If I could give zero stars, I would. I ordered a cab to pick me up at work to take me to Midway for a flight. I ordered the cab for 5:30, but 5 minutes before they're supposed to arrive, they call to say they'll be 10-15 minutes late. I wait until 5:45, and they're still not there. I call back to see what the hold up is only to be told that no cab had been dispatched to me. When I asked why I had not been called and told this, I was told that ordering a cab is not a guarantee that one will actually show up. Needless to say, I work 15 minutes from Midway, but missed my flight due to their incompetence. I will never use their service again. read more

Flash cab is the absolute worst taxi company. I have never not been completely disappointed in their services. Booked a 4:45am cab the day prior to go to the airport for an early flight. No cab showed up, on the app the cab was still "waiting for driver" and when I called all I got was an automated message, ringing and ringing. Ended up having to cancel the ride in the app and call an Uber. And I had to sprint to my flight which I honestly shouldn't have made, I was over 20 minutes late. Point of the story: Do not Ever trust Flash cab if you actually have to be somewhere. If you're wary of Uber, just use the Uber app to call a regular taxi or call a more reliable service and book a taxi with an ACTUAL person on the phone. When I called Flash Cab, their automated message basically said "use the app, use the app, use the app" but their app is horrible and basically doesn't work. Oh, also they called me at 5:30am asking if I still needed a cab... are you kidding me? read more

I've used Flash Cab 3 times successfully, but NEVER again. I came to find out about Flash Cab recently when another cab company left me stranded on my way to the airport, I was lucky enough to hail a Flash Cab off of Lincoln Avenue. At the time the driver informed me that the other cab company did not have a very good dispatch service, that he had worked for them and that Flash had its shit together. I should have seen trouble when on the 2nd trip they were about 10 minutes late, but I was traveling to the airport during the evening rush for an international flight and left plenty of time. On my most recent experience, they completely screwed me. I was again traveling to the airport during rush hour, I had made my reservation the night before using their website and received an email and a calendar appointment as well as a text message confirming my pick-up the next morning. The time of pick-up arrives and I receive a phone call from dispatch telling me they are looking for a car for me...and they will call me back. After 15 minutes of waiting, I begin to dig-out my car, now 22 minutes late I'm finally on the road. Some 35 minutes after my pick-up time they call to ask if I still need a cab?! Who runs a business like this? I for one will never use their services again. read more

Ew, Flash Cab. A bunch of friends and I got Flash Cab vouchers to use to attend a company event. The Flash Cabs were super-late, tried to convince us to cram in (I will not--it's illegal, and I'm going to, um, die if you crash), and then didn't show up after the event to take us home. What exactly was wrong with telling us something like "Hey, we don't have enough cabs running tonight, we're going to be late?" Or "Hey, we don't have two cabs, only one?" Hmm, that's right--THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG IT. Ew. Just ew. read more

Uh... Called Flash Cab around 11:00 on a Friday night. Was on hold for about 5 minutes... finally talked to someone who said they'd send a cab "right out." I got a confirmation text, and then a few other worthless texts from Flash Cab. I pray that they will not fill up my text inbox with spam messages. Anyway... waited 15 minutes and n-o-t-h-i-n-g. Finally decided to change shoes (stupid heels) and walk a few blocks to hail a cab instead. When I called Flash Cab to cancel, they told me that they had no record of a cab request from my number. Like the concept, hate the execution. read more

I have used Flash Cab while standing out on the street and also used the web order service. Out on the street would have been fine, except that the cab driver gave me crap about using a credit card - saying his machine didn't work - after swiping my card - which made me very nervous. With the cost of cabs these days, it makes sense to offer customers the ability to pay with a credit card so I will never understand these cabbies. Not to mention, it just isn't safe to carry much cash in the City of Chicago - regardless of where you are in the city. They really need to adjust their attitudes about this. That's one of the things I've hated about Chicago since my return; some people are just too old school and behind the times. Fresh out of the hospital, I needed to get to a doctor appointment. I filled out the cab order online, put on my coat and proceeded to wait in the vestibule of my building. On the order, I asked that the driver let me know when he pulled up - as it was often hard to see from the window of the vestibule. I also indicated that I may need help getting into the cab. I waited and waited. Finally, I could see that no one picked up the order. I'd heard about discrimination among cab drivers when it came to disabled people - so it was clear that no one wanted to be bothered to help me get into a cab. It was absolutely freezing outside with ice all over the sidewalk - and I was terrified that I would fall in the short distance to a cab. I was very unsteady. Since no one bothered to pick up the order, I called to order a cab. I mentioned that I needed the driver to let me know when he pulled up and that I may need help getting into the cab. Again, I waited and waited and waited. No one ever let me know a cab was in the vicinity. Turns out, the cab showed up and then said I didn't. So it registered as a no show. Why they can't at least let customers know they are outside is beyond me. Especially in the friggin' dead of winter. I guess Flash Cab got enough business just with people out on the street, cuz they sure didn't need my business. But they needn't worry - because they'll never get it again. read more

