Faculty of high -level musicians are often treated unprofessionally and unfairly. After working there successfully and held in high regard by the president, I was let go soon as the cancer I have became difficult to camouflage. I was performing my duties without compromise. I was told "enrollment" was the reason. However other adjunct professors with less time there, were rehired. The president apparently was concerned that " I rest." It's difficult to rest without an income. I have been attempting to be rehired,to no avail. I went from 6 &1/2 years of vocal coaching, show production, jazz band direction, promises of long-term varied employment to 26 weeks of unemployment. That's no way to treat anyone but the school is/was run by a megalomaniac.

I'm impressed by this school , the campus and facility! The school has a long history, well established within the Long Island community, and a diverse curriculum. The school tour was educational and the guide was given by students; some are better presenters then others. Overall it was worth the visit.

I have unfortunately witnessed staff mocking disabled students, gossip, and lack of professional boundaries w/ students (i.e., romantic grooming). FSC is known to have MANY concerning staff members who have been found guilty of serious misconduct. They either get swept under the rug, or get shuffled to the next SUNY school. Most misconduct goes unreported because the staff members are all "friends." And if you are a student reporting such misconduct? Good luck. You will face hostility, blame, and retaliation.

I will be graduating with my BS in Community and Human Services in May 2014. This college is geared towards working adults, and utilizes a "guided - independent study" approach. IT IS NOT AN ONLINE SCHOOL, but does offer 100% online courses. The guided independent study approach is very flexible in that you work primarily at your own pace, submit your assignments and then meet with your instructors roughly once per month per class. As someone who has done the traditional "brick and mortar" style learning and online learning, for me the independent study proved to be the best avenue for me to learn. This school is exactly what you make of it , right down to designing your degree planner. Your assigned Mentor and instructors highlight the fact that each course is geared toward your personal interests, so it makes the course work interesting and enjoyable. I feel I have learned a lot with my education. The school and course work heavily emphasizes writing work as most of your assignments. If this scares you, it shouldn't because the school offers many avenues to help you critique your writing work as well as offers writing workshops. My mentor, faculty and staff are very pleasant to work with and are very accommodating, all while getting a high quality education. Because of my education at Empire, I have been accepted into Adelphi University's Masters of Social Work program and will be starting in the Fall of 2014! I would advise anyone who is self-motivated, well organized and interested in learning to attend this school! Hope this helps someone looking to attend!

The St. John's Oakdale campus is absolutely beautiful. Situated on Great South Bay, there are many…read morenature activities to partake in right on the campus. From treeology (the study of trees obviously!), to wading into the bay to catch fish, there's something for everyone. If you're more inclined to sit back and watch, the beach is beautiful, and there are great bridges for bird watching. The architecture on the property is also great. Huge mansions and such. I've never taken a class at the Oakdale campus, but my biology class took a field trip there and it was amazing. Just remember, if you're going from the city - traffic can be a ... your mom!

The campus is beautiful, clean and has a great feeling to it one that excites you to learn and grow as an individual. This is a large university with so many majors, clubs/greek life and it located on Long Island and just a train ride from New York City. Have been attending the Hauppauge Campus (with visits to Garden City when required) since 2014 when I completed my AAS degree at SCCC. The satellite campus offers up real personalized education. And after 5 years, it's like family. Downside= $$$. A hefty price per credit from this private university. Yes, there are scholarships to be had if you endeavor to submit application. Some caveats I've noticed to be eligible for scholarships is that 1) you must attend full time 2) be proactive in all things Adelphi or 3) bi-lingual. As a mom, 600 hour intern, FT employee & PT student... mama doesn't have the time to sift through what's available (my own doing, not the school) The smaller class sizes at Adelphi Hauppauge really give you personalized attention and that is priceless. Knowing your professors and administrators personally and having carte blanche capabilities to communicate with them whenever needed is truly a blessing. Walking away with a BSW & MSW in Social Work from such a prestigious, accredited university.... priceless.

Adding onto my post from earlier!!…read more Adelphi requires their students to take an unbelievable amount of pre requisites (2 arts, 2 global, 2 humanities, 2 communication) I was taking about 16-17 credits per semester on top of my required nursing pre-reqs. I have had about 50/50 of professors I loved and hated. If I had known this would be my experience at Adelphi I would have gone to Molloy!! Molloy also has an amazing nursing program and I believe is a bit cheaper than Adelphi in terms of tuition. Hofstra, NYIT and LIU Post are all nearby. Seniors in high school, please do your research on colleges you think of attending. I can't wait to graduate and never have to step foot into the school again or deal with the terrible staff.

Even though I'm not in that field anymore due to the physical nature of it, I felt that it was a very pleasant, inclusive class. Where my opinion of Suffolk sours dramatically is when I took an Electrical Assembly with an instructor David E. I am really new to soldering and I expected more professionalism. Instead, he complained that we students are giving him a headache. One time, I was taking a pen out and he came over and asked what I'm taking out of my bag. It was a pen. It was just very inappropriate. He would just make passive aggressive comments and it was very hard to work with him. I've never soldered before so of course I'm going to make mistakes. I need constructive feedback not sarcasm. Terrible instructor.
