A couple of weeks ago I started my car and this 'Code 52' took over the dashboard speedometer…read morepanel. No check engine light - just the Code 52. I HATE when I have car issues because I dont really know how to fix it, other than to take it to the repair shop and then...... who knows, you know? So I googled it (of course!) and found out that because my car had just turned over to 100K miles, the Code 52 was an 'urgent' code stating that the timing belt (and water pump etc) needed to be replaced. Oh crud!! So I called around and got ball park estimates. The gamut ran from $1800 down to $800/$900. Well of course I wanted to go with the lowest possible but then someone suggested I give Jim Estes Garage a call. I am SO glad I did!! I spoke to the nicest man, Ron. He is (I think) the manager in charge of the garage. I explained to him what was going on and He gave me a quote which was a couple hundred dollars above the lowest, so I told him what they had quoted and Ron went back and reworked his figures and quoted me just a wee bit above the lowest garage!! I was impressed! I dropped my car off, and asked how much it would cost to have my transmission fluid checked and topped up if needed and he told me they would be checking all my fluid levels 'no charge' - What???!!! WOW!! I also told him not to worry about the TMP light (it had been flashing on for about a month- meaning, it seems, that either a TMP device had died or been lost) - that I would take care of it with my tire guy when I switched to my snow tires in a month. My car was done that afternoon, but I opted to wait until this morning to pick it up because my Daughter was able to give me a ride to the shop. I got there and the price was exactly as I expected so I was verrrrry happy! (you know what I mean, how many times do you get there and they tell you either that the price is a ton more OR they start trying to upsell you on something else that is 'wrong' with your car??) When I got in the car I noticed that not only was it running really well, but the TMP light was off!! Which meant they fixed it for me no charge!!!! I am SO impressed with Jim Estes Garage!! Not only are they fantastic Car Fixers, but they are just SO nice!! I will be taking my car to them for repairs from now on!!

Chad had the replacement reman NAG1 transmission on the shelf (unbelieveable!) and after we discussed what was going on, he got that sucker in the van and road tested in 48hrs. He coordinated with a friend for a 500-mile checkup as we headed into California and then provided some helpful phone-diag and recommendations when I had questions as well. I stopped by a few weeks later on the way home and they serviced the transmission. Fantastic price, great service and work, great people. The total package. I'd go back to Jacobsen every single time if it was an option! Thanks again Chad, you saved our trip!

These guys need some reviews. So we're adding ours. We went to them a few years back with my…read moreparents' car, which had "bumped" into some rocks near our cabin and scratched the fender area. In addition, part of the fender became lose and floppy (for lack of a better description). A Subaru dealer out of state wanted $2500 plus to repair. A local shop wanted $1500 to repair, if we didn't repaint all the scratches under the bumper area (caused by my elderly parents' diminishing driving skills). I took it to Salem Autobody on the reference of a mechanic I trusted. I told them them we could live with the scratches underneath, and what we most wanted was a fender that was attached well They asked me if I would leave it with authorization for them to spend up to $100 to get it attached right. I said sure. When i came back, they had it attached like new. The bill was under $10. Really: UNDER $10. When's the last time you heard of something like that? We've gone to them several times since. We've had paint work done and they are REALLY GOOD. They are honest and won't oversell you. We've worked with Matt. He's great. And the owner is the guy who gave us the bargain price to the fix to my parents' car. So our experience with everyone we've dealt with is five stars all around. They were very helpful and even though they ended up not being able to fix the problem, they didn't charge me some exhorbinate fee. It was only 42.50. That really helped. Aside from that I would like to point out that they were the opposite of most mechanics. I hate going to mechanics because everything they do is 100 bucks, but not at Carcraft, they are very reasonable. And I like that they don't try to make you feel like they can do something that they can't. If they can't fix it, they'll let you k now, if they can, they'll do their best. I saw them interacting with a lot of other customers and every customer that day left happy, including me.

I made the mistake of not doing these things and just taking the easy route by going to the place someone told me about without doing any of my own research and it really hurt. I paid for this in my personal time 20 times over at least and ended up having to get the same job done twice over . Also, if you've doubted my testament so far just read some other reviews that say the same thing - lack of professionalism, coming back to get the same work done twice and worst of all - being told I needed something replaced that didn't need to be. How do I know? Because the $1,400 item that needed to be replaced was justified because it was 'leaking'. a "bad seal", "have to replace the whole thing". Having learned my lesson on another $10,000 job done twice I investigated myself. Guess what? My power steering system is a new electric type that has no fluid, super weird, but chrysler confirmed "yea dude, it's technically impossible for there to be leaking fluid there because there is no fluid to leak". Turns out it was a messy oil change that spilled over - go figure. It's your life - waste your money if you want, tell yourself that won't happen to me. LOL. Do your thing.