So it's my best friend's birthday. I decide it would be best for all of us to grab a cab for our night out so no one would have to be the designated driver. It seemed like a great idea at the time. I had used Flash Cab a million times before this incident. I called a little over an hour ahead of time for our cab. Five minutes before our cab was to arrive I get a phone call saying that they would not be there on time. This has clearly got to be a joke. We had dinner reservations at 9 for Carnivale. They say they will get a cab out to us asap. Well....lo and behold another five minutes passes and I call back to see if they can just send two cabs instead of a van. I get attitude from the rep on the line and finally asked to speak to a manager who told me that the original person I spoke with should not have taken the reservation and that reservations weren't guaranteed. That is not my fault he took a reservation he was not supposed to, nor was it disclosed to me that the reservation that I had made an hour ago wasn't guaranteed. The manager was very unsympathetic to my complaint and I let him know that I would NEVER use Flash Cab again and would be sure to let everyone that I know to avoid them as well. Thus me sharing my story with you. We ended up having to drive and just as we are pulling off I received one of those dreadful text messages saying that my cab had been dispatched. I called them right back to let them know that they can keep their cab and that they just lost 6 customers. read more

I get the feeling that, like the post office, Yelpers aren't motivated to write reviews of taxi services when they've had a positive experience; only a negative one. From beginning to end my experience was excellent. Booked online the night before, received a text message when the cab was dispatched and the cabbie was 5 minutes early. Cab #2034 was clean and the driver was exceedingly pleasant. read more

I know it may seem weird to review a cab company, but I like to give credit where credit is due. I've used Flash Cab a few times and have always had a really good experience. The cabs always show up promptly, and I really like that you can order them from an app. Every cab that I've received has been VERY clean. And with all the traveling I do and the cabs I take, that is hard to find. The drivers I've had have always been fast too, which I Really appreciate. : ) I'll for sure continue to use Flash Cab! read more

Called for a cab. After 30 minutes I called and gave my confirmation number to see how much longer the cab would be and was told they didn't have a driver yet and was sorry they couldn't help me. I just started a new project requiring a weekly Monday morning ride to the airport early. I scheduled a ride the night before using their app, Curb, for a 5:30 AM pickup which would give me enough time to make my flight. I would be patient if the taxi were a few minutes late or let me know the night before that there were insufficient cabs. Instead Flash Cab did the single worst thing: cancel my ride at 5:25. There was no phone call; just a little notice on my phone from the app. This is especially troublesome at a time where it's difficult to get another cab. For me, that's a first strike offense. Will actively avoid from now on. Given the pressure from rideshare programs (which saved me this morning), I'm surprised the taxi companies are not trying harder to provide a better service and catch up with their competitors. read more

I fly from O'Hare every Monday morning and have been a loyal Flash customer for years however after almost missing 3 flights in the past 2 months due to my cabs not showing up at the committed time (I order a day in advance), I am done with them. I am currently in an Uber I had to call due to Flash stranding me yet again and plan to just use them or a black car going forward. This is no way to run a business! You cannot make a commitment to a customer (who is relying on your service to make a flight) to be somewhere at a certain time and then no honor it. Fed up with Flash and moving on. read more

