This is more or less a ruin of what it once was but the history is totally here as you can see just how much work it was having this facility in the swamp as it's literally in the heart of it! The area is fenced off but for good reason as I'm sure if you were to get closer to the structure it might not be that safe. We spent a little bit here as it was quite fascinating to just enjoy the structure and the atmosphere. Overall a super cool part of Florida's history that you should totally check out if your in the area as who doesn't love sugar and rum!

Memorial Bridge in Palatka is the city's third river crossing, a continuous prestressed concrete…read morebox‑girder span completed in 1976 to replace the older 1927 drawbridge that had carried two lanes across the Saint Johns River. The current bridge stretches 4020 feet from Palatka to East Palatka, rising to a 65‑foot clearance that lets river traffic pass without interruption. It carries four lanes of US 17 and SR 100 along with sidewalks on both sides, a typical mid‑1970s Florida highway profile. Architecturally, it's a straightforward piece of state infrastructure with its concrete box girders resting on evenly spaced piers that echo the calm, broad character of the Saint Johns. The bridge's name and identity come from the earlier 1927 structure, which was built to honor Putnam County's military service members. That bridge featured four bronze military statues, two on each end, standing as guardians over the crossing. Those figures, often called the Doughboy statues, were preserved and today still stand at the foot of the modern bridge, continuing the memorial purpose that shaped the original span. There is no toll to cross the bridge. If you're walking, use caution as there is only the curb and a narrow breakdown lane between the pedestrian area and the roadway. Patrons of the SE Brach of St John's County Public Library:…read moreToday the librarian told me I returned 2 books in damaged format. Yes, 1 Book I will own up to and will have to replace, but the 2nd book had not any noteworthy damage. However, the librarian told me I would have to pay roughly $57.00 to replace both books. I feel this is outrageous, and I wonder why the library system does not have a refurbishing team. In my former state and library system, there was a refurbishing team set up to repair damaged goods. I pay my taxes to the state of FL which also pays for their county libraries and yet I am now double paying for damaged goods. This does not seem fair. So, patron of the library system please be aware of your materials. Also of note, the librarian named Jocelyn accosted me outside the library about the damaged materials. I feel angered by her malicious onset outside the library in the parking lot. This sort of behavior should have been handled in a more professional manner.

On public land, totally legal. Sarah, the manager at the library told him he wasn't wanted and he must be at least 50 feet away, across the street. He respectfully told her that he was on public land and that he was fine were he was. She sent security out to tell him to leave. He stayed. A gaggle of 'Karens' came out to tell him how wrong he was and one called 911, lying to the operator by saying he was getting loud, though he was the quietest one there. The police came, and informed the library staff that they were wrong and that Jeff was right, that he didn't have to leave just because they didn't like the way he looked or his message, 'God Bless Homeless Vets'. Betcha none of them served our country as they look down upon others who have. Maybe they should read the Constitution there at the library. You embarrassed yourself, Sarah, for all to see.
