Our initial room had a view of the wall next door and air conditioning units. I didn't want a week of a crappy view, so we asked to stay on a higher floor and they obliged with our request. We ended up in room 510 with a much better view of the town. The room was clean and modern, but the bathroom seemed small and the shower's partial glass meant water was continually spilling out onto the bathroom floor. Maybe add a full glass shower door? The exterior windows could use a washing as well. Seeing lots of spiderwebs (outside) was icky. There is no self-parking either. Valet parking is $30/day; not bad as I've stayed at other hotels (i.e., San Francisco and Los Angeles) where overnight parking is $75-$85. The hotel staff were all very friendly and helpful. P.S. You may be wondering about the "questionable brushes with the paranormal" comment. Two strange occurrences happened to my bf who doesn't believe in anything paranormal. First was at the hotel lobby restroom. As he was washing his hands, the soap bottle moved a good 6 inches on its own. He lifted the bottle, thinking there was water underneath that caused it to move across the surface. Nope, no water. Side note; there's an old urinal from 1913 in the men's restroom located in that same bathroom (hotel lobby). Perhaps the ghosts like old urinals. Second, my bf went to the back exit, in an attempt to walk up the staircase that would eventually lead to the rooftop. When he saw there was a musician performing at the top staircase of the rooftop, he came back down and tried using his key card to enter the hotel. Spent a good ten minutes before he called me and asked to let him in. I met him at the door, he explained what happened. I used his key card to see if there was an issue with the card. Nope, key card worked and let me right in. In this situation, it could have been an odd glitch, but I do find it interesting that this happened right after the soap bottle incident. Last note... we were talking to a bartender from another restaurant who had worked at this hotel as a bartender a few years ago. She said she was closing up the bar one night and a basket from a top shelf had fallen off. It was only her and one other person and neither were near the area. Spooked her out quite a bit! COMING BACK? Absolutely. There are some minor inconveniences that I mentioned, but there was so much more that I loved about this hotel, especially its historic vibe.

The WiFi worked well & our room was quiet. There was plenty of free parking in front. There was a small pool, fitness room & worn washer & dryer. Pool? What pool? There isn't one, so don't expect to find one if you go looking for it. I don't even see where a pool could have been. They have a dog turn out relief area and have tools to pick up after your pet. Check for dog crap before you let your dog out. They have a rake a dog scoop for you to use and still people didn't use it. Not sure how often they check that area because it needed mowed. It definitely is a quiet location. When we first walked in, we were floored by the wonderful smell of fresh flowers and homemade chocolate in our room. They went all out for us. We booked a package deal (picture perfect) which came with all kinds of things and three nights in the Governor's room. The room was fantastic with a huge, king size bed with soft sheets and a large, fluffy comfortable comforter. The room also comes with a fireplace that you can use for heat or just for the beautiful view, a flat-screen with a DVD player, two wing-back chairs, a writing desk, an armoire, and some of the most beautiful drapery I've ever seen. There is also a window air conditioning unit and fan to keep the warm nice and cool (although in September, we didn't need it). The BATHROOM. Holy crap. Half of the bathroom is overrun with your own private heart-shaped "love-tub" with homemade bath salts, soaps and a candle (with a lighter). We also had a coffee maker with Wolfgang Puck coffee, a mini-fridge, a microwave, extra towels and a deliciously creepy mirror above the hot-tub (so you can stare at yourself in all of your nudity) The room was perfect. Nuff' said. The owners, David and Judy were fantastic. They greeted us with open arms, had everything ready to go, talked everything over with us, gave us maps and brochures and then sent us on our merry way. They didn't linger, hover or bother us at all. They were very polite, kind and really were the cherry on top of this wonderful experience. They really pride themselves in their home and it shows. (Let me also state that I called within two days of our arrival and ordered a special surprise chocolate and root-beer gift basket for my husband and it was beautifully made and was STUFFED to the gills with chocolate. She even put some of the root-beer in the fridge to get cool for us!) The breakfast started at 9:00 each morning and it was prompt, delicious and we felt like royalty being served warm banana nut muffins and egg quiches on Presidential china. In front of our plates were little place-cards that said "you are dining with Abraham Lincoln this morning". It was super cool. There are so many cool things to see in this house, from the antique furniture, beautiful artwork, old coins, letters, receipts, skeleton keys, china, to the original door handles and stained-glass windows. This house is in great condition to have been built in 1905, but it still creaks. Grab a movie from the selection of DVD's, some local-made grape juice in a special Anniversary bottle or some candles from the gift shop and enjoy this place like we did. *There is no WIFI, but you won't need it. There is so much to see and do in this town and even in this house, you won't miss it. I had our entire itinerary planned and hotels reserved back in March, then decided to make a few changes after listening to a few new-to-me places from a friend who has been to Arkansas with her husband several times. Our 2 double beds room was $160.68. It's one of the nicest Best Westerns we had ever stayed at. That being said, it's not glitzy. Both beds were super stiff and uncomfortable. Of course my kids didn't complain because they are young. Lol. Dogs 30 lbs or less were welcome for a one-time $25 non-refundable fee per stay. My daughters and I loved their outdoor pool which closed at 10:30 PM. It was by far the cleanest pool we had used all year. Most of the staff members were all extremely friendly and used words like "sweetheart" and "darlin'." Just get over it if you usually don't appreciate niceties, manners, and that sort of thing. The breakfast had actual service - not the usual do-it-yourself set-up at most BWs. Kind of like cafeteria style, but they also brought plates out to customers. It just depended on the item. Huge fan for the price!