Tonight I had a horrible experience with flash cab. After I ordered a cab, Flash cab called with an automated message saying the cab had arrived. It was not there. I called Flash cab, at which point a dispatcher apologized and told me they would get back to me as soon as they could contact the driver. I am now stranded outside in an iffy neighborhood at 10:30 p.m. as I couldn't get back into the house where I had been waiting. 20 minutes later, after I had walked to the nearest el station through more iffiness, I get a phone call that a cab is on the way. I hit the cancel button, only to hear the most irritating automated message of all time: "In the future please give us advance notice I'd you want to cancel." **** them! read more

I made a reservation for 8am this morning for a cab so my business partner and I could go to a big "pitch" meeting. At 8am, Flash Cab called and said "we're running late. someone will call you with an ETA." Fortunately, we had allowed extra time, and even more fortunately, we managed to hail a cab - because they finally called us, to give us the ETA, at 8:27am. Almost half an hour after our reservation. It was a snowy morning, but this is unacceptable for a reserved cab. Fortunately we made it to the meeting on time. read more

I wish I could give negative stars. Do NOT use this service if you need to be anywhere on time.... or be anywhere, in fact. NEVER make a reservation. There is a strong possibility that they will never show up. If you are out in the burbs or the outskirts of Chicago, you may have luck. If you are in the city, forget it. You're chopped liver. I am a science teacher. Last year I was traveling with a few students to compete in the citywide science fair. Since I cannot drive them in my own personal vehicle, I decided to order up a cab. I called an hour before pickup. They never showed. After I called about 4 times, every 15 minutes or so, they still never showed up or let me know any sort of status. They never could seem to give me a clear explanation. We ended up taking a bus and the train to get to the science fair and were nearly an hour late. Needless to say, the kids were disappointed and I was furious. Flash forward to this year. We had our first significant snowfall. It was also very cold out, but roads were pretty clear. Same situation. Need to get the kids to the competition. I decide to give Flash Cab another try and call the night BEFORE to make a reservation. They do not show up. I call to find out what is going on. They say they still "haven't found a cab." I explain that that is precisely why I called the night before so they would be prepared. They proceed to tell me that they have no idea how long it will be. I ask if it will be an hour and the dispathcher sounds shocked, saying "of course not." I politely say I will wait and hang up. 20 more minutes pass. By now we are about an hour late. I call again. No clear answers except "they will call when they find someone." I decide to take the CTA with my students. We are late to the fair, but they did come in 2nd place. As for Flash Cab? They never did call. NEVER, I repeat, NEVER make a reservation. read more

I'm at a loss. Somebody needs to put these guys out of business. I hope it is Uber, frankly. This kind of horsecrap is just unacceptable. I know I'm calling Flash the smart kid in the dumb row but I'm still shocked at the below average grades. I wonder if all the negative reviewers have a corresponding positive review of the cab company they prefer? Because remember, you don't have to be perfect (or even very good) to be the best available. As a long time bartender I've used every dispatch company of which I'm aware. I've got a pretty good idea of service and response for both my current area (Irving Park) and the city in general. It may be relative to the other crappy companies out there but aside from a car service or a private limo driver... Flash is about as good as it gets. Not only do they accept on-line and text cab requests but they have gps tracking in each vehicle. When I'm putting drunk women in cabs at my bar I like the idea that we can go back and track the movements of the cab if need be. We've never had to. I've had many drivers be very, very patient and accommodating with the type of customer a bartender is helping into a cab at 3:40 in the morning. I've also had drivers return cell phones and other property left in their backseat to the bar rather than ransom it like many do. I personally use Flash and while not perfect, the nature of cab dispatch doesn't seem to lend itself to perfection, they're as good as it gets. They are relatively fast, relatively reliable and the cabs are relatively clean. If someone knows of a better dispatch company on the NW side please message me. I'll give them a try. Oh ya... one aside. To the one star reviewer who called a cab for a trip to the airport and ended up missing the flight- next time don't go on the cheap. That's what guys in black suits driving town cars are for. Welcome to the big city. Yeesh. read more

Worst cab experience of my life. Not only did the "driver" continue to chat on the phone in a different language the entire time but when I realized my wallet was gone and I needed to run inside for cash, he made me leave everything in the vehicle while I ran to my apartment. Then he swore at me when I refused to tip him, wouldn't give me my change and then flicked me off several times and wouldn't give me any change back. Then he threatened where I lived and said my address several times to remember it. I called to complain (as I've literally never tipped a cab driver less than 20 percent my entire life) & had to leave a message. Really great customer service.... I'm so deeply disturbed by this that it is safe to say I will only take the CTA again and will probably never cab it again. Cab # 5090 read more

