else to be seated...
The last two guest arrived by this point and had noticed that we hadn't even been given any menus yet. So, one of the guest went and asked for menus to which he was asked why? He said because he's like some service. Menus came over however they wold not give us a roast menu, instead the waitress insisted on reading it all out, as if we were meant to remember it all.
After all this, the manger then returned telling us that a table had miraculously come available. We ordered food and drink and then waited to be fed.
The mains were very nice, though I ordered lamb and this apparently doesn't come with a Yorkshire pudding.... so take heed. Other party members asked for rare beef, it came well-done.
The final nail in the coffin came when the Birthday girl ordered ice cream for pudding and instead of getting the honeycomb she asked for, and Fleet Street not telling her, they instead just brought out chocolate, which she is allergic to. Great.
Overall a pretty terrible experience and it's not somewhere I would be rushing back to anytime soon. read more
