Poor Equipments. Staff are terrible. We went there as two couples. we rented a paddle boat. as soon as we started we called them advised that the equipment is not working, it's just not paddling as it's supposed to be. they said we will be right with you, after waiting for more than 30 minutes not moving in the water, the staff came and he started pushing us back toward the dock. And he goes like nothing wrong with the equipment it's moving. I requested to call the manager to look at the camera to actually see that the equipment was not even working, then Zack replied and I requested to replace the equipment only he's like oh ok just send us an email and we will see what we can do. This is the worst paddling I have ever been to. read more

Great day for kayaking on the Monksville Reservoir. Friendly knowledgeable staff who was very helpful. It was my birthday the day we went and we had a great time read more

Customer service adds to the experience. Drip rings on paddles help keep you dry in the kayak. The staff gave me a paddle without rubber rings causing me to become wet from the water. I asked the staff to show me their paddles and the paddles they have had the drip rings on them. My experience would have been better with them. The staff need to pay attention to detail for the experience. read more

I had a great customer service experience with Teresa. Upon seeing my reservation, she quickly emailed me to confirm the number of participants for my reservation and offer to adjust my reservation accordingly. I had inadvertantly booked 3 paddle boats instead of listing 3 participants for 1 paddle boat rental. My credit card was refunded moments after sending her updated details. The day of our reservation weather was terrible. Teresa took the time to message me several hours ahead of our scheduled 11 am rental that due to thunder storms in the area they would be closed for the day. In addition she offered to transfer our reservation to another date or provide a full refund. Sadly, we where only in the area as a daytrip and could not select a future date to use their services and equipment. My reservation was refunded in full swiftly. Our party did make it to the lake and boat house area and had a great picnic experience. The area where Flatwater Paddle operates from was clean, well maintained and had clear signage. If we lived closer or knew we would be in the area again I would 100% go out of my way to rebook with this company. They are friendly, go above and beyond and have excellent communication with customers - even when operations are closed for the day. Thank you for providing one of the best customer interactions we had on a stormy ugly day! read more

I have been going to this place several times with my little dogs during the summer season. Most of time I was alone with my little dogs but I never felt uncomfortable. Staff are friendly, patient and very helpful. I wish I would have known about this place a little bit earlier!! Rental price is very reasonable. Can reserve the paddle boards, kayaks, canoes on their website. I heard it can get very crowded during peak season. All the rental comes with life vest with quick instruction. They do offer some classes and yoga with SUP. They don't have changing rooms or bathrooms. Just portable potty on spot. I can't wait to go back with my dogs again!! read more

Had an excellent time on monksville reservoir with sup and kayak rentals from Flatwater! The lake is beautiful, calm, undeveloped ( most of the shore is state park) and a perfect size for our group. The equipment, service, and price were great. Was really tempted to try the 4-person dragon sup racing board which they had available! One slight complaint is that some of us were given sup paddles that were relatively straight instead of angled forward. These maybe are easier for beginners or casual paddling? I think if you are used to paddling with the angled forward paddle make sure to request it because they have both. read more

My friend and I came here on a whim. Did not plan on paddle boarding or anything. The folks who operate this business were extremely pleasant. Helpful. And friendly. They didn't want to steer you away from having fun even if they were busy. We were told to hang on for an hour to be accommodated on short notice. But boy we had a great time! Rented a Double Kayak for 1 hour was $35. Not bad. read more

My boyfriend and dog and I had such an amazing time paddle boarding Memorial Day Weekend. The reservoir is super serene and beautiful. This is an ideal escape from the city any weekend. The drive is also enjoyable. I loved that it is dog friendly. I didn't think to get a dog life vest before this, but Chaz had great tips on how to get your dog back on the board if they fall off. My dog did fall off but I was able to get her back on the board very quickly and effectively. The staff was also super helpful and zen. Again, great weekend activity that's low key but active! Will definitely come back this summer. read more

We have rented kayaks through Greenwood several times. Overall a very pleasant experience! They do tend to get very crowded on nice days, so making a reservation is recommended. The kayaks are all pretty nice but the life vests look like they have seen better days and do have a funky odor. The staff is beyond nice and they help you get in and out of the kayaks as well as answer questions. My reason for 4 stars (versus 5) is due to the process for actually getting into the boat. There are a few "steps" made from rocks that are quite slippery with no handrail or anything to grab onto. There is a rubber mat inside of the water to step onto (once you are already in the water) but no safety precautions prior. read more

My husband and I had an overall good time paddle boarding. We made a reservation for 4pm and arrived 15 minutes early like the website said. The one unfortunate thing that happened was when were waiting around about 10 minutes before 4pm and one of the girls said she would call us at 4 when they were ready for us. We watched several people who were "walk ins" go ahead of us to paddle board. Then at 4:05 my husband went back over to the table to speak the workers and a different girl looked us up again in her reservation book and sent us over to the line to get life vests. There wasn't enough adult ones left so we had to wait for someone to be done in the water. It took only a few more minutes, but it was annoying. Our reservation was for 4 and we arrived early and launched late due to the staff not being as organized as they could have been by letting walk ins go ahead of people with reservations. I would go back and give it a second chance. The reservoir really was beautiful and peaceful, but my husband said that for him he won't be trying this place again. read more