Gave 1 star only because you can not give a -2 Star. Called at 9:45. Recv'd text at 9:50 that taxi 136 was dispatched to me, would arrive in 5 minutes. Waited 45 minutes for Pickup. Told driver, ".... fastest way to Midway, I have a 11:00 AM flight." I also asked what took you so long. HE said, " I only got the this pick-up 5 minutes ago. I showed him My cell with the text message from his dispatch. His reply was "OH, well, I just got it...." Followed a city bus for a long time, until I said, "If I wanted to take the bus to Midway, I would have gotten on the bus, get around this bus !" His reply was, "don't worry we will get to the airport by 11:00". I told him, "11 is when my plane takes off". I started counting stop lights. Out of the 75 Stop lights I counted on the way, Driver did outstanding job, only missed stopping at one, but not really the drivers fault, it was green at the time. No matter how much the driver managed to slow down, that pesky green light refused to change. I hate this cab company. They burned me more than once, it's their darn "flashy" name that kept me coming back, thinking they're so fast, it's just not true! I have used Flash Cab for years and for me personally they have always been pretty good. They give me an estimated arrival time and they call when they arrive. Like I said, this is my opinion and my experiences..........always have been "OK" for me. Its also fun to talk dirty with the cabbies.........they are solid perverts!! read more

Flash cab equips their cabs with GPS transceivers, it's how they know where the taxis are (and it's how their app tracks their cabs). So with that in mind, when Flash cab makes a commitment to pick you up within some period of time with a special vehicle (i.e. a minivan), they should immediately know whether or not the vehicle is available. Unfortunately, that's not at all how it works and should you actually need that cab to show up within the specified time, expect to be disappointed. Like many now former Flash cab customers, I am moving to Uber for all my needs. Go home, Flash Cab, you're drunk. read more

I've only used this service to get to the airport in the early morning hours...which is usually for business, though I have used them for a mid day trip for a personal international flight, so this is only for a going perspective. They allow online requests....see website here..http://www.flashcab.com...or you can call it in. I suggest doing it the day before and look out for them...if you live in a neighborhood with similar buildings they may struggle, so I'd be out front of your place at the right time. Oh yea, they always show up a minute or two early. BUT they ALWAYS show up. I wouldn't recommend this service if you are partying at night, etc....just hail a cab. It was pretty good. Quite good. I use it to get out of the bars and nightclubs on the North Side with good results. They do accept credit cards, but I had ran into problems when their credit card acceptor machines on their cabs sometimes malfunction. But be careful trying to order Flash cab around 12:30 a.m. to about 2:30 a.m. on weekdays, and on weekends, especially.. This is when a lot of people leave Chicago bars by way of taxis back to their homes, and a lot of these people order Flash Cab, and the dispatch calls can be so heavy that sometimes you are put on hold for as much as 3-6 minutes even on your cell phone; so it can be rather difficult to order a Flash cab at that point. When you finally get hold of the Flash Cab dispatcher, the dispatcher will likely put you on hold for 15 minutes to up to 40 minutes before the "dispatch" taxi is finally booked. At other times, booking a Flash Cab will have virtually no logjams in dispatching or booking...hence, a good time to call them if you need a taxi especially on the North Side of Chicago. read more

Booking from their app? Beware. Booked a van for a ride to midway hours out only to call 5 minutes AFTER the van was supposed to pick me up and learn that apparently there are only a few vans in their fleet and they would dispatch one when they were available. Old? Disabled? Avoid Flash. In years past when I rarely needed a cab in Chicago, I would call Flash. Now the only thing I intend to call them is "defendant". With age has come disability and I've become more dependent on reliable cab service. Today I called Flash from downtown Chicago, asked for a minivan, was told it would be at least thirty minutes. Okay, that's believable. But with disability and my walker, I am more comfortable with a walker. 35 minutes later they called me to tell me that no minivans were available, although I had observed several without passengers pass by on Monroe St. while I waited. I asked for a regular cab, anything because standing was becoming uncomfortable. Ten, fifteen minutes I was told. You know the rest of the story. No Flash. I called and they told me no Flash cabs were available in the area and they had no idea of when I might get one. I hobbled over to a nearby hotel which was a not a fun venture and within the space of a few minutes saw Flash cabs taking on passengers as the doorman hailed them. No cabs available indeed - for the disabled who might require assistance. I may be old, I may be disabled, but I still know how to involve enforcement and regulatory agencies and how to file a lawsuit. Flash apparently thinks it can, in a sense run over old cripples. Wrong. And you can bet I won't be using them again - and I suggest you don't either. Jerry read more

