My experience with Flash Cab was scary, expensive and frustrating.
I hailed a cab at O'Hare around 1am. My flight had been delayed, I missed my connection and I was given a voucher to stay at a hotel approximately 20 minutes from the airport.
I was picked up in a Flash Cab and told the driver where I was going, and that my ultimate destination was Green Bay, where I'd be flying to in the morning. He said "why don't I just drive you to Green Bay?" I brushed it off as a joke. He asked again and I ignored him, but he seemed seriously interested in driving me four hours north at 1am.
I gave him the hotel address, he put it in his GPS and told me it would take 40 minutes to get there. This didn't seem right. I put it in my phone and saw that it was 20 minutes away. I'm not sure where he was trying to take me, but I asked him to use the directions on my phone. I got a creepy vibe from him, especially as a woman alone in the middle of the night.
He pulled up to the hotel and told me the charge was $130. I scoffed, but he said that this was the price for a late night ride. It didn't feel right, but at this point I was just deliriously tired and ready to lay down. I paid him the $130, for a 20-ish minute drive.
The receipt I received from the transaction was not from Flash Cab, from from "Muneer Meat Market." This was strange, obviously. When I checked into the hotel the concierge told me the drive should have been much less expensive.
I immediately called Flash Cab, but none of the dispatchers were able to help me, shuffling me around until eventually I just got frustrated and went to sleep, upset with the feeling that I had been ripped off.
I kept calling in the following days and weeks. It took a long time to get someone from Flash Cab to return my call. I filed a police report per the advice of one of the dispatchers. Eventually I was put in touch with a rep from Flash Cab, Anna. I explained to her the situation and she said she looked at the GPS history of the drivers out that night and said there was no record of the driver dropping me off at the hotel. Wtf.
She also told me about what are referred to as "ghost cabs," where drivers use vehicles that have the logo of a particular cab company but are not actually registered to that company. She took no responsibility for the situation. Given the nature of other reviews of this company, I suspect she was lying to me about not being able to track the cab.
Bottomline: Anna allegedly has no idea who picked me up that night and did not reimburse me after being scammed. I kept calling to try and rectify the situation; they stopped returning my calls. I simply wanted to be reimbursed for the overage. They clearly did not care. Passenger safety is not a priority for this company.