Absolutely love love love this place! This is my second time coming here and I had such a fun time with my friends and dogs. I reserved four paddleboards online two weeks in advance and chose up to four hours as the time limit. The cost was very reasonable.. only $35 and it comes with a life vest. Once you arrive, you have to check in and sign the waivers - only takes about 5 mins. Then they will give you paddles and set you up to go onto the lake! If you are bringing dogs, make sure to bring a yoga mat so the dogs don't scratch up the boards... they make you pay $100 safety deposit in case that happens (reasonable). Feel free to bring sandwiches or food and have a picnic on the lake (just make sure you do not throw any garbage in the lake!). Customer service here is A1! Everyone who works here has such a friendly attitude and it does make you feel very welcoming. 10/10 would recommend this place if you enjoy paddleboarding/kayaking! read more

Yesterday was the first and last time I will use this company. I was put into a kayak that was drenched in urine. I was beyond disgusted! The full refund was not enough to cover the cost of my aquatic shorts or my mental state knowing I sat in someone's piss. The staff are obviously not checking or cleaning the equipment after it's been used. Never again! read more

My boyfriend and I went paddle boarding over this past weekend and we had a blast. The staff was friendly and helpful. The prices were more than reasonable. The lake was beautiful with plenty of room to explore. We are looking forward to our next time back! Thanks Flatwater! read more

Great place to rent kayaks for the day. I drove here from queens (Astoria) and it took just about an hour. It's a very easy drive. The booking situation was very simple. I reserved the kayaks/time slot online, and I got confirmation within 24 hours. I would recommend doing this, as it seemed pretty booked up (we came on a Sunday.) The prices are reasonable ($30 for 2 hours of kayaking. so $60 for 2 rentals). Since I payed ahead of time when I made the reservation it was really easy to get going once we got there. The lake was big and beautiful. Lots to explore in 2 hours time. The water was calm, so it was easy to go quick in the kayak. The employees are also very very nice. The whole situation is organized and I would recommend them and visit again. just an FYI, there is no bathroom (only a porta potty), and no changing area. This is not a negative for me, but I feel like that info should be available to those who care. read more

My husband and I came here to rent stand-up paddle boards and we had the best time. This launch area isn't too busy and is absolutely SPOTLESS. Just went with a group of friends yesterday and had a blast! Staff was helpful and nice. Would definitely come again!

I gave this three stars primarily because I was disappointed in the lesson. The lake is lovely, and paddle board rental seemed reasonable. Four stars if the "lesson" had been an actual lesson. The owner, Chaz led my friends and me onto and around the lake after a brief and useless on land overview of paddle boarding. He showed more strokes than beginners would need on a first outing, which was confusing. Once we were on the water, he stayed at the front, showing off for the people who were doing well. Those of us who were struggling just had to figure it out on our own. Go, but watch a video first. Don't waste $ on the lesson. Also, though the website tells you to bring water shoes, when you're there, they'll tell you it's more important for your feet to feel the board. read more

This was a great experience. They made it so easy and convenient. They were there to help you in and out of the water and if you need a special instructions they were always there. Great Steph. read more

First time renting from Flatwater and it was great! My friend and I planned to reserve our boards separately for the 3-5pm time slot but unfortunately by the time my friend went to reserve hers, the time slot was no longer available. I then asked via email for my reservation to be cancelled as I didn't want to go alone. Theresa replied within half an hour and said she could add a 2nd board to my reservation if I wanted. My friend and I were so happy! The online reservation process, reservation update via email, online waiver signing, and actual check in to get our boards was all super easy. Their prices are really reasonable both for board rental and the personal flotation device (if you don't already have one). Will definitely rent from them again! read more

I had a great time with Greenwood Lake Paddleboards! A friend and I decided to take a day off to explore the great outdoors during fall before the weather got too cold. Theresa, who was super friendly and helpful, coordinated a meet up time and came down just to help us get the kayaks out. The reservoir was gorgeous, and we went to the Northern Launch site and back, and were out for a total of around two hours. Great fall foliage trip, or would be a lot of fun in the summer too! read more

We visit Monksville reservoir every year and rent our paddle boards and kayaks from this company. They have good equipment, very courteous service and no issues. My family had a great experience this weekend thanks to GWL Paddleboards! The day started out not so nice and someone from GWL called us to let us know what the weather looked like at the water and offered to reschedule, we decided to make the best of it and keep our reservation. When we arrived their team was very nice and helpful - they got us in the kayaks and out to the water quickly and easily. Once out there we got the hang of it and had a great time. The scenery is breathtaking! I would highly recommend this experience to anyone especially first timers - GWL made it so easy! We can't wait to go back! read more

Prices are reasonable, staff is friendly and accommodating, and booking is easy. The place is only open on weekends...if you call during the week to reserve, they may not answer, but they are VERY good with returning phone calls. I've rented both paddleboards and kayaks from this place, and the experiences have been awesome for both! Time slot rentals are for 1, 2, and 4 hour increments. My only complaint is that paddleboard rentals book up fast, so you gotta reserve like a day ahead of time. But, even if you show up and nothing is available at that moment, the staff will do everything they can to find a time slot for you that day/weekend! read more