At this point, I'll take a place where I can park right outside my door over a fancy, overpriced hotel any day. Convenience wins when you're living out of a suitcase. This location checked that box well. Easy access, practical, and overall a solid stop for the night. That said... breakfast. I've noticed over time that Best Western's breakfast quality has slipped a bit, and this location didn't help change that impression. What really threw me off was that it wasn't self-serve. Instead, you're standing there while someone portions your food. Not ideal when all you want is a quick, easy start to the day. A little "wait, what?" moment. The tougher part was the service during breakfast. Both mornings, the servers felt cold and uninviting. No warmth, no friendliness, and definitely none of that Southern charm you kind of hope for when you're traveling through the region. Overall, it did the job, and I'd still choose this kind of setup for road trips. But a better breakfast experience, both in quality and attitude, would make a big difference.

The swimming pool is not as big as advertised, and the "open" fishing dock is closed unless you pay an extra fee. What is that??? Why even advertise it??? We go up to the front desk with our three kids, and ask if there is a room with an amazing view, he says, "I gotchu." Hands us a key to room 607 and ONE cookie. We have 3 kids....wtf are we going to do with one cookie?? I asked if the kids can get one each, he pointed at the empty tin can and said we sell them if you would like more. $18....I would've rather not have the one sir. So room 607 is on the 6th floor. Be prepared because the elevators are TINY. We could barely fit. Had to make 3 trips up and down with our luggage. Poorly built. Also, room 607 has a decent view, if you can look past all the construction that is in front. Ummmm, thanks?? I swear I thought we were being pranked. So swimming pool was packed. Oh, you want a towel? Must sign them out in the front desk, which took 17 minutes to be exact, then if you lose a towel, it's $20 per. And you have to write your DL number on a piece of paper for all the strangers to see. What a joke. Let's move onto breakfast, oh, there is none. Apparently they got rid of their buffet over a year ago and never changed their advertising. Also refused to comp us because we didn't go through their website, went through a 3rd party (booked through my credit card), so refused to accept my Hilton honors account. Why am I a Hilton Honors member if I don't even get to utilize any of my perks?? WHAT A SCAM!!! Marie McFee was the manager on duty and couldn't even talk to me in person. Had the hotel clerk (who was mortified) communicate all the things with me. Don't spend a dime at this scam hotel. Did I mention the whole 6th floor smelled like weed? Usually I don't care but not with my 3 children. At least have the courtesy to go on the damn balcony. Trashy hotels usually have trashy guests. $239/night for one of the worst hotel experiences we have ever encountered. And we've had bed bugs before....
