I am incredibly impressed with Village Park ... and the city of Kannapolis as a whole! My husband…read moreand I attended the opening show of their free summer concert series, and we were in awe of how well-maintained this park is, and how organized our entire experience was. We arrived around 5:30 PM to claim our seats on the lawn, and thankfully we were able to find a parking spot right near the pedestrian bridge across the street. The city posted a very detailed map of parking options on their Instagram page ... and the amazing thing is, not only is all of that parking free, but there is a free shuttle that will take folks back and forth to their spots if they are unable to walk that far (or even if they just don't want to!) The openers started at 7 PM, and then the main act started around 8:15 PM. This gave the crowd plenty of time to get situated in their spots, grab some snacks, hit the restrooms, or even ride the carousel! This was a family-friendly outdoor concert, and they did a great job of having food/drink/activities for both kids and adults to enjoy. A glass of wine or a can of beer was just $5 each ... which felt like a steal since I'm used to spending more than double that for the same pour at other concert venues. The show itself was awesome ... we saw The Fray and they were everything we wanted them to be and more. The sound and lighting were both great. The layout of the park allowed many folks to stay in their folding chairs for the majority of the show, and still be able to see what was going on on-stage. Five stars all around for Village Park and the city of Kannapolis ... more cities should take note of what a great job they are doing here to engage their community!

If they remember nothing else they will remember our cool walk thru the park! I tried my best to talk them into " let's ride on the train" but they was too adult, I was ready! I've been taking my kids to Clarks Creek since it opened. While this park does have some pluses…read morethere are minuses. The bathrooms are almost always nasty, they either don't have toilet paper or don't have paper towels to dry your hands. If it's the summer time and you're taking your kids for the splash pad, bring water shoes. The floors are disgusting. The trashes get overflown and the flies are everywhere. I don't know who thought it was a great idea to have metal slides with no shade but if it's a peak summer day, you're not gonna want your kids going down those slides, especially if they've got shorts on, their butts will get fried. Also, not sure whose idea it was to have the wooden rocking toy thing for kids because those did not last long. The handles broke after a year. When it comes to usable things for kids to play on at this park, the options are extremely limited. I would've loved to see something that kids could actually climb on and slide from that wasn't meant to be poor installation art. The main thing our kids do when we're there is swing on the only two swings climb up in the big web net thing and roll down the turf hill. The only well-kept areas in this park are the Pickleball courts and the dog park. There's definitely ample parking. There's a community garden that you can look at. If you come at the right time when the figs are ripe, you can pick them right off the tree so that's nice.

This summer was sponsored by Clarks Creek. I love playing pickleball here. Reserving the courts is…read morestill a little outdated, but patrons are friendly when there is confusion about bookings. There's a water park, dog area, and a short (?) walking trail around (I need to explore this more). They're good in my book!

I found a trail at this park on AllTrails and it looked nice so we decided to check it out…read more The beginning of the trail was really nice. It goes through a wooded area and down to the river. Then the trail suddenly becomes a disc golf course. Now the disc golf course seemed really nice, but I wouldn't recommend hiking a disc golf course. You're just in the way if people are playing. There's a nice lake later in the course. Overall, I'd recommend it for disc golf or maybe just to hang out at, but I wouldn't recommend walking through the disc golf course like AllTrails recommends.

On our park tour of the city we landed at Idlewild Road Park. This park is amazing. We only visited…read morethe playground area but loved it. The playground equipment is so cool. They have a bunch of really nice pieces I have never seen before. The playground is also huge. There is so many different areas to choose from. The only bad part is one piece of equipment isn't safe. My nephew decided to play incorrectly on the 4 person see saw piece and his foot got scraped up pretty bad. Make sure that your kids don't try to ride/sit/stand on the middle piece of the see saw. There were two groups grilling out at two different shelters close to the playground. They both surrounded the playground. The one thing that impressed me the most was how clean the restroom was. The restroom is super close to the playground too which is very convenient. This park is kinda far from me but I will definitely make the trip out here for the nibblings. There are so many things to climb, lots of sensory details, and this is just overall, a very interactive and unique playground to visit. Fun for moms and dads to join in on the fun too, with the challenging obstacle activities. Not a whole bunch of shaded areas on playground, and you can smell the dumpsters really strongly in the heat, as they are right at entrance of playground. They also have a covered basketball area, which is really nice!!!!! The splash pad is simple yet so fun for the kids!!!! And free!!!!!! Highly recommend! It's a beautifully maintained park! Concession stand and clean bathrooms as well:)

So it's a very interactive park with different dimensions and spaces and materials (textures). I saw kids from 1 to 11 there everyone was having fun. The park was full but not crowded and people were respectful. There is no shade at this playground in particular. Right next to it - maybe adjacent- there is a basketball court (shaded) then another space with cool climbing kids park and a very stylish and insta pic swing with a spacious grass area to relax. I recommend and am very happy that there is amolar ground like this in this area.