I'd heard good things about Flash being the most reliable cab company, and since Yellow Cab has decided it hates me when we needed to transport a group of Yelper ladies to the holiday party last night I chose to call Flash. When I called I specifically requested a van because there were too many of us to fit into a car. He even asked me how many of us there were, thus confirming we would need a van. I asked him to pick us up at 6:10. "So, 6:15?" No, 6:10. That should have been the first red flag. When he didn't ask me to confirm my phone number should have been the second red flag. At 6:08 my phone rang and I thought, "score! 2 minutes early!" Then the woman crushed all my hopes and dreams and informed me that with a group that large we would need a van and there were none available. To which I replied, "yes, I know we need a van... which is why I requested one when I called." She said my request didn't make it into the order. "Do you still want a cab?" Um, yeah. Why else would I CALL A CAB COMPANY? Luckily we decided to not wait for them and just brave the cold and hail two separate cabs. And they didn't even call me back for another half an hour, after we were already inside the party. Way to suck at life, Flash Cab. read more

I was a little hesitant using Flash Cab to take me to the airport after reading some of the so-so reviews. Because my work "strongly" encourages us to use Flash, I went ahead and booked a reservation online a few days before I left. It was easy, even after I changed my pick-up time 24 hours prior to leaving! I received email confirmations within minutes and made note of the confirmation numbers on my phone (because you just never know!). My driver was a tad bit early, but I'd rather have early than not show up at all. The one thing I had an issue with the online system is that it does not allow you to note if you will be using a voucher from work. I told the driver up front that I would be using one, and he seemed ok with it. read more

So I previously wrote that Flash cab was amazing... In the past, I had made reservations using the online system to pick me up at a certain time and date and it worked out perfectly. They give you a confimration number and send a text message to let you know that your reservation is confirmed. Furthermore, they send you a text when the cab is dispatched and when the cab arrives! I thought this service was great! Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaan was I disappointed! I was scheduled to go to NYC and I scheduled a cab the day before my flight to take me to the airpirt. As stated above, I recieved a confirmation from the company. Unfortunately for me, there was a snow storm the day I was to leave. I waited for the cab for over an hour. I attempted to call the company over this time period and was only able to get through one time. I was assured that though the cab was running late...it would still be there. Well the cab never came. I was fortuante enough to eventually hail another cab (after a long time waiting) and make my flight. Though the website is convenient apparently if it doesn't work whats the point?! read more

Never again! Last Saturday I ordered a cab via text which took forever to acknowledge so I called Dispatch Taxi in the meantime to cover my bases in order to make a 7pm reservation at Mastros. Based on the reviews I have read here I still want to stay loyal to Flash Cab simply because for some reason I've never had a problem with them. Maybe it's cos I live in a neighbourhood where everyone drives and doesn't rely on cabs and CTA to get around. I think the lesson for us all is to order online so at least they have your order in print and they can't deny it and if you are going to drunkenly order one after a night of hard partying I honestly think your only choice is to hail one from the street. I don't know what else to say. Anyhow I want to write about my most recent experience: Here I was on my last day working in the suburbs. I was in the car of my coworkers on the way to the Metra and for some reason my dumb ass convinced them to stop at the liquor store for a large Fat Tire. Needless to say we pulled up the station seeing the train leave. Flash Cab to the rescue! I was a little scared they might be different from the service I got in Chicago but they were the same. My cabbie was awesome and not a pervert like some cabbies can be. For 40 miles we talked our heads off, being nerdy about photography. I was not happy to part with the hefty cab fare but at least I was able to enjoy beer and good conversation. read more
