Anyway, after changing I was to put my belongings in a locker, but they were all missing keys, the girl was confused and told me to just put my stuff wherever, which was not a way to begin a relaxing day. Also, nobody I saw working up to that moment was wearing a mask, which just added to my anxiety. The massage therapist was first, and she was great (Sydney), and also wore a mask the whole time, she's the reason I gave 2 stars and not 1, I would see her again at a different location. Meanwhile, the person who did my facial could not bother to wear a mask and didn't even give me any feedback during my service. And the lady who did my pedicure didn't even want to talk to me and decided to chat with the next chair over instead. Oh, and after the massage I noticed they had brought keys for the lockers for new clients who came over but didn't say anything to me, so I took it upon myself to move my stuff to a locker with a key at that point. Management seemed nice and sent me home with a box of chocolates and a candle, but the services were not up to par, and the lack of masking was a complete turn off. He has been my stylist [I'm told "hairdresser" is a dated term] for more than 14 years. I recommend him any chance I get and one of my sorority sister's goes to Mason and has also brought him several clients! Yay! The only thing, from a client perspective is, it's a little more [but only slightly so] difficult to get an appointment - what I mean is, some occasions I'll have to wait a week longer than normal for my next appointment, likely due to the times of day I prefer. Back to Mason, not only is he an absolute genius at what he does, he is an incredible human being. Mason broke the bar of excellence in ensuring to be timely, ensuring *you* are his sole focus, including your comfort [beverages, food delivery from nearby sushi place, charging your cell phone, booking your next appointment via Vagaro, thoroughly explaining and selecting new products for you, etc.] He helped set a pair of hair shears I recently bought for me to use to trim my elderly Mom's hair myself at her memory care, and he even offered to do it himself on his off day [*who* does that?!?!] Mason is thoughtful, thorough, accessible, responsive, attentive, confident, skilled, calm, funny as all get out, a great conversationalist, helpful, and kind. Since my write-up of 2015, the owner was able to secure the adjacent space [Yay to the added space], and the clothing [t-shirts; dresses; jeans and sweaters] items are no longer for sale; however, they still offer accessories, candles, hair products, drinkware, jewelry, eyewear and additional retail products. I miss browsing the clothing while processing but that made space for additional stylists, a wonderful bonus for Fringe [and clients]. I was specific with what I wanted and didn't want; unsure I'd love the reference photos I took in because my hair has a wavier beach texture and a tighter curly texture the longer it gets, but we talked about it and I thought we were on the same page. I was wrong. I had gone in with mid back, cut straight across hair (very beautiful curls). Wanted some layers and softer U shape... left with.... A tragedy. I had been growing my hair out for 2-3 years at that point, trying to get its length and thickness back to where it was before a bad haircut and home dye job prior. Diana had cut my hair last at Shear and I remember leaving happy enough with it the first time, so I figured I'd give it another try. I wasn't looking for anything dramatically different anyways- I was in love with the length and thickness- just wanted some blunter cut layers and a little shape... nothing thinned or super short. In fact, I even make sure to mention how I wear my hair normally (with no heat, just product, brush, air dry), often in a bun, and with all hair tucked away seeing as I have a baby under the age of 1. she went for it. Between talks and the fear of being a picky client, i let her take off with confidence. Toward the ends of the dry cut, nothing felt too different... until we washed and dried. I stood up to go the wash bowl and SO much of my thick curly hair was left on the floor. I panicked, and tried to play it cool, keeping conversation, laughing, and talking myself into loving it the whole time it dried. I stood up to go and said I loved it, hoping I did... paid, left, and cried. I got home a few hours later, and wept. Seriously. I had spent so long trying to grow my hair out and loved it, but wanted to just add a little life and instead I left with a short layered shag. Ends extremely thin, curtain bangs-esq that were very uneven and almost inverted in their cut... and so much of my gorgeously thick hair was left a memory. The cut, plus two products I grabbed ended up costing me nearly $200. This was my first treat to myself post-partem and I was really heart broken. I called the salon to tell them how I felt, and they told me there really wasn't anything they could do. I knew that, but I was hopeful they'd try? They told me it wasn't like they could do much since it was shorter than wanted and overly layered, but if I had a suggestion to let them know... that was nice, but didn't change the fact that my curly pattern in the front where my bangs got chopped STILL hasn't returned to "normal" post curl-shock, or that my heart was so broken for all the time and care I had put into my hair the last few years. I wouldn't recommend going here unless you know exactly what you want, and don't care much about results. - as kind as possible.
