Even before that my neice recommended them, and once I went to their site, everything I needed from pricing and extras were clear and upfront. Five Star was referred to me by my agent and she was right again - it was a great experience! I showed up at the property early and Shane was already there working. I hired 5 Star home inspections to inspect a house I bought in Cincinnati. I must have gotten my home inspection by the worst employee at 5 Star Inspections because he neglected to report so many severe and costly problems. Problems like mold in the attic due to shoddy construction; mold in the basement due to shoddy construction; an active leaking kitchen sink that had rotted the cabinet base; a garage door opener that didn't function properly; a finished basement that didn't meet safety requirements in building codes; and several other problems. When I complained, the owner said they only inspect for mechanical, structural, or safety issues. Everything they missed falls into one of those categories though. The owner offered a refund of the inspection cost if I signed a release form. What a joke of a company. The repairs are costing thousands of dollars. read more

Just had a home inspection done with Five Star and Brad was fantastic. He answered all my questions, pointed things out, and provided recommendations on fixing anything that might need to be fixed. Recommendations like plumber or electrician that could be contacted to fix. Or if I could go to hardware store and buy a piece to replace on an item, things like that. Gave me information around what if I do not fox something fixed now or can wait or would just be something to handle later as no hurry for it to be addressed at current time. He was very thorough and detailed. Brad took his time and I never felt like I was asking to many questions, so made me feel comfortable with asking for examples or what if scenarios. Brian met us at the house and had already been inside to prepare. He was very thorough, and took the time to explain everything he was seeing step by step. Sellers BEWARE if this is the company that is going to be doing the inspection on the home that you are selling. First off, they changed the time of the appointment (moving it up two hours) the morning of the inspection day. Then they proceeded to not come to the appointment early and they said the change in appointment was made to accommodate the termite inspector and he did not show up. They were rude when I inquired about details of the appointment times and they were poor communicators. These people did not leave the house in the same shape that they found it in. Left doors open that were closed, vent covers off, lights on that were off. Not a class act. After the inspection, the buyers came back with questions about the roof age and my paperwork was not matching up with the inspectors estimate. All and all, not very knowledgeable and not going to make up for their lack of experience with organization. Sellers beware if you have these clowns goofing around in your home for 4+ hours. When the gentleman came to pick-up the radon testing equipment, they continued to be rude. read more

These guys did a wonderful job on my house inspection for my potential new home. Shane was who I met on site (he was already on the roof when I got there and I was a few minutes early myself). They do recommend picking a day that you can be there so they can go over, in person, with you about the issues your new home has that they notice as being problematic not only right away but what to watch in the future . Our inspection lasted a number of hours but he was very thorough and took lots of a pictures that were then also sent to me in my report. They are resonibly priced and were able to get us in quickly as we wanted to close on the house as soon as possible. Thanks guys, I hope to be closing on my new home soon :) read more

I called a Pillar to Post four days ago and left a message that we needed an inspection and our friend, a realtor strongly recommended them and Five Star Home Inspections. I never heard from Pillar to Post, totally exasperating and so non professional. After not hearing from them I called Five Star the next day and a very polite lady answered the phone, took all our info and sent a very knowledgeable man named Brad the following day. He spent over three hours inspecting and keeping us informed during the inspection and emailed the results that evening. Terrible. Do not hire this service. They inspected our home in Covington. After we moved in we found that they failed to tell us that half the wiring in the house is old silk wrapped wiring. We have to spend 10s of thousands to rewire this house! He wasn't going to check the roof until I insisted. Shoddy service. Save your money and get yourself someone else. read more

Terrible, terrible, terrible. There was a light snow on the day of the inspection so the inspector did NO evaluation of the roof and still charged me full price. Half of the inspection report came from me as the inspector was oblivious. The handful of issues the house did have the inspector had NO insight as to cost of repair, what the exact issue at hand was, and whether a repair was necessary or not. For every issue, he said "Oh, well I'm not sure what's wrong with that, but you're correct it doesn't look right. I'll put it in the report. You'll have to get a specialist out here to tell you whether or not a repair is necessary." And of course, after the inspection I've tried reaching out to the inspector with a few questions pertaining to the report and he hasn't answered my emails for 10 days now. What a complete waste of $365. read more

When Randy anwers the phone, he is clearly in a bar, could barely hear him. When I pressed him on specific issues, his advice was that they are not in the business to give advice on how to repair things. Hum, well then how can they effectively identify the issues. This is the worst home inspection company. We have had to put out over 1000 in repairs. They missed a leaking stove of gas that also had a broken computer board. The garage door opener had to be replaced. Several holes in screens. Rusting storm door another one that leaks. We had to call for service on two ceiling fans and also the dishwasher. We called the owner and he was working with us and then made an offer. He sent the wrong release of claims with a different amount and wrong name. He never sent a new release and we now are contacting a lawyer. Beware of this group read more

We were recommended to use Five Star by our realtor and wish today that we had gone elsewhere or found our own. Since moving in to our home, we've discovered a plumbing issue and rotten windows. After paying Five Star nearly $500 for the inspection, we're now on the hook to shell out another $1,000 to address issues that should have been caught during the inspection by a so-called professional. When we asked them about how this could have been missed - we were blown off and told that sometimes things are overlooked. Isn't that the point of getting a "professional" to do an inspection? Highly disappointed in this company and would not recommend their services to anyone looking for an inspection. read more

Another terrible! After moving into our new home, the problems began. The inspector failed to report that all of the plumbing was completely rigged up. Both showers were leaking behind the wall and into the laundry room, the kitchen sink backed up, the pipe under the kitchen sink broke and water exploded everywhere and damaged the wood flooring. The air conditioning doesn't work at all. The furnace was leaking air and completely rigged up with inappropriate parts.This has all happened in 4 months. None of these things were noted in the inspector's report. What a waste of almost $400! Also the cost of all these repairs has been massive! I do not recommend this company! Booo, If these problems were disclosed in the report we could've negotiated to have them repaired or reconsidered our purchase. read more
